The Truth about Stubbornness

Hear Nothing, See Nothing, Do Not Speak

Stubbornness is an unwillingness to change one’s attitude or position on something, even when the alternative is better.

Is there an upside to stubbornness? Not really but then again it depends on who you ask and where you fall in the equation.  Let’s take a look.

UPSIDE  to STUBBORNNESS:

  1. You get to stay exactly as you ARE  because you already KNOW the answers to everything.
  2. You automatically ‘win’ every disagreement because no one with a true understanding of the situation would expel much energy or effort trying to convince you otherwise.
  3. You don’t have to accept change.  Your way is the best way and there is nobody out there that can tell you different.

DOWNSIDE to STUBBORNNESS:

  1. Limits your growth not only in knowledge but also experiences.
  2. Makes accepting and implementing change difficult because you’re so stuck in your own ways.
  3. People tend to avoid any meaningful exchanges with you because they don’t want to end up in an argument.
  4. Blocks and limits understanding because of your unwillingness to show  understanding towards others.
  5. Hinders progress not only for yourself but others especially if you are in a position of power.
  6. It is a selfish way of interacting with the world around you.

There will always be someone out there with a different perspective, new ideas and concepts that challenge or may even improve our current way of doings things.   We don’t have to like or agree with everything that is shared with us but we should at least respect the fact that a contribution is being made and do the right thing and that is – to genuinely hear them out.

Open-mindedness should not be what we expect of others when it comes to our beliefs and opinions especially when we ourselves may be closed-minded to what others have to say.

Stubbornness that blocks and disregards the opinions, thoughts and feelings of others is a building block to nowhere.

Jealousy

sculpture-1430110_1920

Jealousy clouds the mind and tightens the heart.

It causes us to miss moments to be genuinely happy for someone else because we’re too busy pondering why them and not us.

It fosters bitterness and stifles gratitude promoting forgetfulness – since we often forget all the good things (big and small) we have going on in our lives.

Jealousy blinds us from seeing our own strengths and possibilities.  If anything it highlights our insecurities.

It’s okay to celebrate someone else’s success while we work towards achieving our own.

We should not allow jealousy to keep us from achieving our true potential or destiny. Let it go because it would only hinder our growth in various aspects of our lives.

Thanks for stopping by.

What’s Your Story?

We all have a story.

chalkboard-620316__340

Some stories are long while others are short.

Some stories are filled with trials and tribulations. Others with a few obstacles here and there.

Some stories leave us feeling broken, lost, ashamed, unworthy and stuck.

Some stories even push us to be better, help us grow stronger, encourage us to overcome, to persevere and conquer every obstacle that comes.  Never accepting defeat we look for ways to overcome and find victory.

Our stories are a part of us but they are NOT who we are.  We ARE who we want to be NOT what happened to us.

Some stories try to steal and deny us of our destiny, joy and happiness while others PUSH us closer to our destiny.  We just need to REACH OUT and CLAIM IT.

Stories are written every day and how you want your story to end is ultimately up to YOU.  Are you going to sit by and be a bystander in your own life?   Don’t be a prisoner in your own story, write the ending you deserve.

It’s time to BREAK the cycle and START anew.

All you need to do is BELIEVE and WANT it bad enough.  Of course, based on our stories there would be some healing needed and even learning new patterns as we put aside the old thoughts and behaviours.

In the end, what really matters is WHERE you want to be and HOW much effort are you willing to put into getting there. 🙂  A happy ending is still possible no matter what your story is.

Thank you for stopping by.  Have a great day!

Music Reflection Mondays #16 – Preferences

Welcome back to Music Reflection Mondays!

clef-954952__340

Music does different things for different people. Some use it to relax or de-stress, others to get their groove on (at the club or while working out at the gym) the uses vary from person to person.  However, this does not take away from the fact that music helps us get through life sometimes even distracting us from our problems even if only for a moment. For some of us that is good enough. 🙂

Does the fact that your individual preferences for music if different from mine mean that your selections or preferences are better than mine or vice versa?  I think not!  Once I like what I listen to and you feel the same about what you like that’s all that matters.   Sometimes you might hear a song that others might be all hyped about and wonder to yourself, “What’s the big deal about this song?”  Keep in mind that someone else might be listening to your preference and ask the same question.

