What’s Up Wednesdays? #4

Wednesday greetings to you all!  I hope you’re all having a good week so far.  Trinidad and Tobago was on a storm watch for the last few days and the tropical storm “Bret” finally hit us yesterday.

Unfortunately, we did have some reports of persons losing their homes due to landslides.  We had heavy rains and various reports of flooding that caused a lot of families to distress.  There were also reports of no electricity in some parts of the island.

Today for the most part most of the country sunny.  Most of us have returned to work and some of the children returned to schools.   My heart goes out to the families who have been affected by the flooding. I hope that the relevant authorities give them the necessary help they need in the fastest possible time.

So it’s time for me to share what’s been going on so let’s get into it.

What I’m eating this week:

Today for lunch, I had homemade beef lasagna with callaloo and green salad enriched with a few slices of avocado.  Sorry no pictures, I ate all my lunch already.  I’m bowing my head in shame.  I love avocados.  They taste so good and they’re also good for you.  For dinner, we might make some beef empanadas. What are you having for lunch today?

What I’m reminiscing about:

Nothing much today. I am at peace with myself at the moment. Thank God for that.   🙂

What I’m loving:

My friend Cheila over at Pink for Days did a piece on me last week Thursday that totally made my day. It was part of her Perfect Party Series and I was featured.  She is really a sweet and kind person and I’m glad I met her.  If you like you can check it out Perfect Party Series #10 Cherylene.  Thank you, Cheila!

 What I’ve been up to:

I’ve been posting more than usual for the past few days sometimes two or three posts for the day.  It feels like I have so much to say sometimes then there are days when I can only do one piece.

Writing and blogging are definitely a passion and the more I get into it the more I enjoy it.  I’m glad I took the leap and did it.  The support and encouragement I have received from my family and the blogging community especially has been more than I expected.  Thank you! 🙂

What I’m dreading:

Rainy Season! It’s the start of the rainy season here.  I love the rain don’t get me wrong but when you have things to do and places to go it could be a bit of a bother. I have some painting in and around the house that I hope to start in the next few weeks so we’ll see how that goes.

What I’m working on:

My family and I are overdue for a change of scenery so I’m working on planning a vacation getaway for us.  Will let you guys know what I come up with.  I’ll definitely be taking pictures of that adventure to share with you. 🙂

What I’m excited about:

Vacation, vacation, vacation!!!!  Did someone say vacation? I love packing my suitcase to leave for my new destination.  The kids love it too and nothing gets them more excited than the thought of going on an aeroplane.  🙂

What I’m watching:

So I finally started Orphan Black Season 1.  The show grips you from the beginning and doesn’t take long to get into the drama as the plot thickens. There is a lot going on so you need to stay seated or pause the show because you could miss something. Will I continue watching the series?  Definitely, I need to see where this goes.  Thank you Angela. 🙂

Who/ What I’m listening to:

Shawn Mendez – Stitches and Treat You Better . I love those songs!!!

What I’m wearing:

I’ve made an executive decision to change this heading to “Let’s go shopping!” instead hope that’s okay.  Where should we go? I don’t know where to start. Here are a few pictures of some stuff I liked online.

The first picture is from Lulu Fashion Lounge.  The second and third are from Dress Up.   Please note, that I have not purchased anything from these stores but I love some of the clothes they had on offer.  If you’ve purchased from them let me know your thoughts.  I personally love these looks and would definitely wear all of these.  Do you have an online favourite place to buy your clothes, if you shop online?

What I’m doing this weekend:

This weekend is a lot like last weekend so there will be chores in the forecast. The kids have lessons so maybe to help them relax this weekend we could go and do something fun like go to the beach or maybe take them to Chuckecheese! I know they will love that. We’ll see how the weekend goes.

What I’m looking forward to the next month:

The closure of schools and the start of vacation.

What else is new?

I created a new segment called Music Reflection Mondays where I highlight music from my childhood to date that has helped me through the various periods in my life. Feel free to take a look. I feel very good about this new addition.  Hope you enjoy it too.  Look out for it every Monday.

Thanks for taking time to read and visit my blog.  That’s all for now.  Make the rest of the week a great one.

See you soon.

Power of Choices

Choice is such a simple word and yet it is so powerful in the way it can affect our lives and the lives of others.

When we make a choice, we’re making a decision to consciously do or not do something.

Be it to nurture, mentor, love, share, help, live, die even forgive.  The choice is ultimately up to us.

Life is full of choices.  Let us use our power of choice to help not only ourselves but others in a positive way.  Let us be the difference and make a difference.

Sometimes if we make a poor decision we might get an opportunity to try again but not all situations in life work out that way.  Sometimes there is no reset button and we have to live with the choices we’ve made.

Let us try to avoid doing things in haste and anger for the outcome of such decisions are never good.  Use your power wisely!

Thanks for reading.

Followers vs Readers

Followers are great because they are a reflection of how relatable and or enjoyable your blog is.  They make you feel proud.

Readers however, are the people behind the scenes who take time to read what you write.  They push us to create, they inspire us to push ourselves to be better writers and bloggers.  They make you feel heard and understood through their comments and likes.

When we are lucky to have both then it fosters a stronger blogging community whereby we can actively support and encourage each other.

We need to give back just as much as we expect of our fellow bloggers.

So what’s it going to be, FOLLOWER, READER OR BOTH?

I’m all in! Are you?

It’s Cold and Wet

White skies

Mountains covered in white

Rain clouds have put them all out of sight

Wind blowing

Trees swaying from left to right

Airlines forced to cancel flights

Some now forced to overnight

Rain clouds overhead

As their rain drops full the rivers

And flood the streets

Mom and dad hope they bought enough treats

Cold tiles below my feet

Chilly breeze fills the air

I pull my blanket and keep it near

The storm is here

Hip hip hooray all schools closed today

So children get to stay home and play

While parents hope and pray

That the storm won’t last another day.

