To Inspire

To inspire is to give hope

For a better and brighter tomorrow

To inspire is to care

To inspire is to share

To inspire is to connect with someone on a deeper level

To revive and refresh

That neglected piece of themselves

Provoking thought, action and growth

To inspire is selfless

To inspire means you’ve not only gained wisdom

But understanding

And more importantly, you’re not afraid to use it

To inspire is to foster and encourage happiness

Within ourselves and our lives

Therefore to inspire is ME and YOU

Although inspiration can be found outside of us

It lies within us too!

Thanks for stopping by.  🙂

Music Reflection Mondays #9

Monday greetings to you all! I’m back from my four-day vacation within the lovely island I call home known as Trinidad and Tobago.

I am so grateful for the time away but it’s time to get back to the real world and my blog which I missed so much.  I’ve missed reading your blogs and sharing my thoughts. I hope all is well with each of you.

Tonight on Music Reflection Mondays I will touch on some of the wonderful music that we make here as well as highlight some of the wonderful talent that creates the music.

The beautiful twin island of Trinidad and Tobago is situated in the West Indies.  We are a diverse group of people filled with rich cultural and religious backgrounds.  Our annual Carnival celebrations is well-known and is truly a sight to behold.

We’re also known for our national instrument called the steel panThe melodious sounds you can hear especially at Carnival time when we have Panorama – an  annual steelband music competition.

Outside of Carnival, Trinidad and Tobago is also known for its music namely calypso music, soca music , chutney music and parang music (which is mostly heard around Christmas time.)

Here are some of our local celebrities for each of the categories I mentioned above.  Please note, that this post would be too long if I tried to list every single person.  This list therefore is by no way a complete representation of all the amazing talent both past and present that we as a nation have blessed with.

Some if not most of these individuals have made a name for themselves not only locally and regionally but internationally as well. For a more extensive listing on our local talent please click here.

Let’s begin. 🙂

  • Dr. Slinger Francisco aka “Mighty Sparrow” or “The Calypso King of the World”
  • Lord Kitchener aka “De Grandmaster”

Music feeds the soul and here in Trinidad and Tobago we love it.  Music is apart of who we are and how we enjoy spending our time.  Some more than others but in this country there is no escaping music be it in the form of soca, chutney, calypso, parang we grow up hearing it, living it and breathing it.

What wonderful things are your country known for?    Feel free to share below.

Hope you enjoyed learning a little more about where I’m from and some of the talented people I’ve grown up listening to. 🙂

Thanks for stopping by.  Have a great week.

What’s Up Wednesdays #12

Hello and welcome back to What’s Up Wednesdays! 🙂

How have you guys been?  What have you been up to?  I’ve been relaxing for the last 4 days and I’ll share more of that retreat with you today so let’s get into it.

What I’m eating this week:

I’ll be honest with you, this morning for breakfast I had a cup of tea with 2 slices of Hawaiian leftover pizza from Pizza Hut.  Yes, that’s right.  I said pizza for breakfast.

For lunch I had a burger from Burger King and for dinner tonight I had two Chinese Veggie Spring Rolls.  I know what you’re thinking, too much junk food and you are so right.  I promise to do better.

What I’m reminiscing about:

Some of the pleasant memories from my stay at the Salybia Nature Resort and Spa.

What I’m loving:

Gearing up for part 2 of the experience I’ve planned for the family.  Tomorrow we’re off again to another mini-vacation getaway on the island.  I’ll take pics and share with you upon my return next week.

What I’ve been up to:

Rest! Rest! Rest!

What I’m dreading:

The flu! 🙁  Yesterday, I was not feeling so well and this morning I woke up with flu symptoms – sneezing, stuffy nose, congestion and watery eyes just to name a few.  This is awful because I feel miserable and sick.  It might even be allergies either way terrible timing. Thankfully, I have been medicating and trying to rest.  I’m hoping and praying for a speedy recovery.

