What’s Up Wednesday #14

Hello and welcome back to What’s Up Wednesdays!

Always a pleasure to have you guys drop by, share your thoughts and comments.  This week I have a mouthful but I’ll try to keep it short and sweet because I still have some packing and organizing to do before my flight in the morning.

Let’s get into what I’ve been up to. 🙂

What I’m eating this week:

Today I actually skipped breakfast and as a result I ended up having KFC for lunch. It was finger licking good. 🙂 For dinner I had BBQ chicken with fries and macaroni salad.

What I’m reminiscing about:

The lovely stay I had at both the Salybia Nature Resort and Spa and the Radisson Hotel here in Trinidad.

What I’m loving:

I’m heading off to my final getaway tomorrow. Where you ask? Miami 🙂 a special treat just for me.

What I’ve been up to:

Cleaning, repacking and lots and lots of cleaning.  The tiling work at home is incomplete but I believe the guys will get it done.  I just want to see this project completed before the start of school next week.  I had no idea that redoing the floor would have been so messy.

What I’m dreading:

Honestly, coming back from my trip and the tiling is not completed. Deep, slow breaths.  I praying and trusting God that everything will work out.

What I’m working on:

I finished packing my suitcase so it’s just to get to bed and spend the last few hours I have left leaving some voice notes for the kids although I plan to call them.  I know my youngest son would love that. 🙂

What I’m excited about:

Getting this me time! I’m really excited because it is actually few and far in between when I get to have an outgoing or a trip just for me without the kids.    Can you believe that I miss them already and I have not even left yet?  🙁  I need this time away though so I’m sure I’ll get over it. 🙂

What I’m watching:

Nothing in particular. Mostly cartoons with the kids this week. Orphan Black probably has been watching me more than I have been watching it. Just too tired these nights.

Who/ What I’m listening to:

Ne-yo – So Sick

What I’m wearing/ Let’s Go Shopping:

Tonight I’m in sleep attire shorts and a spaghetti trap top cotton of course. It’s all about comfort.

What I’m doing this weekend:

I’m hoping to do a little shopping in Miami.

What I’m looking forward to the next month:

My birthday and it’s on September 4th! 🙂

What else is new?

The way I see my living space.  Since this tiling project I was forced to empty the space and wow I have a lot of wasted space just hidden by the clutter and junk I convince myself I needed. I look forward to redecorating it.  I’ve already repainted so I excited about that.

Well, it’s time for me to go to bed and get some much needed rest before my flight in the morning. Sorry in advance for my absence guys but this is one opportunity I can’t afford to pass up.  A special thank you to my amazing family for this early birthday gift. Love you all very much. 🙂

I will definitely provide details and pictures on my return.  Have a great week and a wonderful weekend.

See you guys next week.   🙂 As always thanks for stopping by.

Life

Life is filled with ups and downs.

It also has a few bad people who do terrible things.

Who sometimes make us feel to curl up in a little ball and hide.

However, even within all that chaos, madness, sadness and fear

Many of us are still blessed with beautiful, amazing and special people

Who remind us that this life is still worth living and sharing with the people we love and love us back.

When life gets tough, sometimes we have to push back rather than pull back.

Thanks for reading. Have a wonderful day. 🙂

Music Reflection Mondays #10

Welcome back to Music Reflection Mondays!   I hope you all had a good day and wonderful weekend.

Tonight, I want to to look at music through poetry. Hope you like it.

Music is the sound, rhythm and beat behind the words or musical notes that encourage you to move your feet

Music brings the notes and words to life

Inspiring you to forget your troubles and just enjoy your life

Music ignites within us that sense of joy, happiness and pleasure that just reading the same words alone may not muster

Music can help soothe our minds likewise it can motivate us to get up and shake our behinds 🙂

Music is that special gift from God

Given to us to help make life more enjoyable

Although we may sometimes take it for granted

The joy it can bring is almost everlasting

So as you listen to the beat and casually tap and move your feet

Remember, music is really a special treat!

Thanks for stopping by.  Have a wonderful night!

Review, Reflect and Reposition our thoughts

Saturday greetings to you all!  I hope this new day meets you all in good spirits.  After all it’s the beginning of the weekend short I know but sweet all the same. 🙂

Just wanted to drop in and leave a few reminders that I felt inspired to share with you guys today as we review, reflect and reposition our thoughts. 🙂

  1. It’s not always greener on the other side.  Sometimes our perception is often blinded and we often take for granted just how beautiful and brilliant our green really is.
  2. When things get tough that’s not your sign to cut and run but rather a test of your resourcefulness and determination to get the job done.  🙂
  3. People come and go in our lives over our lifetime.  Let us be to others what we want and expect them to be to us.  If you want and expect loyalty – give it! If you want support – give it! If you want positive people in your life try to be a positive person.
  4. Happiness is not just for a chosen few but rather the few who are willing to pursue it.