Our preferences make us the individuals that we are.  There may be songs or genre of music that we share and enjoy likewise there may be some that we don’t share or enjoy – and you know what, that’s okay.   I do not believe that we were placed on this earth to like all the same things and do all the same things – differences create variety and that helps to keep things interesting.  🙂

Don’t make assumptions about people because of how they look.  Their musical preferences may surprise you so don’t stereotype.  Listen to what you like and what moves you but don’t be afraid to try something new from time to time.  You may not like everything and you don’t have to.   Don’t limit yourself to only what you know – allow your musical database to grow.

There is so much to learn and explore in the world of music from the different genre of music to new artiste and so much more.  Keep an open mind and ear.  In life there comes a time when you learn that in order to be truly happy you need to just do what you love. Music is no different. 🙂

Have a good night and a blessed week.  Thank you for stopping by.

Hide and Seek

people-2577986__340

This is a story about a forbidden relationship between two people called Denial and Truth who only played Hide and Seek.

Denial’s parents told him that he and Truth could NEVER be together because she would only hurt him so he should always avoid her.  Denial did not listen to his parents and would in his own little way interact with Truth through playing Hide and Seek.

Truth liked Denial very much but could never get close to him.  Hide and Seek was all she had and this made her little heart sad.  No matter how hard she tried Denial always managed to slip away.

Until one day, Truth finally caught up with Denial.  For the first time he was cornered and trapped.   His emotions started swelling up on the inside now his true feelings he could no longer hide.   Truth looked Denial in his eyes and said, ” You can avoid me all you want. You could even try to wish me away but I have news for you, I’m here to stay.  You constantly push me aside because your emotions you want to hide.  Can’t you see my love, you’re creating even more turmoil inside?”

Denial unable to control his emotions anymore starts weeping uncontrollably on the floor.  Truth sits down beside him attempting to console him.  She understands his heart is thin but this is a battle even he can’t win.  She then whispers in his ear, “I understand this hurts but avoiding me will only make the pain worse. Let’s face these things together because that is the only way you’ll feel better.”

Over time these two stopped playing Hide and Seek and decided to meet up once a week.

Denial finally understood that although he could avoid Truth he could not remove her from his life. He soon realised that facing her actually made him feel better.  He eventually built up enough courage to take her home to meet his parents. 🙂

You can just imagine his parents surprise to see their son Denial and Truth standing side by side.  It took them some getting used to but over time they learnt to accept and eventually love her too.

Remember, we may not always like the truth about something,  someone or ourselves but avoiding it does not make it go away.  I’ve learnt the only way to truly move forward is to face and accept the truth and chart a way forward.

Denial is only a short-term answer or response to our problems.  The time will come when we have to face what we’ve been hiding or running from.  It won’t be easy but the end result should you choose to embrace and see the process through is  greater clarity, your emotional burden will be lifted or lighter and the healing can finally begin – resulting in a much happier you.

Thank you for stopping by. Have a great day! 🙂

Health and Wellness Fridays – Inspiration and Drive

Health and Wellness Greetings to each of you!

motivation-1389123__340

Today I felt inspired to write about some of the things that typically inspire and drive some of us to take a different approach to our health and overall well-being.

  1. A visit to the doctor.  You go to the doctor for one thing and you end up with more feedback than you were expecting.  Sometimes he or she would have to recommend that we change or cut out some of our everyday habits.  We would probably even have to make changes to our diet and even increase or start taking exercising more seriously based on the findings.
  2. Looking in the mirror.  This one does not always inspire everyone.  For some a glimpse into the mirror is all they need to run and join a gym.  For others it just a reminder of the areas we should be working on.  I for one know the areas I need to pay closer attention to but I don’t let the mirror get me down.  Focus on the good, enhance your assets 🙂 and try to improve what you can.  Don’t spend anytime beating up yourself about where you’re at.  Focus on where you would like to be and make an effort to get there. 🙂
  3. Constant feedback from those around you.  Some people mean well but they often neglect the fact that their good intentions can have a negative impact on the same people they are trying to help.  We allinternalize criticism differently.  Some use it as a driving force to excel in life while others absorb it and let it eat away at their very core.  When the latter happens, this not only hinders growth it creates depression and can even make things worse.
  4. You reach your ‘enough is enough’ moment. This is the point in your life when you’re tired of the excuses and you just take control of your life. You pay attention to what you eat, you make an effort to get active and just choose to no longer be a bystander in your own life.
  5. Fear of death.  Many of us want to live for as long as we can so we try to educate ourselves on the Dos and Don’ts and try to implement healthier lifestyle choices all in effort to preserve and hopefully extend our lives. The reality is, we all will die eventually and we have no say in how we go ultimately but we can reduce our risks for the things within our control.
  6. Family and loved ones.   Sometimes just the thought of  dying and leaving our loved ones is enough to motivate us to take better care of ourselves and them. Eating habits are learnt and taught whether we believe that or not.  Our families eat what we provide so we ultimately set the tone for their lives.  We owe it to them and ourselves to make better choices.

