Health and Wellness Fridays – Benefits of a body detox

Welcome back everyone to Health and Wellness Fridays! I hope that everyone is doing well.

Today I would like to talk about the benefits of a body detox.

What is a body detox?

A  body detox refers to the process of removing toxic or unhealthy substances from the body to help the body’s natural detox system function efficiently and effectively.

How does the body naturally remove toxins?

The body’s natural detox system consists of the liver, the kidney, the digestive system, the lungs and the skin.  All of these organs are responsible for transporting and removing waste from the body.  Heavy metals for instance are removed through our urine and sweat while solid waste are excreted in the form of faeces.

Where do the toxins come from?

You may or may not know this but we’re exposed on a daily basis to toxins.  Toxins are in the air that we breathe, the water we drink and even some of the food we eat unless it is organic.  Over time, such toxins may build up in the body making it increasingly difficult for the body’s natural detox system to perform at its best.

Some benefits of a body detox include:

  1. Increased energy levels
  2. Boost metabolism
  3. Remove free radicals
  4. Boost immune system
  5. Support digestion
  6. Reduce inflammation
  7. Reduce cancer risk
  8. Cleans the blood
  9. Support weight loss
  10. Promote healthier skin and hair
  11. Improve sleep habits
  12. Improve mental alertness
  13. Improve sex drive
  14. Inspire you to make better lifestyle choices

We’ve seen some of the benefits to be gained from doing a detox.  There are many products on the market that claim to facilitate detoxification but all aren’t created equally as some actually add more manufactured chemicals to our bodies so be sure to read your products carefully.  The good news is we can take a natural approach to detoxification with products that many of us already have at home. 🙂

Some natural foods that are great for detox include:

  1. Apple Cider Vinegar
  2. Grapefruit
  3. Green Tea
  4. Lemon water
  5. Apples
  6. Garlic
  7. Broccoli
  8. Cabbage
  9. Carrots
  10. Ginger
  11. Pineapples
  12. Watermelon
  13. Cucumbers
  14. Mint
  15. Aloe Vera Gel
  16. Raspberries
  17. Strawberries

Have a wonderful weekend.  Thank you for stopping by.

  1. Getting as much of that stuff that shouldn’t be in our bodies, out of our bodies, makes such a difference. I eat 8 of the items you have on your list, regularly but seeing all the others that I enjoy but don’t eat as regularly will definately be added to my “regularly eat” list. Thanks Cherylene. God bless you always and have a wonderful weekend :):)