Have a wonderful weekend! Stay blessed and not stressed.

Thanks for stopping by. 🙂

Health and Wellness Fridays – Toxic People

Hello and welcome back to Health and Wellness Fridays! It feels so good to be back. 🙂

Today I’m going to be talking about the effect toxic people can have on our health and wellness.    Let’s first look at some traits of toxic people.

Here are 14 signs of a toxic person or relationship.

  1. They are constantly negative towards you and others.
  2. Verbal, physical and psychological abuse is the norm in the relationship.
  3. They encourage and support you in negative behaviour.
  4. They are non-supportive when you need them most.
  5. They are manipulative.
  6. They never apologize and if they do it’s not genuine as they repeat the same behaviour over and over.
  7. They constantly expect you to prove yourself to them.
  8. They are constantly trying to control you what you wear, who you speak to, where you go and more.
  9. They don’t take responsibility for their own feelings or actions and blame you constantly for the way things are.
  10. The focus is always on them and what they need and want never about your needs or feelings.
  11. They leave you drained emotionally and physically.
  12. They tend to want you to spend less and less time with the people who love and care about you such as your family and friends.
  13. Your interactions with them leave you feeling stressed, depressed and or irritated.
  14.  Happy moments are far and few because you are always arguing with each other.  Or rather you are always defending yourself.

I have experienced this and I can tell you that such an existence in this world is just that an existence because you’re not living and I for one was not happy.  Any happiness I did experience was short-lived because of the constant drama and arguing.

Many times we allow ourselves to stay in toxic relationships and underestimate the impact these negative interactions can have on our health and overall well-being.

Did you know?

Some researchers have even looked at the correlation between psychological and emotional stress, and its relationship to increased risk of illness and disease.

Here are some possible side effects of trying to live within a toxic relationship or among toxic people.

  1. Constant emotional turmoil – as you’re either stressed, angry, agitated or depressed.
  2. Emotional distress can trigger other symptoms such as loss of appetite or over eating resulting in rapid weight loss or weight gain.  It all depends on how you treat or cope with your stress.
  3. The frustrations of the interactions could trigger an increase in other habits such as drinking and smoking.
  4. Hair loss.
  5. Headaches or migraines.
  6. Trouble sleeping
  7. High blood pressure
  8. Anxiety
  9. Poor self-image

I’m sure the list can go on and on because the symptoms are different for everyone.  Some are mild and others can be more severe as others may have thoughts of suicide or even suffer a heart attack. Stress especially the  chronic type over time wears down not just the mind but the body and spirit.

What can someone do in such a situation?

I could say to you run like the wind and don’t look back but that’s what you’ve probably heard before and for some reason or another you’ve chosen to stay.

Why do we stay? For some, it’s love while for others it’s the fear and uncertainty of what life would be without that special someone, fear of starting over because they are unsure about themselves and their abilities.

When I stayed back then, I was blinded by my love for the other person so much that I did not allow myself to love me enough to get out of that damaging situation.  I was also fearful and uncertain of how  I would manage without him in my life but I did it!

It was different but each day got better and easier and I not only grew in self-confidence but my knowledge of myself, my true strengths and weaknesses. I could look into the mirror and finally see ME for the beautiful and amazing person that I am. 🙂

There’s nothing wrong with loving another human being just as long as we share and show that same love and more towards ourselves as well!

Toxic relationships both in the short-term and long-term can deplete us on every level imaginable, if we give them the power, space and freedom to.  Read the questions below and answer them honestly.

  • Ask yourself, is this situation worth your life?
  • Are you truly happy with the way things are?
  • Who are the two or more most supportive people in your life?
  • If you were looking at your life from the someone else’s shoes – what would be your advice be to them?
  • If this negative person does not change their behaviour towards you, are you willing to do something about it?

It’s your life, your health, your happiness and your decision.  Whatever you do, choose to love yourself enough to reposition yourself into a situation that is healthier and happier for YOU.

Thanks for stopping by. 🙂

Tough Decisions

Tough decisions are the ones we dread the most and often shy away from.

They are the ones that force us to step out of your comfort zone.

They are the ones that push us to dig deeper to find clarity and direction.

They sometimes entail sacrificing one thing for another but in the end they help us to develop and grow not only in experience and knowledge but wisdom.

