Shine Bright

Shine bright no matter what they say

Because to be happy, there’s no other way

Fireflies do it from within

The moon and the stars even bring the light in

……………………………………………………………………………….

Shine bright even when no one is watching

Because once you believe in YOU

It does not matter what they do

The light within will always shine through

…………………………………………………………………………………

Shine bright even when things around you are not going right

In times such as these you have to shine your brightest light

Challenges will come but don’t let them get you down

You have what it takes to overcome

Feed the light within you and it will come

………………………………………………………………………………………

Shine bright with your smile

Shine bright with your thoughts

Shine bright with your actions

Choose to shine especially when you don’t feel like

Because that is when your mind, body and spirit really need it

Make today a great one! Thanks for stopping by.  🙂

Happy Emancipation Day!

In Trinidad and Tobago, we celebrate Emancipation Day on August 1st and it is a public holiday.

Did you know?

On August 1, 1985, Trinidad and Tobago became the first country in the world to declare a national holiday to commemorate the abolition of slavery.

When I think of Emancipation I think of how blessed we are as a people.  Think about it, the experiences and opportunities we now enjoy that we sometimes take for granted because we don’t know any other way than how things are presently.  Some things I often overlooked included:

  • Freedom to acquire an education
  • Freedom to choose my own career path
  • Freedom to live where I want (financial limitations aside)
  • Overall, freedom to live my life, my way
  • The only human being I needed to be accountable to was my parents

Too often, we have to lose what we have before we can appreciate what we had.

Let Emancipation Day be a day to celebrate

How far we’ve come

Never forgetting the chosen few

Who stood up and did what many were afraid to do

Creating greater possibilities for ME  and for YOU

……………………………………………………………………………………..

Let Emancipation Day remind us to always be grateful for what we have

May we always be appreciative of things both big and small

And not let our perspectives on life, keep us locked up in mental strife

Bob Marley, said it best in Redemption Song

……………………………………………………………………………………….

Let Emancipation Day remind us of the need to participate

Life is too short and neither of us know the date

So let’s not allow fear to keep us stuck or hold us back

May we never forget but instead respect

and always appreciate what has been done for us

A special thank you to those special people who cleared the way

So we could live better lives today.

Thanks for stopping by.  Hope you had a great day.

On another special note: My dad also celebrates his birthday on this very special day.  Happy Birthday again daddy! 🙂 May you live to see and enjoy many, many more.

Where is your focus?

Focus.

Focus is a powerful word.  If channeled inwardly in a positive way we can do amazing things and can become the amazing people we were meant to be.

If re-directed toward others especially in a negative way – it can consume you.  Likewise, if you take that energy and direct it internally in a negative way by being highly critical and negative about yourself it can consume you as well.

Focus requires time, energy, effort, dedication and determination.

Use that mental power and asset to your advantage.  Use it to strengthen your core values or create new ones (if needed).  Don’t believe or give ear to the negative stuff people say.

  • You have the power to make things right!
  • You have what it takes to improve your situation!
  • The only story that is going to keep you back is NOT what people say about you but what you believe about YOURSELF!

I don’t have a crystal ball and no I don’t know what the future holds.  However, what I do know is what I want and don’t want for myself.  If you can say the same thing – then all you need to do is STAY FOCUSED and go after what you want.

Believe in yourself. We CAN do anything if we just put our minds to it.

Music Reflection Mondays #6

Welcome back to Music Reflection Mondays! I had a really hectic day so music is definitely going to be my choice tonight to unwind and relax.  Hope your day was not as intense as mine. 🙂

As you all know, music is my go to for relaxation and just improving my overall mood. I wrote this little piece about how music makes me feel. Hope you like it.

Music is like a glass of wine at the end of a long day

If you listen closely your body might start to sway

However, not all music is designed to make you feel this way

Some are great at soothing the soul, others make you want to lose control

Creating some memories you don’t ever want re-told

The lyrics, the music, all make you connect

Sometimes to beautiful memories you don’t ever want to forget

So although some music is good for relaxation

There are some that are good to help with frustration

Whatever you’re going through there is a song out there for you

So if you ever feel sad and blue

Get a good song you could relate to

Because someone out there has probably been your shoe

Let the music lift you up

And as Michael Jackson said, “Don’t Stop Til You get enough” 🙂

Thanks for stopping by. Have a wonderful week.
