Welcome back to Health and Wellness Fridays!

To start the New Year off right I must first thank God for blessing me to see another year.  Thank you Heavenly Father for already equipping me with the strength, patience, wisdom, understanding, knowledge and discipline needed to be successful in all that I’ve set out to do and may it all be pleasing to you.  In Jesus name I pray and give thanks. Amen!  🙂

Today, I would like to set the tone for the next few months as it relates to improving my health and overall well-being.  It is my hope that you will find these points useful as you chart your own course towards a healthier and happier you.

Here are some points that I have decided to pay special attention to as I put 2018 into perspective especially as it relates to the way forward for my overall health and wellness and ultimately my life.

Health and wellness is a process and therefore that means through our actions and decisions – we are living this conscious choice daily.

How do I go about doing that?

  1. Understanding that being a healthier me starts from within and looks at not only how I treat and care for my body but my mind and spirit as well.  It is a holistic approach to living that I never truly understood or appreciated until now.
  2. Health and wellness does not speak to only what’s going on inside of me but in my environment as well.  It includes the people in my life and all the other factors that directly and indirectly have an impact on my well-being.
  3. Taking responsibility for what I’m doing and not doing to make my life better.
  4. Taking immediate action towards improving the areas I’m weak in or struggle with.
  5. Recognizing that I am human and therefore I will not execute every single day without errors, weaknesses or setbacks and that’s okay.
  6. Not giving up on myself or my desire to become a healthier and happier me. 🙂
  7. Accepting and believing that I am truly worth it.

Why would 2018 be any different from any other year?

  1. In God I’ll put my trust and faith and call on Him when I feel weak and praise His name when I feel strong. This point is first for reason.  Start each day by talking and praying to God.  He will give you the strength to do the impossible.
  2. I AM worth the sacrifice, time, effort, love, joy and happiness that this year can bring.  If I open up myself to receive and go after it.
  3. I AM worth the temporary discomfort that changing and breaking old habits would bring.
  4. I understand that MY betterment WILL only come if I work towards it.
  5. I AM mentally preparing my mind, body and spirit to DO the work that only I can do.
  6. I know that I am NOT the only person in the world struggling with something.
  7. It IS my time to get up and do MORE to improve my own life.
  8. My success has always been mine for the taking!

Whatever we desire for our health and overall well-being for 2018 and beyond WE must be prepared to make some changes and some of that change MUST start within us.  If, we are to be successful in achieving our goals for better and happier lives we must do the work that is needed at our very CORE.  There is no escaping it.

For it is our fears, self-doubt, negativity, skepticism, laziness and sometimes our willingness to just settle right where we are that has kept us exactly where we are.  2018 will be different because WE WILL make it different. One day and one step at a time.

Thank you for making this blog one of your stops in this journey called life.

Have a wonderful weekend. 🙂

A mother’s love

Mother’s Day Greetings to all the mothers out there!  Know that we are special beings and we are critical to the success of the future. I want to wish you all a wonderful day!  🙂

I prepared this poem weeks ago and saved it just for today.  I am dedicating this poem to my sons Marc (11) and Luke (3) without whom I would not be celebrating this day.

Life is short and we don’t know how long we have.   I know they both know I love them very much.  My prayer and wish today is that the memories we make along the way will always make them know and feel the love I will always have for them.

I sat them both down and read it to them before publishing and they enjoyed it.   This brings joy to my heart. 🙂

You came into my life as two total strangers

Yet you are closer to me than any other family member

You are my sons and I will always be your mother

………………………………………………………………………………

Two precious gifts sent from above

Unique, caring and sweet

With personalities that can’t be beat

You know how to get me off my feet 🙂

…………………………………………………………….

Your presence in my life has made me a better person

With drive and never-ending reasons

To always do my best, no matter the season

………………………………………………………………………….

So as you one day grow into men

Remember, real power comes from within

With God on your side you can win

……………………………………………………………………………..

No matter where we are

Near or far, happy or sad

Do good in all that you do

And may God always bless and watch over you

Know that YOU are LOVED

Because you are SPECIAL GIFTS from above.

Love,

Mummy

People Change

People change and that’s inevitable

Because no one stays the same

Causing relationships to get a little strange

Sometimes it’s for the better

Sometimes for the worse

This of course can hurt us the most

…………………………………………………………………………

As love and friendship can sometimes become a stranger

Well intended communication can turn a disaster

As distance becomes the new comfort zone

Because no one wants to pick up the phone

……………………………………………………………………………………..

Silence and avoidance now the common preference

In an effort to make my heart sore

You used your words to pierce my core

So now our time shared is no more

Maybe it’s me, maybe it’s you

Maybe all of it is true

……………………………………………………………………….

Positive change is great; making you want to celebrate

But negative change can really make you sad

In times like that, you can only speak your mind

And hope that in time, betterment they will find

……………………………………………………………………………….

I’ve learnt that change is necessary

Although difficult to accept at times

It can bring with it growth and wisdom

Even freedom and salvation.

STOP ignoring the signs

Traffic lights save lives but only when we pay attention and obey the signs.   They are there to facilitate the safe and smooth flow of traffic as well as to protect pedestrians.  For most of us the red light means stop; the amber light to slow down and the green light to go.  Unfortunately, for a few of us red, amber and green mean GO, GO FASTER and GO ALREADY!  When we ignore the signs and their significance we can sometimes bring harm to ourselves and others.

This can be applied to our everyday lives as well.  There are ‘seen’ and ‘unseen’ dangers out there that we can see and yet we run in with our eyes wide open because we tell ourselves we’re in control of the situation – we have our high levels of denial to thank for that. 🙂

Then there are those dangers that are not as obvious and often blind side us.  This is true when it comes to our relationships with others and ourselves, our finances, our children and our health and many other areas of our lives.

You are ignoring the signs when:

  1. You are constantly making excuses for yourself and others.
  2. You are always trying to justify why things are the way they are.
  3. You choose to stay in a situation that is hurting you either physically, emotionally, psychologically or spiritually.
  4. You choose to stay silent.
  5. You let your anger and bitterness consume you rather than treat with the issue in a healthier way.
  6. You choose to use negative and unhealthy ways to numb yourself from the pain and pressures of life.
  7. You ignore or down play negative behaviour.
  8. Do nothing positive to change the negative things in your life.
  9. You pretend bad things don’t bother you.
  10. You don’t admit or seek help when you need it most.

If you could relate to any of these that’s a relief because it tells me I’m not alone. I have been at each of these stages at one point or another and not dealing with them never makes things better.

Ignoring the signs often results in stress, illness, conflict internally and externally, grief, resentment and maybe even death.  You don’t have to accept things the way they are.  Assess your each situation to determine what you have control over and what things you don’t. The things that you have control over like your actions and thoughts take action to improve whatever areas need adjustment.

The things you really have NO control over like the weather and other people’s actions and behaviour.   Ask God for the strength and ability to accept it and move forward.   There may be some people and situations you may have to distance yourself from, so be it.  Life is too short to go around bitter and angry.

Stay blessed and remember you’re not alone and drive safely.  🙂