Tough decisions although tough at times test our character, judgement, values and relationships not only with others but ourselves.

What tough decision have you been avoiding?

Take time to think it through – a decision has to be made either way or someone else would make it for you.

Thanks for stopping by. 🙂

What’s Up Wednesdays #13

Yes, it’s Wednesday. I’m sure some of you are thinking it took its time getting here while the rest of us are probably saying, “Wednesday already!” 🙂

What have you guys been up to?  All work, I hope not! Stressing out that is awful. Hopefully you’ve made time for yourself and loved ones trying to create a balance between work and your personal life.  Easier said than done for many but sometimes guys we just have to make that time because we don’t get it back.

I have been missing for the last four days and don’t tell me you didn’t notice. 🙂 I was on Part Two of my mini vacation with the family.  I’ll share a little more about that as we get into our What’s Up Wednesdays segment.

What I’m eating this week:

Today for lunch plan on getting a Presto Chicken Penne Pasta which consists of Herb Chicken Breast, Penne Pasta, Red & Yellow Peppers, Broccoli, Parmesan Cheese, Mushroom, Sun Dried Tomatoes, Basil and Herb Lime Vinaigrette. I’ll add a picture when I pick it up. 🙂

I love these and the food is so fresh and delicious!  It’s especially great when I’m pressed for time and I want something healthy and fulling to eat.

What I’m reminiscing about:

Our stay at the Radisson Hotel in Trinidad.  It was relaxing.  The room was cozy and the staff were all very friendly, pleasant and helpful.  I’ll give them 5 out of 5 for the level of customer service I received. We were always greeted with a smile.

What I’m loving:

Being back home.  Now don’t get me wrong, I loved my getaway and definitely need to do it more often but I also missed home a little.  You know the saying, “There’s no place like home.”

What I’ve been up to:

Feeding and entertaining the kids for the last four days.  We took the kids out a few times while at the Radisson but they preferred staying in and ordering room service.  No surprise there! 🙂  I did manage to take them for lunch at Trader Jack’s restaurant the pictures above are from there.

They definitely enjoyed their time away from home. I even got to sleep during the middle of the day  and in my household unless I’m sick that’s not happening. I got to catch up on much-needed rest.

What I’m dreading:

This week we started our third home improvement project – Tiling.  We have various sections of the house we want to have re-done because the work done some years ago was less than what we expected.

I thought moving the stuff out of the rooms was bad but now I’m dreading having to move the items back when they’re done. 🙁   The good to be gained out of this inconvenience is newly tiled floors and I get to use this as an opportunity to re-organize my space. 🙂

What I’m working on:

Actually, I was just going through my home improvement projects list to see how many of our goals we’ve accomplished.  We’ve achieved a lot in the short space of time we had.

We’re hoping to have this tiling exercise completed within the next 2-3 weeks.  Our painting of the house is on pause while these other projects get done.  No worries though, I know we’ll get it all done in time.

What I’m excited about:

Me time! 🙂 After entertaining the kids for the past month and a half I would be getting some me time as a treat from my family. A few days just for me to enjoy. 🙂 Just in time for my birthday too! I look forward to it and yes this one involves me getting on a plane. Yay!!!!

What I’m watching:

I found myself watching all sorts of Lifetime Movie Network movies during my stay at the hotel. If you know Lifetime you know how addictive it can be. 🙂  I look forward to watching out my Orphan Black Season 2 and starting Season 3 soon.

Who/ What I’m listening to:

That’s What I Like – by Bruno Mars

What I’m wearing/ Let’s Go Shopping:

Today, we’re going shopping for gym attire and I’ve been eyeing some outfits I’ve seen on television from Fabletics.com.  They have some amazing designs that promise comfort and make you look great. Here are some of my favourites although I wish I could get them all.  They make me want to go the gym.

a.             b.         c.

The best part of it is that they cater to different sizes ranging from XS to 3XL. They have a variety of styles, colours and patterns to suit your style and body type. They even pair up outfits for you be it for yoga, the gym, tennis, running whatever you’re into. I’ll be adding some of their outfits to my wish list. 🙂

What I’m doing this weekend:

My relaxation and fun must come to a pause for the time being because  I have some sorting and painting to do around the house so that will keep me busy this weekend.

What I’m looking forward to the next month:

By God’s grace, my birthday which is coming up in the next few days.  I’m looking forward to it. 🙂

What else is new?

Other than the tiles in my bedroom not much for the moment.  I’ll take some pictures when they’re done to share with you. 😉

That’s all for now. Thanks as always for making time to stop by.   Have a great day and a blessed week.
