Farewell and Thank You 2017

design-2711676__340

Today is the 31st of December, officially the last day of 2017 and I just wanted to give thanks for the ALL that I endured, learned and achieved over the last few months.

2017 without a doubt had its challenging moments for the majority of the year right up to June to be exact.  However, I refused to lose faith and hope and believed with all my being that things just had to get better.

Giving up was just not an option I could afford. My efforts to improve my situation just seemed to never be enough so I turned to God.  I got to a point where I believed only a miracle could resolve all of my problems.  I prayed and prayed and declared over my life that this year was going to be the beginning of a new chapter, a better and brighter chapter of my life and ALL that was holding me back would be no more.

And you know what, God delivered me and my family from the constraints, obstacles and limitations that seemed to plague us for years.  He gave us a clean and fresh slate. No we didn’t win the lottery but honestly I prayed that we would but God had different  plans for us.  I’m just as satisfied with the alternative.

2017 has given me so much to be grateful for.

  1. I started my very own blog on January 31st 2017 titled livingvsexisting.com.  This has given me much joy and greater purpose in my life.
  2. God created a way out of financial debt when I could not see any.   With God nothing is impossible.  No problem is too big or too small for Him. Trust me. 🙂
  3. God through his grace has blessed my family with a new vehicle.
  4. God brought me to this blogging community and gifted me with the pleasure of meeting and learning from some very amazing, talented and special people who I would probably not have met if I had not taken that step on January 31st 2017 to join.
  5. God has blessed my family with so much this year after years and years of obstacles, challenges and limitations that at some points I thought he had forgotten about us.  I realize now that he needed us to endure and work through the pain and not lose faith and hope.  He was testing our commitment to the process and ultimately to Him.
  6. The strength and power that comes from having a strong support system encouraging and cheering for your success.  My family has definitely been that force in my life and for them I am forever grateful.
  7. God’s protection throughout the year not only over myself but each and every member of my family and our dwellings.  His precious blood, favour and mercy has kept the enemy at bay and we are truly grateful for this.
  8. The woman who I am becoming. 🙂
  9. My writing skills and material has improved and grown so much in this time.
  10. The wisdom and knowledge that I have acquired that has helped to not only improve my life but the lives of those who read my posts.
  11. The support and encouragement I have received from this blogging community as well as other supporters of my blog.  I am genuinely thankful for each of you. May God continue to bless you all.
  12. Seeing God’s favour at work in my life.

You see my friends no matter how challenging 2017 was I’ve learnt that we have to trust in the bigger picture.  The challenging moments are meant to prepare us for what is to come.  You need to persevere!  Sometimes in order to do that we need to look past the difficulty and look towards a brighter and better future. Don’t see yourself as stuck but rather as passing through.

As we leave 2017 behind let us leave the negative experiences behind choosing to take with us the lessons learnt along the way and the happy moments we’ve had.

May 2018 be everything God wants for you and more. God has not forgotten about you.  Trust in Him and He WILL see you through.

Have a wonderful day. Happy New Year in advance from my family to yours.

Accepting and Understanding Control

Many times we let ourselves get upset over the decisions and choices that those we love and care for make that we don’t support.

Many times like broken records we try to tell others why the path they’re on is wrong and why our way would be better.

Many times we see what’s wrong in the lives of others and pay little attention to what we need to fix in our own lives.

Many times we don’t realize or rather refuse to accept that some of us just have to learn some lessons in our own time because if we skip the steps we stand the risk of repeating the same mistakes.

Many times we are angry and upset but don’t admit to ourselves the real cause or root of what we feel and why.

Many times there are periods in our lives when even though we are surrounded by people we may feel alone.

Many times we often hide our true feelings out of fear, pride or uncertainty.

The thing is, there will be many instances when there are things and people we don’t understand, agree with or even like.

We have to sometimes accept that is how they are – at least, at this current moment in their lives.  We can’t fix nor is it our job to everyone or everything. It is only through understanding and learning to recognize that we can’t and will never control everything around us will we be able to better handle such situations.

Our strength and power comes from understanding that the only control we need to have is over ourselves, our thoughts, our emotions, our words and our actions. When we don’t practice control over our mind, body and spirit we leave ourselves open to whatever and whomever wants to manipulate and control our lives.

Make a conscious decision today to use the power within you wisely! 🙂

May the New Year bring you joy, happiness, love and a way forward to a better, brighter and stronger YOU.