Clown Nightmare

Daily Prompt: Relieved

“It was just dream,” said David as he woke up covered in his sweat.  His heart racing as he was running for his life as he believed he was near death.

He has always been tormented as a child by his fear of clowns.   Now a grown man, avoiding clowns was his action plan.   His fears did not subside because he would often hide them inside.

“Are you okay babe?” asked his girlfriend Samantha. This was the third time this week that he had awoken her from her sleep.

Tonight was a special night, it was Halloween.  His brother Dave knew how much he hated clowns and planned to surprise him tonight of all nights with his clown costume.  Samantha advised Dave against it though and hoped that would be the end of that.

It was 5 minutes before midnight and there was a loud, frantic knocking at the door.  David looked at Samantha with a concerned look on his face as he grabbed his baseball bat and slowly approached the front door.

“Who is it?” shouted David.

“It’s me Dave open up, hurry!” shouted Dave in a shaky voice.

When David opened the door he was frozen in fear. He saw his twin brother held at gunpoint by someone in a clown suit.  All his childhood fears came rushing back faster than his heart could pump the blood through his veins.

Samantha stood there also frozen and in shock and could not believe this was really happening.  Get on the floor shouted the strange man to Dave as he pushed him into the apartment.  David decided enough was enough and he would not live in fear any longer.  He hit the gun out of the stranger’s hand and began beating him all over his body with the bat.

It’s Dillon! It’s Dillon, stop!  David eventually stopped as the clown mask fell off and his other twin brother’s blood covered face emerged.

He dropped to his knees and hugged his unconscious twin relieved that he was not the monster he envisioned all these years.

Samantha called an ambulance and they all went to the hospital. Dillon recovered with minor injuries.  Dave and Dillon promised never to use David’s fear against him again.

After that night, David was no longer afraid of clowns.

Moving On

Moving on

Often easier said than done

Until you are the one

Feeling the pain in your chest

As your heart aches

And your mind races

Playing over and over in your head

Things said and done

You can’t sleep or get any rest

Because the person you loved

And you thought loved you

Decided to move on without you in their life

That is a tough pill to swallow

But acceptance eventually comes but it takes time

You’ll be angry, sad, depressed and sometimes just

Damn confused about why and how this could even happen

I can tell you it gets better

After you cry your eyes out

Maybe even give a good scream and shout

For each of us the recovery time varies

But you CAN and WILL overcome this

You can’t see it now but it is for the BEST

One day at a time, make the decision

To be your best self

The brokenness you’re feeling won’t last

Smile even when you don’t feel like it

Talk to someone,

The worst thing you could do is shut everyone out

You will love and be loved again

You will smile, laugh and create even better memories

You will be happy again

The love of your life is still out there

If you give up now, how is he or she going to find YOU 🙂

Music Reflection Mondays

Come Travel With Me was a new segment I wanted to introduce to you guys today but I was inspired to do something else.  I call it, Music Reflection Mondays since music was the inspiration for this piece.

In some of my less than terrific moments in my life there were various singers who through their music helped me cope during some difficult times, gave me clarity, joy, peace of mind even helped me release some of the anger I felt in a healthy way. They made me feel better.

Natalie Imbruglia

Natalie Imbruglia is one of those singers. She was there at a time in my early teenage years when I was very angry and depressed.  Her song Torn touched me in a special way.  I felt as though she had heard me and was singing exactly how I felt. I played and replayed that song over and over until I got what I needed from it.  What did I get?

I eventually realized that I did not want to be “torn” anymore I wanted to be whole and happy. I chose to forgive because it was the only way I could move forward.  It took tremendous courage and strength but I did it.

From my teenage years to present, I can honestly say that the healing power of music to the mind is powerful and should definitely be explored. Of course, I’m just suggesting it as a form of therapy, to relax and unwind and clear your mind.  It is definitely a pick me upper and can be a stress reliever if you choose the right type of music and artiste that appeals to you.

Music Reflection Mondays is not going to be about me bringing my personal preferences to you but rather about us sharing with each other – music and artistes that we love.  I am open to discovering someone new.  Are you? 🙂

There are so many to choose from.  We should never limit ourselves to just one thing. It hinders our growth and limits our learning.  My taste in music is wide from different periods both past and present. I’ve found that variety is good and it works for me.

Music preferences vary and that’s cool that we all have different taste. Thankfully, because of that we get amazing artistes creating music and songs that will be forever etched in our minds and hearts.

I think that no matter our preferences we all can agree that music has the power to provoke feelings and emotions some good and some bad.   How we choose to use this often overlooked medium can make a big difference in how we feel, heal and cope with various things in our lives.

John Legend

John Legend is amazing!  Let’s just say, that when he came out with his music it was perfect timing for all I was dealing with in my life. He has been there for me both in the good and bad times.   I had his CD in my car for months just playing it over and over. The kids even learned a few songs. 🙂 I have more than one favourite when it comes to him but some that stand out are All of me, Stay with You, Used to Love You, Love Me Now and When It’s Cold Outside.  Do you have any favourites from him?

From oldies to present day the appeal of music remains.   There are some singers and bands that have songs that still make you tear up, dance your socks off when you hear it or just take you back to a different time in your life almost like a time machine. Do you agree?

Do you have a singer, musician or band that provided you with comfort when you needed it most?  Please share. 🙂

Who are your three all-time favourites singers or groups?

I look forward to seeing some of your favourites below.  Have a great week. See you guys next week as we continue Music Reflection Mondays.

Hope you enjoyed it.
