Your situation is not your destiny but rather your testimony

God blessings to each of you. Thank you Lord for opening our eyes this morning.  Thank you Lord for the sweet sound of birds chirping in the background and not gunfire.  Thank you Lord for the brilliance of the sunlight in the distance and not the smoke of a bomb blast covering the sky. Thank you Lord for Your favour, mercy and grace in my life. Thank you Lord that ALL who read this post would be blessed in some way. In Jesus name, amen!

We all have moments in our lives when we feel overwhelmed, depressed, frustrated or alone in whatever problem or challenge we may be facing known or unknown to our friends and family.  In moments such as these we need to remind ourselves of these few words, “Christ is in me. I am enough.”

These words have greatly blessed my life. These words imprinted on my mind and heart from a sermon Steven Furtick was giving some time last month.  It has just stayed with and in me ever since. 🙂

My words to you:

Be encouraged that your situation is not your destiny but rather your testimony!

God is in control even though the storm you’re going through feels rough.  Remember, God is the creator of ALL things.  It is the enemy’s desire to see the storm  destroy you but God will turn it around for your good. He won’t let it destroy you because it will be used to strengthen you and help you grow.

God is in control even though the enemy may have whispered in your ear, “give up, you’re never going to make it.”  The enemy is a liar.  It is not over, until God says it is. Seek God, place your trust in Him and He WILL deliver you!

If you are going to give life to something and magnify anything – let God be that thing you exalt and not your problems or your fears. When you do He WILL fight your battles.

Start thanking God for the victory over your problems. Thank God for the opportunities He is bringing your way.  Thank God for the healing He has sent to your body.  Thank God for not giving up on you. 2018 can be your year of breakthroughs if you will put your faith not in what you see with your eyes but in the God that has brought you this far and can do so much more. I don’t know about you but I declare and decree that 2018 will be better than 2017.

I pray O Lord that this post has encouraged someone today and that it will have blessed them in some way.  God is the answer so stop worrying about the giants in your life.  Be like David and call upon God to help you bring that ‘Goliath’ in your life down.

Thank you for making this blog one of your stops on this journey called life.

Have a great weekend and remember God loves you more than you know. 🙂

Health and Wellness Fridays: The Beauty, Simplicity and Power of Giving Thanks

Welcome back to Health and Wellness Fridays! Glory to God for this new day, for we have another opportunity to give thanks and to pray for those we love, who love us and who need love.

I hope that today finds you in good spirits. If you’re not,  I ask the Holy Spirit to comfort you and lift you up by the end of this post. 🙂

Many times in life, we get distracted and consumed by all the things that are not going well in our lives or our bodies.  We might find ourselves constantly complaining about all the stuff that’s not right, ignoring the stuff that is.

I believe that on our journey to better health and wellness that it is important to give thanks in the midst of the challenges, the pain, the discomfort even the illness.  The thing is, when we focus specifically on the things that are troubling us we miss the beauty and the joy to be gained from the things that we have been blessed with.

Praise God in spite of your pain.  As I write this post, I am not free from my pain or discomfort yet. However, I refuse to allow myself to let my pain stop me from enjoying and seeing the beauty and the blessings that exist in and around my life.  By God’s grace, my faith and my prayers I will continue to trust that God WILL take all that is wrong and make it right.

So, rather than focus on what hurts, I choose to give thanks for what does not hurt and what I am able to do in spite of the discomfort. I choose to thank God for the healing He has delivered to my body. That’s right, I spoke healing into my situation and you should too – put YOUR faith to work! 😉

Each day, I give Him thanks for life.  I thank Him for ALL that I am able to do. For I am able to walk, care for my kids, write this post, and do so much more. Giving thanks allows us to not lose sight of the other things we need to be grateful for.  Being able to get up and walk to the bathroom may seem insignificant right now but God forbid the day we can’t do it on our own we would surely miss that independence.

I’m not telling you that your pain is not real because for many it is very real.  However, what I am suggesting is that we choose to look beyond what and how we feel and give God the praise anyway; honour Him anyway; give Him the glory anyway. For ALL the good He is doing and has done in our lives. Nothing is too small to show gratitude for. Give God the praise and let your loved one know how grateful you are for them and how much they mean to you.  It feels good to make someone else feel good – that is the beauty of it.

God is not only going to restore and bring healing to our bodies but our relationships, our finances and any other area of our lives that need it. We should never take God or the people He has placed in our lives for granted.  We should never take our lives for granted even though the challenges may seem many.  The truth is we ALL have so much to be grateful for – that is the simplicity of it.

Health and wellness therefore goes beyond just our diet, exercise and adequate sleep. It requires us to look at how much attention and weight we put on the things that hurt us and how this emphasis can negatively affect our view of all the other areas of our lives.  While we work towards a better us, we need to look past what and how we feel and be grateful for what we have no matter how chaotic and problematic our lives may seem.

There is always someone worse off that you. Trust me, you don’t want their issues nor do you want to walk a minute in their shoes.  Thank God for your life and choose to work through your pain and trials. Praise His name for the victory He is bringing your way. This is the power of it!

