Be Still

Hello and welcome back! Glory to God for this new day and opportunity to be better than we were yesterday. May this Tuesday morning find you in good health, peace of mind, body and spirit knowing that you are cared for, loved and special to the Almighty God.

Like any good father or parent, He wants only what is best for us. He wants us to not only experience life but to enjoy it. He wants us to live stress free without worry and concern for all the everyday challenges that come our way.

However, we can only truly enjoy life the way He wants us to by putting our trust and faith solely in Him. Not our jobs, our spouses, our pastors, circumstances or ourselves. The way we trusted our parents to provide all that we needed growing up. The way we trust that the medicine the doctor gave us is going to make us feel better.

The way we visit restaurants trusting that what they have prepared for us is clean and safe to eat. Unlike these previous examples, where we blindly trust these institutions and individuals to do what is best for us. I have learnt that with God as my provider, protector and comforter there are NO limitations as to what He can do for and in me.

So, dear friends as we go about our daily routines let us never forget to trust Him and trust in Him to do ALL that He has promised to do in our lives once we are obedient to His word.

Let us NOT allow the worry of yesterday or the concerns of tomorrow to cause us to miss the blessings that God has already provided for us today.

God knows all of our fears and concerns. He does not need us to be walking around with them in the forefront of our minds all the time. When we do this, we’re too distracted to get the blessings and the messages He is trying to leave us. His word helps us be successful in life.

So, today practice the following:

  • Be still.
  • Trust Him.
  • Trust in Him.
  • Seek Him daily.
  • Let go of all the worry and fear.

The fear and the constant worrying is only going to keep us from focusing on His word. Let us devote time to Him daily so that He can equip us with ALL that we need to know to overcome the obstacles in our lives.

Health and Wellness Fridays – 2018 with a Difference

Welcome back to Health and Wellness Fridays!

To start the New Year off right I must first thank God for blessing me to see another year.  Thank you Heavenly Father for already equipping me with the strength, patience, wisdom, understanding, knowledge and discipline needed to be successful in all that I’ve set out to do and may it all be pleasing to you.  In Jesus name I pray and give thanks. Amen!  🙂

Today, I would like to set the tone for the next few months as it relates to improving my health and overall well-being.  It is my hope that you will find these points useful as you chart your own course towards a healthier and happier you.

Here are some points that I have decided to pay special attention to as I put 2018 into perspective especially as it relates to the way forward for my overall health and wellness and ultimately my life.

Health and wellness is a process and therefore that means through our actions and decisions – we are living this conscious choice daily.

How do I go about doing that?

  1. Understanding that being a healthier me starts from within and looks at not only how I treat and care for my body but my mind and spirit as well.  It is a holistic approach to living that I never truly understood or appreciated until now.
  2. Health and wellness does not speak to only what’s going on inside of me but in my environment as well.  It includes the people in my life and all the other factors that directly and indirectly have an impact on my well-being.
  3. Taking responsibility for what I’m doing and not doing to make my life better.
  4. Taking immediate action towards improving the areas I’m weak in or struggle with.
  5. Recognizing that I am human and therefore I will not execute every single day without errors, weaknesses or setbacks and that’s okay.
  6. Not giving up on myself or my desire to become a healthier and happier me. 🙂
  7. Accepting and believing that I am truly worth it.

Why would 2018 be any different from any other year?

  1. In God I’ll put my trust and faith and call on Him when I feel weak and praise His name when I feel strong. This point is first for reason.  Start each day by talking and praying to God.  He will give you the strength to do the impossible.
  2. I AM worth the sacrifice, time, effort, love, joy and happiness that this year can bring.  If I open up myself to receive and go after it.
  3. I AM worth the temporary discomfort that changing and breaking old habits would bring.
  4. I understand that MY betterment WILL only come if I work towards it.
  5. I AM mentally preparing my mind, body and spirit to DO the work that only I can do.
  6. I know that I am NOT the only person in the world struggling with something.
  7. It IS my time to get up and do MORE to improve my own life.
  8. My success has always been mine for the taking!

Whatever we desire for our health and overall well-being for 2018 and beyond WE must be prepared to make some changes and some of that change MUST start within us.  If, we are to be successful in achieving our goals for better and happier lives we must do the work that is needed at our very CORE.  There is no escaping it.

For it is our fears, self-doubt, negativity, skepticism, laziness and sometimes our willingness to just settle right where we are that has kept us exactly where we are.  2018 will be different because WE WILL make it different. One day and one step at a time.

Thank you for making this blog one of your stops in this journey called life.

Have a wonderful weekend. 🙂

Growth

dream-2678332__340

Growth is more than a physical transformation.

It speaks to the spiritual and intellectual components that make up who we are as individuals.

Don’t be afraid to grow, to stretch yourself, to leave your comfort zone and to challenge yourself because when you do – you encourage and foster a learning environment that results in growth of mind, body and spirit.

May each day be one gifted with knowledge, wisdom and growth.

Strength

harmony-1229893__340

Typically, when we hear the term ‘strength‘ we associate it with physical abilities and attributes.   However, over the years after going through different experiences some good and others rather challenging,  I’ve learnt that strength is so much more than just a physical thing.

What do I mean?

Well, during my difficult moments it was my strength of mind, spirit and family that helped me overcome those not so sunny days.   Let me explain.

  • Strength of mind – this is when we know who we are and no longer allow self-doubt or negative people to have control over our thoughts and emotions.