Thank you for stopping by.  Have a wonderful weekend. 🙂

Health and Wellness Fridays – Create a Happier and Healthier US

Welcome back to Health and Wellness Fridays!  Today I’m keeping it really simple.  With the upcoming closure of one chapter of our lives to hopefully start another I thought it fitting to write something a little different.

This Health and Wellness Fridays segment was created out of a desire to be a healthier and happier me while sharing the knowledge and information gathered with others in the process.  “Knowledge is power”.  However, what we choose to do with that knowledge is where the real power comes from.

This segment has brought me so much joy and knowledge.  I know from the feedback that I get that it is also appreciated by so many of you and I am truly grateful that you take time to read it.

As we move closer to 2018, I have big plans for my life as do so many of you.   The thing is guys, if we don’t start taking better care of ourselves that is, mental health, physical health and emotional health – how good would any of our plans, hopes and dreams be to us or our families?

Make a proactive decision today starting in 2017 to DO RIGHT by YOURSELF!  Start with small changes or improvements but START.

I don’t have all the answers.  I don’t live a life free from challenges and obstacles.  I’m like many of you, wanting and desiring better but sometimes we let our comfort get in the way – making taking ACTION seem like a lot of work.  Aren’t we worth that investment of effort, time and money?  I believe we ARE worth it and it is time we do more about it.

We don’t need to be anybody’s vision of perfect. We just need to develop and foster within ourselves a passion and love for self that drives us to want and actively pursue a better, stronger and healthier version of ourselves.

From today onward, NO LONGER will we allow self-doubt, fear, negative people, negative thinking, lack of finances and excuses to hold us back from improving various aspects of our health and ultimately our lives.  It’s time to get creative and resourceful to think and work ourselves into a better way of living. 🙂

Make that decision with me today to seriously go after that better and healthier life that we deserve and I have no doubt that happiness will follow.

I wish us all good health, happiness, prosperity and clarity of mind and spirit.

Best wishes to you and your families today, tomorrow and for the New Year 2018. 🙂

As always, thank you for your continued support.

Top 12 tips for a Successful and Productive 2018

Welcome back!  I trust that your Christmas celebrations went well.  We’ve all opened our gifts, shared a few laughs and got a little time to hopefully reflect on how truly blessed we’ve been in 2017.

As you all know, the approach of the New Year 2018 draws nearer and nearer with each day and this is typically the time when we make ‘promises’ to ourselves and sometimes others about what we’re doing to do differently and what we’re hoping to change.

I propose that we take a different approach to this age-old practice and instead of making promises aka  resolutions let’s make some proactive decisionsThe truth is a promise provides mental comfort but proactive decision-making can provide actual results.

So how are we going to do this?  Let’s take a look.

  1. For starters, let’s not set unrealistic expectations.  It’s not fair to ourselves when we set unrealistic expectations. Do yourself a favour PUSH yourself but don’t BREAK yourself.
  2. List the areas of our lives we want to improve on  be it our health, finances, relationships, jobs, etc.
  3. Make a plan for each area that actively treats with the areas of our lives we want to see blossom or transform.  List step by step how we will go about this transformation.  Example, for health a plan we may consider reviewing our eating habits, getting active through exercise or starting a sport, getting a medical checkup.  This may require doing some research and implementing real change in how we currently care for our bodies.
  4. We have to be willing to do the work to get the results we want.  Change is never easy but it is often necessary for us to improve and foster greater happiness in our lives.
  5. Be your own cheerleader.  Don’t rely solely on the support of others for your success.  You have to want to succeed for yourself.  It is this burning desire that  will push you to succeed even when things around you change.
  6. Stick with the plan. We may get distracted from time to time and may even fall off the wagon completely.  Don’t waste time feeling guilty.  Make a decision from now not a promise that YOU WILL not accept failure this time.  YOU WILL get back on track and make things right not because of a promise you made but rather because YOU ARE worth it!
  7. Distance yourself from negativity – that includes negative people and negative thinking. These are some common elements to failure. Negativity is not cheering for our success the sooner we can see that and take corrective action our lives can turn around for the better.
  8. Be flexible.  We must be willing to adapt to whatever change may occur.  We may meet and exceed our goal likewise we may have to alter or modify certain aspects of it to get the best outcome.  Be open-minded about the process. Nothing is set in stone.  The only unbreakable aspect of this must be our determination to see this through. 🙂
  9. Believe in yourself and your ability to do this.
  10. Don’t allow your fears to keep you stuck in the past.  In 2018, take those fears and use them as fuel for your success.
  11. Acknowledge your achievements no matter how small and reward yourself for a job well done.
  12. Lastly, never give up! For when we do, we truly fail.