In the end, for each of us there may be multiple reasons why we do what we do and a few why we don’t.    These health and wellness posts are for people like me who sometimes need the reminder or gentle push to do more for ourselves.  No matter what ultimately drives and inspires us to live better – the number one reason should be because we are WORTH IT!

Do I have all of the answers to health and wellness? NO but I do understand how challenging it can be when you have gained the weight and you’re trying to get if off and keep it off.  The battle between what taste best and what is BEST for us is real.  For some this comes easy and others like myself, we just have to take it one day and even one meal at a time.

Happy Friday to you all. Make today a great one and have a wonderful weekend!

Thanks for stopping by.

What’s Up Wednesdays #19 – Finale

Welcome back dear friends to What’s Up Wednesdays! I trust that your week is going well and if not that it is at least getting better.

Today, I have decided to make this post my last What’s Up Wednesdays post.  Writing this post every week been a great experience for me to learn and grow as well as for me to share some of my life with each of you.

I first discovered the What’s Up Wednesdays concept on Pink For Days  and thought it would be a great opportunity for me to step out of my comfort zone and I’m glad I did.   It could be a bit demanding to prepare but once completed I enjoy reviewing it.

A special thank you to those of you who read and comment. Your support and feedback was appreciated. So without further ado, let’s get into it. 🙂

Wedn

What I’m eating this week:

pizza-329523__340

Today for lunch I had pizza – Pizza Hut!

What I’m reminiscing about:

sea-1993791__340

Nothing really!  I try not to spend too much time focusing on what was because I might miss what is. The memories that were great would always be with me and the not so good ones would be archived. 🙂

What I’m loving:

people-2567915__340

The supporting and encouraging nature of this community.  I have seen the love and support that this special group of individuals possess and I’m very grateful and humble to be a part of it.

What I’ve been up to:

office-620823__340

Work, home, work, home…  This week has been very draining but thankfully I have some songs that help me relax and just forget all about my troubles.

What I’m dreading:

thinking-272677__340

That the current project we have going on at home would not be completed to our liking. The contractor’s measurements were off and then he didn’t properly assess the area so we had some additional costs.  He is good at what he does so I’m trusting in the Lord that everything will work out and we would be pleased with the end result.

What I’m working on:

pasta-2805186__340

At the moment getting a mouthful of this chicken pasta into my mouth while I prepare this post.  🙂 Please note that this picture was taken from Pixabay because I’m already more than half-way through my dinner.  🙂

What I’m excited about:

building-1080592__340

I’m excited and anxious to see all of the small improvements around the house completed.  We finally started painting last weekend even though the sun graced us with her presence only for a short time.  The small area we did manage to complete looks so good.  The new colour is fresh and vibrant.  We love it!  I can’t wait to see the rest of house transformed. 🙂

What I’m watching:

Shadow Hunters was good so good that I’m yet to resume my Orphan Black series.  My sister continued the Orphan Black series though and told me that so much has happened that I have a lot of catching up to do. I may get back into it this weekend or I might just start something new it all depends on the mood I’m in. What good series have you been watching lately?

What I’m listening to:

equalizer-153212__340

My sister would definitely scream out Despacito and New Rules.  These songs along with a few others I listed on Music Reflection Mondays #15  just keep playing in my head.

What I’m wearing:

My black cotton oversized T-shirt that says “Coffee Now”.  Comfort is the order of the day. 🙂

What I’m doing this weekend:

watercolour-2045917__340

Hopefully, painting the house once the weather is good.

What I’m looking forward to the next month:

flora-142742__340

New posts, new opportunities and new blogs to follow.  Let’s not forget my November Extravaganza.  I’ll keep you posted.  🙂

What else is new:

relaxing-1979674__340

The comfort I get from knowing that everything I can control – is being controlled or managed.  It is so much easier than worrying or fussing about everything else.

That’s all for I have for you tonight.   Who knows what new segment I may come up with to replace this one.  You can definitely trust that I would keep you in the know.

Thanks for stopping by.  Have a great night and a wonderful week.