What I’m working on:

Not a damn thing! I’m honestly trying to just enjoy my vacation time with the kids while I can before the other home improvement project starts next week.

What I’m excited about:

Seeing the projects we’ve set out to do get completed one at a time. It is such a good feeling to finally see these things get done.  They were long overdue. No more procrastination or delay.

What I’m watching:

I’m pleased to report that I have started Season 2 of Orphan Black and I’ve completed episodes 1 to 5. I can’t wait to see the rest. I’m hoping to finish the rest of season 2 before I leave tomorrow.  Wishful thinking. 😉

Who/ What I’m listening to:

Shape of You – by Ed Sheeran

What I’m wearing/ Let’s Go Shopping:

Check out some of the accessories I stumbled upon at Aliexpress.com.  They have a wide variety for both men and women even some unisex pieces.

What I’m doing this weekend:

Enjoying relaxation time while creating fun memories with loved ones. 🙂

What I’m looking forward to the next month:

My birthday! 🙂

What else is new?

My car.  It was time for an upgrade.  I have not forsaken the old for the new.  I plan on having some restoration work done on the Corolla or maybe sell for the right price. We’ll see how it goes.

Sorry guys but there will be no Health and Wellness post this Friday. Family time.  I will definitely post next week Friday. That’s all for now.

Stay blessed and not stressed.

Thanks for stopping by and your continued support. 🙂 Have a great night.

The Games We Play

The games we play

When we don’t know what to say

Other than the truth because

We often let our fears get in the way

The games we play

When we know how we feel

But let the complexities of life

Build and foster within us unnecessary strife

The games we play

As we pretend to others and within ourselves

That what is going on around us has no affect

When the truth is, it is making our hearts bleed

The games we play

When we let our selfishness get in the way

We don’t take the emotions of others into play

Causing fractures in our relationships

That sometimes lead to the sinking of the ship

Should you decide to play games

With the emotions of others

Don’t say I didn’t warn you

So be true to yourself and don’t do to others

What you don’t want done unto you.

Thanks for stopping by. Make today a great one!

Liebster Award #3

I would like to thank the Yellowfuzzyduck for nominating me for the Liebster Award.  She blogs over at the Turtledesk and she is amazing.  At her blog you would find beautiful graphic designs, photography, poetry and other thoughts that she feels inspired to share with her readers.

She even designed the logo for my website which I love very much. 🙂  Be sure to go over and see for yourself how amazing and talented she is.

  2. Nominate 11 other bloggers
  3. Ask your nominees 11 questions
  4. Let them know that you have nominated them

Yellowfuzzyduck’s Questions

  1. Where do you see your blog in 5 years?  This is a tough one because we don’t know what the future the holds but I do know I would like to still be blogging. In 5 years, I would like to see my blog grow in numbers beyond my wildest dreams full of readers who truly enjoy and appreciate what I have to say. 🙂
  2. What was the most challenging post (in terms of editing pictures, writing/explaining) you’ve done so far?  The most challenging post I’ve done was my “Dear Dad Letter” because it was very dear to my heart.
  3. What is your favorite movie? I don’t really have a favourite movie because there are so many shows that I love watching but there are very few that enjoy watching over and over again. I would go with Disney’s – Frozen and Moana. 🙂 I love the Disney movies.
  4. How do you find ideas for posts? My ideas come from both inside and outside of me.  Sometimes I recall a moment in time, sometimes I write based on a feeling or a word that comes to mind. Inspiration is all around us we just have to tap into it.  🙂
  5. What is your favorite post that you’ve written?  My favourite post, this is another difficult one because they are all special to me but the post “What motherhood means to me” holds an extra special place in my heart.
  6. What is a pet peeve of yours? When people chew loudly and have their mouths open.
  7. What is your favorite quote? I have a few favourites but this one from Mahatma Gandhi comes to me “Be the change that you wish to see in the world.”
  8. What are the characteristics of a good blog post, in your opinion?  A good blog post would not only capture the reader from the title but would hold their attention and leave them with more than they came with. Hopefully, I do this from time to time. 🙂
  9. What have you learned from blogging? We all have our own style and way of doing things and that is what makes this community great.
  10. When not blogging, what do you do for fun? Fun, I believe is best had when shared with the ones you love and who love you.  Watch movies, go to the beach, go to the arcade, sit at home playing board games or just creating our own entertainment.  Fun can be had anywhere once all present have the right attitude. 🙂

