You’re not alone..

There have been times in my life when I wished and even prayed for a simple answer to some of my problems that would clearly say, “Cherylene, do this or do that.”

There were also times when I didn’t feel like I would ever find the answers or my way out of some of the situations I found myself in.

I blamed everyone and everything for what was happening around me.  The bank, my ex, my family, the economy, work and ultimately life.  I honestly believed that the universe was just ganging up me and would not give me a break. The people around me didn’t seem to be faced with as many obstacles as I was and this made me angry and even a little resentful.  It is sad to say but I was not in a good place.

Everything just seemed to be falling a part.  Whenever I thought I had finally had a breakthrough something else would happen.   I was stressed out, frustrated and angry and one day I just hit my peak.  You know, the straw that broke the camel’s back kind of scenario.   I can tell you this now but I never told anyone else. Well, now the world will know but maybe this could help someone who is where I was.

I sat in my room and just started crying and crying like never before. I’m usually someone who holds her shit together and would just keep everything inside but this time was different.  This time I cried out to God because I realized that I was really angry with myself and God for ‘allowing’ me to get where I was.

I knew I could do better and be better but I just did not know how or where to start.  I  don’t know how long I sat there crying and just asking God why this was all happening to me and why he wouldn’t help me.

Then all of a sudden I felt a sense calm and peace fill me and my room.  I then heard a voice say, “You never asked for my help. You complain and complain about your problems but you never once asked me directly for my help.”

I sat there on my bed in shock and even doubting I heard anything because there was no one else around.  I was home alone just me, myself and I and yet I felt ashamed of myself.  I kneeled down beside my bed and prayed and ask God to forgive me.  I asked for his guidance and direction in and over every aspect of my life.

Over the next few days, months and years I learnt to stop complaining about what was not right in my life and learned to give praise and thanks for what was right.  I had to trust in God’s plan for my life and demonstrate that trust through my words and actions and not stress over the stuff I did not have the details for.

My life has changed and improved more than I thought possible  thanks to the favour and mercy of God in my life.  The good news is,  I know God is not done yet.     I had to make a conscious decision to change the way I was going about life – my thinking,  the words I would speak over my situations even some of the people I surrounded myself with. It was in no way easy but I see now that it was necessary.  I took that step of faith towards a new beginning and a better, happier life and I have no regrets.

I wish I had done it sooner but I recognise now that everything had to happen the way it did for me to truly appreciate where I am today.

It’s never too late.  If you’ve been crying out to God for help and direction and have not seen improvements in your life maybe, just maybe you’re not looking close enough to the answers or signs he has given you to get you where you need to be.

God gives us signs we just need to open ourselves up to seeing and receiving them.

Rise and Fall

Rising and falling is an art-form that is only perfected through experience. For when we succeed, we should do so gracefully and likewise when we fail it is that same grace we should adopt to come back better, wiser and stronger than before.

Make today a great one.  Thank you for stopping by. 🙂

Tears

Tears help cleanse our souls

They wash away the hurt and pain

That can sometimes drive some of us insane

Relieving the internal pressure on our brains

Making it easier for us to breathe again

Tears are one way of expressing our joy and sadness

The body’s way of easing the madness

So there’s no need to hold them back

They can be rather hard to control

As a matter of fact

So many times we’re often forced to fold

As the tears begin to roll down our cheeks

It’s clear by then that we’ve reached our peaks

So cry dear friend and let it out

Your heart is hurting, that’s nothing to be ashamed about

From our tears we can sometimes find strength

Surfacing from deep inside among the things we try to hide

For behind our tears there are often different fears

But never believe that no one cares.

So I’ll cry for me

You cry for you

We both cry when we hurt

This much is true.

Tears have a purpose and more often than not when we keep holding them back constantly we make it harder for ourselves emotionally.  When we allow ourselves to feel sometimes that’s the only way we can truly heal.

Have a good night.  Thank you for stopping by.

Music Reflection – No More Tears

Hello and Welcome back to “Music Reflection Mondays” unfortunately, I was too exhausted to post this yesterday hence I adjusted the title to post it today.  I hope that all is well with each of you.

Today, I would like to highlight some songs that helped me get through some tough moments in my life that I didn’t think I would get over but I have. 🙂 For those of you wondering if this post was triggered by a recent incident have no worries it wasn’t. I’m happy to report that all is well. 🙂

I was in the car listening to the radio when a couple of songs were played that took me back and they made me feel all sorts of emotions sad, happy and grateful all at the same time.   It was in these moments of reflection that made me realize just how much music has been a part of my life.

Some of the music gave me strength when I was weak, courage when I was afraid and comfort when I sad.   I can truly say that listening to the words of some of those songs helped speed up my healing process.

The music for me was never used to forget what happened but rather help me move past it.  If you listen to the right kind of music maybe, just maybe it can do the same for you too.

Some of my favourites old and new included:

My list can go on and on but I won’t. 🙂 Music feeds the soul and has the potential to  soothe the heart and mind as well.  Don’t let the pressures of life keep you down.  We’re all going through something so don’t give up, keep moving.

Have a wonderful night and a blessed.

