Never Say Never

Obstacles and challenges come part and parcel with being alive.  I doubt very much that there is anyone on this earth that has great days every single day, free from challenges, obstacles or loss.

However, there are a few people out there who have learnt and continue to learn the importance of not magnifying their problems by the words they use to describe them.  The key this lies not only our attitudes to our problems but our choice of words.

Some things we might typically say when all seems lost include:

“This debt is just so huge. It would take forever to get out of this.”

“I will never get well.”

I am such a failure.”

I never do anything right.”

“I will never get out of this.”

The statements above give the challenges we’re facing strength and magnify them even more.  When we speak in the “I’m already defeated” language, yes, I made that up :), we’re telling ourselves there’s nothing else we can do – so give up. Don’t even waste time searching, exploring, investigating or trying.

When we speak those words over our lives, they become a verbal expression of the ‘I surrender’ action.  The “I’m already defeated” language should be removed from our vocabulary immediately.

What should we do instead?

  1. Get our lives in alignment with God’s word.  I have found that as I read His word (the Bible) and apply it to my life that my problems, fears and concerns don’t control my thoughts anymore.
  2. Seek Him daily through prayer and worship. I have seen and continue to experience breakthroughs in my life so long as I keep God at the center of all I do.  This practice has brought me a sense of peace that was lacking. I used to be overwhelmed and stressed out because of fear and worry.
  3.  Learn to let go and let God do His thing.  We can only do this when we learn to trust Him. The way we trust the bank to have our money accessible when we use the ATM.  The way we trust our credit cards to have the funds we need when we pull them out to make a purchase. We must be confident in His ability and power to deliver us out of the strongholds we’re in.
  4. Thank God every day for the work He is doing behind the scenes to resolve our problems.  In spite of the situation before us, praise Him. In the midst of the confusion and chaos, praise Him.  He will step in and do for us what we could not do for ourselves. I can testify to that.  He proved my doubters wrong. He can do the same for you.
  5. Starve our doubts. We do this when we speak positivity in our situations even when rain is falling.  Even when the devil whispers that we can’t do it, we praise God anyway for the victory He is bringing our way.
  6. Grow and strengthen our faith. Our faith won’t grow if we don’t nurture it daily.  We can do this by trusting and believing with our everything that God is ALL we need. He is everything and there’s NO one or NO thing greater or bigger than Him.
  7. Lastly, don’t just read the word.  Don’t just hear the word. Live it, Breathe it and Feed your spirit and soul with it daily!

There are many stories in the bible where because of the faith of believers God blessed them.  Their trust and faith in God brought them supernatural blessings and favour. They chose to see God as greater than their situations and that was all God needed to work miracles in their lives. Just a few include:

  • Abraham and Sarah who were in their ninety’s when God gave them a son. (Genesis 17)
  • Daniel a boy who slayed the giant Goliath. (1 Samuel 17)
  • Joshua and the gates of Jericho. (Joshua 6)
  • Moses and the Red Sea crossing. (Exodus 14)

Dear friends, we are never too old, too young or too messed up to be used by God to do anything.  Once, we believe and trust in Him He would open all doors for us. Before I go, I leave you with this piece of scripture from Isaiah 41:10 (NKJV)

Fear not, for I am with you; Be not dismayed, for I am your God.  I will strengthen you,

Yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.

Thank you for making this blog one of your stops on this journey called life.

  1. Amen Cherylene, have faith in God, and starve that doubt until it is but dust, and “poof” blows away. I love, “I’m already defeated language” you can make up anything you want. It is true, and it fit ;):) God bless you, Sister :):)

  2. This is so lovely and true. When we are faced with obstacles we tend to feel as though we will never overcome them and negative thoughts start flooding our minds. It truly is important to keep in mind that God is a way-maker and everything will work out if we just trust in him 🌼