Music Reflection Mondays #8

Monday night greetings to you all! 🙂 I came back from my 3 nights getaway late yesterday afternoon.  We stayed at the Salybia Nature Resort & Spa which is on the island situated in Salybia Village.

It was the first time for most of my family. They had a great time.  My sister and I got some much-needed rest.  We took the all-inclusive package so all we had to do was show up. 🙂  I feel rested and revived. It’s good to take time out from it all and just relax.  I’ll  share some pictures from that getaway in a later post so look out for that.

Tonight, on Music Reflection Mondays I’m going to be sharing with you some Latin artistes who through their music have seduced us with the rhythm and beat of their music.   Here are a few of my favourites below.

  • Gipsy Kings
  • Carlos Santana
  • Enrique Iglesias – Bailando featuring Descemer Bueno & Gente de Zona
  • Los Del Rio – La Macarena
  • Christina Aguilera
  • Pitball
  • Selena
  • Ricky Martin
  • Gloria Estefan
  • Shakira
  • Jennifer Lopez

I know that I have barely scratched the surface because there are so many amazing artistes out there.  Who are your favourites? Who would you like to add to my list?

I would love to know.  Thanks for stopping by. 🙂

Blogger Recognition Award #2

A special thank you to the lovely Nel over at Reactionary Tales for nominating me for this award.

If you are not already familiar with Nel’s blog, you’re missing out because she blogs about experiences, shares photos, talks about books and she even has a weekly segment about endangered animals that I enjoy reading. So don’t be a stranger check her out.  🙂

The Rules

  • Thank the blogger who nominated you and provide a link to their blog.
  • Give a brief story of how your blog started.
  • Give two pieces of advice to new bloggers.
  • Select 10 other bloggers you want to give this award to.
  • Comment on each blog and let them know you have nominated them and provide the link to the post you created.

“Living vs Existing”– How it all began

I was actually driven to write a book about called “How to Find Your Gift”. When I completed my first draft I shared it with my sister who was so moved by it that she encouraged me to write more and share my insight and experiences with others.

I was uncertain at first if a blog was the way to go but I wanted to at least give it a try and I’m glad I did.  🙂 The creation of Living vs Existing helped me not only reach others but also helped me find more and more of myself.   I will always be grateful to Candice for always believing in me.

My advice to new bloggers

  1. Believe in yourself and your abilities.  The fact that you’ve even taken the step to create a blog says that you have something to say and share. Give it your best!
  2. Don’t be afraid to try something new.  At the early stages of blogging most of us are trying to find our fit in this big blogging community.  We may start off in one direction and find ourselves feeling drawn to another and that’s okay.   Visit other blogs, see what you like or feel drawn to, pay attention to how that makes you feel and try to develop your own unique style. You won’t know how good or great you can be if you don’t try.

My nominees are:

  1. Life, more than existence
  2. Growing Self
  3. Old House in the Shires
  4. Avid Observer
  5. Mainepaperpusher
  6. eternalsoul25
  7. In A Messy World
  8. Ajay Vyas
  9. A Learning Poet
  10. Turtledesk

To each of my nominees thank you for doing what you do.  There are so many amazing bloggers out there that it is almost impossible to list everyone.  Some I know, some I’m yet to discover, some don’t even know they are great. I look forward to reading your blogs.  Keep writing with purpose and passion.

Thanks for stopping by.  Thanks again Nel for the opportunity to share this award with others.

Make today a great one!