We’re so much more…

A special Good Monday morning to each of you!  🙂 I just wanted to share these words of encouragement as we start a new day and a fresh week.  It is easy to forget just how special and amazing we are and can be because we sometimes let life and its challenges get the better of us.  I pray and ask God to let these words be a reminder for each of us as take away from this post what we need as we read it.

We’re so much more than our flesh and bones

We love, we laugh, we cry, we hurt

We learn, we grow and are always eager to know

Because we’re more than just our flesh and bones.

We’re intelligent, creative and beautiful creatures

Filled with passion and one of a kind features

Sometimes drawn to the illusion that we’re not enough

Causes constant confusion but as we try to separate fact from fiction

As our minds begin to clear and we can finally hear

Just how rare and special we are

No one quite like us near or far

Each created with purpose and all we need do is focus

Because we’re more than just flesh and bones.

We’re like miniature kings and queens placed on this Earth

Gifted with unique talents and mind-blowing intellect

Over flowing with creativity but sometimes too blinded by ourselves to see

We are more than simply you and me

We just have to open up our minds to see

That we are so much more but we must be willing to explore

Because we’re more than just flesh and bones.

Thank you for stopping by.  Have a wonderful Monday and an amazing week.  🙂

Health and Wellness Fridays- The Bitter Sweet Side of Sugar

Welcome back to Health and Wellness Fridays!  I trust that you have conquered your week and that today was like the icing on the cake whereby things just got better. 🙂

Please accept my apologies for not posting last week.  Today,  we’re going to be looking at sugar.

spoon-2426623__340

“Sugar” is that special ingredient added to many of our beverages and baked goods that just makes them taste better or rather should I say sweeter. 🙂  Unfortunately, sugar has attained a negative reputation over the years as more and more knowledge about the side effects of overindulging in its consumption come to the forefront.

However, not all sugar is bad for us and this is where the acquisition and understanding of information is so important.

Did you know?

There are two main classifications of sugars: added or refined sugars and natural sugars.

Added or refined sugars include: refined white sugar (sucrose), brown sugar, honey and syrups that are added to food. These added sugars are called simple carbohydrates and they provide little nutritional value and can cause spikes in blood glucose levels.  This is the sugar that most people advise that we reduce consumption of or abstain from.

Natural sugars on the other hand, are sugars that occur naturally in fruits and milk. These sugars are called complex carbohydrates and they provide nutrition and help regulate blood sugar.

So you see, not all sugars are bad for us but we need to know what to look out for.

Types of Sugars

Although sugar can be classified into two main groups, it can be further broken down into three categories: white sugars, brown sugars and liquid sugar.  Within each of these categories are even more sugars, some of which I only learned about during the course of my research to be honest.  Let’s take a closer look.

Some white sugars include:

  • Bakers Special Sugar
  • Castor/Caster Sugar
  • Confectioners or Powdered Sugar
  • Coarse Sugar
  • Granulated Sugar
  • Sanding Sugar
  • Superfine, Ultra Fine, or Bar Sugar

Some brown sugars include:

  • Brown sugar (light and dark)
  • Demerara Sugar
  • Muscovado or Barbados Sugar
  • Turbinado Sugar

Liquid sugar or (sucrose) is basically white granulated sugar that is dissolved in water before it is used.

Invert Sugar – is the sugar we get from splitting sucrose into its two component sugars (glucose and fructose).  Fructose is sweeter than either glucose or sucrose. Invert sugar is therefore sweeter than white sugar.

Some benefits or the ‘sweet side’ of sugar as it relates to the body include:

  • Energy booster – glucose is the body’s primary source of fuel, and it comes from the breakdown of sugar.
  • Help us store energy – After glucose is converted into energy for immediate use, the body will store some of the glucose as an energy reserve for later.
  • Instantly improve our mood – sugar activates the pleasure center of our brain and causes a rush of dopamine. This will produce an immediate, euphoric feeling.
  • Natural Sugar Sources Come With Added Nutrients – dairy products, fruits and veggies all provide natural sugars in addition to fiber, antioxidants, vitamins, minerals and hydration. You can indulge in all the natural sweets you want without creating unhealthy insulin spikes.
  • Skin health – Sugar’s glycolic acid can be very helpful in maintaining the health and look of your skin. Using it can help elimination blemishes and restoring the balance in the skin’s oils.

Some of the negatives or the ‘bitter side’ of indulging in too much refined sugars include:

  • Weight gain that could lead to obesity.
  • Spike of blood sugar that can lead to diabetes.
  • Leave you feeling overly energized or hyperactive
  • Increase cholesterol levels that can ultimately lead to heart disease.
  • Create insulin resistance
  • Addictive
  • Create a resistance to the hormone called Leptin
  • Cause dental cavities

After reading the above my hope is that you’ve gained a better understanding and appreciation for the bitter-sweet of sugar.  Refined sugars bring that quick fix we’re sometimes looking or craving for but too much of it can be harmful.  Natural sugars are healthier for us that’s a fact but they aren’t ideal for every situation or occasion. This is where using our moderation and discretion comes in.

So dear friends, weigh the pros and cons of what you’re eating and strive to improve the areas of your eating habits that can be harmful to your health.

In life there are a few things we just have no control over but we do have some control over how sweet we want our lives to be.