A special thank you to each of you who read and support my blog. May 2018 bring us fresh ideas, clarity of mind and spirit, prosperity, joy, love, good health and happiness. May wisdom and understanding never be a stranger in our lives.

Joy

Joy can come not only from what we get but rather what we can give or do for someone else.

It is triggered by that selfless act that takes us to a point where we look beyond ourselves and focus on improving the lives of the people who need someone to take action and care just as much as they do about what happens to them.

Joy does not have to be expensive.  It could be as simple as a kind word, a smile, being helpful, showing compassion or an act of selflessness.

Create some joy in someone’s life today.

Have a wonderful night and a Merry Christmas!  Thank you for stopping by. 🙂

Health and Wellness Fridays – Inflammation (Symptoms, Causes and Treatment)

Welcome back to Health and Wellness Fridays! I hope your day has been filled with joy and laughter. May God continue to watch over you and your families not only providing for you but blessing each of you with good health, understanding and time to make things right.  I ask this for myself and my family also. Today ladies and gentlemen we’re going to look at the painful topic known as inflammation.

What is inflammation?

Inflammation is the body’s way of defending itself against foreign invaders, such as viruses and bacteria; as well as healing itself after injury.  Without inflammation, wounds would fester and infections could become deadly.  However, although necessary inflammation can also be problematic as Chronic inflammation can eventually cause several diseases and conditions.

Symptoms of inflammation include:
  • joint pain
  • redness
  • swelling
  • warmth or heat
  • joint stiffness
  • loss of joint function or immobility
Causes of inflammation

Inflammation can be caused by any number of physical reactions triggered by the immune system in response to a physical injury or an infection.  It should be noted however, that although an infection can cause inflammation, inflammation is not necessarily a sign of an infection.

Types of inflammation

There are two types of inflammation acute and chronic.

An acute inflammation is one that starts rapidly and becomes severe in a short space of time. The symptoms are usually only present for a few days but can persist for a few weeks in some cases.

Chronic inflammation on the other hand, refers to long-term inflammation and can last for several months and even years.  This maybe the result of failure to correct whatever was causing an acute inflammation; an autoimmune disorder or exposure to a low-level irritant, such as an industrial chemical over a long period of time.  Chronic inflammation has been linked to some cancers, heart disease, depression, arthritis, diabetes and even Alzheimer’s disease.

Some possible treatments for inflammation include:

Although inflammation is part of the healing process for many the pain that is sometimes associated with it can be unbearable and often have to medication for relief. Some non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs commonly used to treat inflammation include: naproxen, ibuprofen, and aspirin.

Paracetamol or Tylenol can reduce pain without affecting the inflammation. They may be ideal for those persons wishing to treat just the pain while allowing the healing factor of the inflammation to run its course.

Corticosteroids, such as cortisol, are a class of steroid hormones that prevent a number of mechanisms involved in inflammation.

Creams and ointments may be prescribed for inflammation of the skin, eyes, lungs, bowels, and nose.

In some instances, rest, exercise, physical therapy or surgery may be required.

Most of the medicinal treatments have negative side effects if taken over a long period of time.  It is these possible side effects that have forced some people to look for more natural remedies to treat their symptoms geared around their diet.

Some anti-inflammatory foods include:

  1. Green Leaf Vegetables such as Spinach, Kale and more
  2. Beets
  3. Celery
  4. Broccoli
  5. Tomatoes
  6. Fruits such as blueberries, strawberries, pineapple, oranges and cherries
  7. Fatty fish such as Salmon, Mackerel, Tuna and Sardines
  8. Nuts such as Walnuts and Almond
  9. Coconut oil and Olive oil
  10. Chia Seeds
  11. Ginger
  12. Turmeric

Some foods that can make inflammation worse include:

  1. Fried foods
  2. Soda and other sugar sweetened beverages
  3. Red meat
  4. Processed meats
  5. Refined Carbs
  6. Lard
  7. Margarine

At the end of the day, inflammation has its role in the body and that is to defend and repair.  However, we need to monitor the pains we are getting and treat with them accordingly because ignoring them can lead to more serious conditions later on.

There are many options out there for treating inflammation so talk to your doctor and seek guidance as to which one maybe best for you.

The good news is, simple alterations to our diet can also help us fight some of the side effects of inflammation.

Thank you for stopping by.  Have a wonderful weekend. 🙂