  • Strength of spirit – this is where our faith and our beliefs come in.   It is in times of adversity that this strength once nurtured and developed can help bring us through those tough periods in our lives.   Without it, we are like sheep among wolves.

  • Strength of family – this strength is often overlooked.  The love, support and encouragement of family is so important in our lives.  They usually rally around us in our time of need.  They usually stand by us through the good and the bad times.  Those of us who don’t have families like that may still be blessed with a few individuals in our lives that we have formed very close and strong bonds with who over the years have become your family.  This is just as significant.

These three aspects of my life have made such a difference in the outcome of various events in my life that I will forever be grateful.  So, am I strong? YES, in every area of my life that matters most to ME.

Am I going to have challenging moments in my life from time to time? Yes!  Why? Being strong in those areas does not mean we won’t have issues or challenges.  Those strengths just mean we would be better able to cope with the obstacles than individuals who have not developed those areas yet.

We use food and exercise to strengthen our bodies but how do we go about strengthening our mind and spirit?

Some things we can do to strengthen those areas include:

  1. Through prayer.
  2. Reading and trying to understand the scripture.  I understand that this can be a bit challenging as we would not always understand everything we read but I believe if we trust and ask God to open our minds and hearts to what he needs us to see and be he would point the way.
  3. Paying attention to what we put in and what we allow those around us to contribute.
  4. Be mindful of the people we surround ourselves with as negative energy breathes negativity.
  5. Take control of our thoughts.
  6. Facing our truths whatever they maybe and choosing to understand, learn and move forward.
  7. Practice forgiveness.  Not just for those persons who have wronged us but ourselves. We are often very tough on ourselves.
  8. Practice self-love.  I believe that even with our imperfections we are still worth love and appreciation.

I’m merely sharing my experience. I can only tell you what has helped me.  Strength is God’s gift to each of us.  Are you prepared and willing to tap into yours?

Thanks for stopping by.  Make today and this weekend a great one.

The struggle within

Daily Prompt: Detonate

It is building up more and more each day

Those unspoken words you refuse to say

Hoping silence would make those feelings go away

…………………………………………………………………

The pain is more than you can bear

But you sit there refusing to share

Your heart is so dear

You’re afraid it would tear

…………………………………………………………….

Don’t be controlled by your fear

There are still people out there who care

Denial will only help your spiral

As the pressure builds, it will slowly spill

Into your life causing strife

Even forcing you to question your life

…………………………………………………………..

Whatever is consuming you inside

You can no longer run from or hide

Because like a grenade you will detonate

Leaving your surroundings desolate

……………………………………………………………….

You can prevent this

This explosion or possible implosion

By healing the corrosion

The corrosion of the mind, body and spirit

You know the one you’re struggling with

It’s time to stand up and face it

Because running you will never shake it.

Thank you for stopping by.

What does it really mean “to love yourself”?

We all hear and make the statement “love yourself” from time to time and I stopped and asked myself what does that really mean?  To “love yourself ” can mean different things to different people. For some it means not taking any crap from anyone; for others it could mean taking good care of their bodies and their health; and for the rest it could be as simple as liking and accepting the person steering back at them in the mirror. 🙂  All of these acts are expressions of self love.

What is self love? Self love is when we choose to love, care and nurture our minds, bodies and spirits through our thoughts, experiences and our relationships. Self love does not happen in a bubble or in isolation. It impacts our self-image and self-worth.

Can we say we truly love ourselves when:

  1. We allow people who are constantly negative with us to remain major players in our lives.
  2. We constantly over indulge in activities that can be harmful to our health.
  3. We are the negative voices in our own heads feeding doubt, fear and insecurity.
  4. We do things that are against everything we stand for.
  5. We stay in relationships that constantly cause us pain.
  6. We don’t make time for ourselves to rest or relax.

Self love looks at the big things and the little things we often take for granted.  How we let the people in our lives speak and treat us can affect our self love and our self-image.  I have heard it said that “respect is something you earn” and I agree with this statement. However, I also believe there are times in life when you have to demand respect as  a human being.

I show myself ‘self love’ in some ways but not all.  So I too am guilty of not truly loving myself the way I should.  I make time to relax.  I remove myself from toxic people and relationships.  I am yet to master the caring for my body the way I should.  I love to eat but I am not as active as I should be but I am trying to live better one day at a time because I am worth it!

Nobody is perfect but we should strive to always do what is right, healthy and best for us especially in negative and unhealthy situations.  Take it one step at a time. Look at the three main areas for self love: mind, body and spirit and try to incorporate positive behaviour and thoughts to start loving yourself more and more each day.

Mind- clear the negativity from your mind and your life. Meditate, pray, go on a weekend retreat, have a spa day just try and relax to clear your mind. Remove the negative elements from your life. You know who and what they are!

Body- pay closer attention to the foods you eat. It’s all about balance, quality and quantity. Exercise a few days a week for a few minutes – go jogging, walking, running, dancing, swimming whatever form you feel like enduring – go for it!  I am no fitness guru but I started exercising and I have started feeling better.

Spirit – this one is all about what you believe in.  Fill your mind, heart and life with so much inspiration, motivation and positive stuff that you just want to burst.  Music, scripture, church, books or poetry. Whatever positively drives you to be better hold onto that because that is where the nurturing comes from.

So let’s promise to love ourselves a little more each day.