Have a wonderful day and an amazing weekend. 🙂

Impossible, I think not!

Greetings to all of you on this beautiful Thursday morning.  I trust that God has smiled on you this morning with the breath of life; giving you all that you need to not only be an overcomer but a conqueror of all the obstacles before you.

Do not be discouraged by what is before you. The God we serve is GREAT. He is MIGHTY and He can do the IMPOSSIBLE.  He is the Living GOD.  With Him in our corner, we can do the impossible. Trust in Him, believe His word, seek Him and He will show you things you could never dream.

achieve-1822503__340

As you go through life, don’t focus on your problems, don’t focus on how big your challenges seem.  Instead, choose to focus on how amazing, wonderful and powerful our God is and believe that our problems are not too great for him. Faith in Jesus is ALL we need. Don’t give up on Him because He won’t give up on you.

Remember this,

To win we must first overcome.

To overcome we must learn to persevere.

To persevere we need Jesus Christ.

Because with Jesus we CAN do ALL things.

Have a great day. 🙂

Health and Wellness Fridays: Importance of Sleep

Thank God it is Friday! Although every day we get to walk the earth is a blessing, there is just something extra special about Fridays. 🙂  I hope you all have a great day and a wonderful weekend.

The National Sleep Foundation (NSF) has given the undermentioned guideline for appropriate sleep durations for specific age groups below:

  • Newborns (0 to 3 months): 14 to 17 hours each day
  • Infants (4 to 11 months): 12 to 15 hours
  • Toddlers (1 to 2 years): 11 to 14 hours
  • Preschoolers (3 to 5 years): 10 to 13 hours
  • School-age children (6 to 13 years): 9 to 11 hours
  • Teenagers (14 to 17 years): 8 to 10 hours
  • Adults (18 to 64 years): 7 to 9 hours
  • Older adults (over 65 years): 7 to 8 hours

However, for many of us, sleep feels like a stranger to us because we just aren’t getting nearly enough of it.   Today, we’ll examine why sleep is important and how lack of sleep can harm us.

What is sleep?

Sleep refers to the condition that occurs when the mind and body is at rest.  During this state all voluntary movements and full consciousness are temporarily suspended.

What can cause sleep loss?

There are many factors that can contribute to lack of sleep some include:

  • Family obligations
  • Exam preparations (where you’re up burning the midnight oil),
  • Sleep disorder
  • Demanding job
  • Type of job (shift work)
  • Excessive gaming
  • Obstructive Sleep Apnea
  • Feelings of stress
  • Hormone imbalances
  • Chronic illness
  • Depression

Some possible consequences of lack of sleep include:

Some possible benefits of sleep include:

Sleep therefore, is more than just the body needing to rest.  Sleep allows for restoration, healing and balance.  It is literally, the body’s reset and refresh buttons.

However, it should be noted that although too little sleep can be harmful to health, too much sleep can also be just as damaging.  Some side effects of over sleeping include: higher risk for heart disease, more likely to struggle with weight issues, may develop diabetes, trouble concentrating and even increased risk of dying prematurely although no specific correlation has been determined.

Going forward, we should not simply see sleep as an option on your To- Do-List but make it a priority.  Of course, keeping in mind that it is not something that should be regularly abused by taking more than we need. We need to strive for balance and use the sleep guide above to help us and those we love get the rest that we need.  Adequate sleep could mean the difference between a healthy, happy life and an unhealthy and unhappy one.

Good health and overall wellness is not just limited to good nutrition and exercise but clearly our sleeping patterns as well.

Have a wonderful day and an amazing weekend. Don’t forget to get enough sleep. 🙂

God bless each of you.

Run Your Own Race

start-1590051__340

Life is often viewed as a race and I think that’s because we’re always looking at how well those around us seem to be doing when compared to us.  When we do this, we often neglect the beauty and the blessings going on within our own lives that we should be grateful for.

The truth is, how well we do in our own race called life is dependent on how well we handle the challenges and the lessons along the way.

Now ask yourself this:

  • How high am I prepared to jump over my hurdles to get to my destination?
  • How badly do I want to see my dreams come through?
  • What or who am I prepared to let go of to move forward into my destiny?

Based on your answers to those questions.  Here are some things we would need to do to start running our own races more effectively.

1. Seek to align our lives with the word of God. When we seek God’s word and try to apply it to our lives amazing things happen. We experience improvement in our relationships, business, workplace, our kids, our health, our thinking and behaviour as well as our finances.  God’s word provides guidance, understanding, breakthroughs, wisdom and peace.

2. Take control of our thoughts. We can do this if we stop worrying about the race ahead of us and just tackle it one hurdle at a time.

3. Focus on the race in front of you. Stop focusing on the race the other runners are running.

4. Magnify our strengths and work on our weaknesses. Stop comparing our race to the race other runners are in.

5. Stop complaining. Recognize that each race is different just as each runner is different. Each runner and race has its own challenges so count your blessings.

6. Recognize and understand that our success or failure in our race is based on the reconditioning of our mind. We have to set a right attitude, build and use a vocabulary that is full of positivity.

7. Recognize that what we choose to put our trust and faith in affects our outcome.

8. Choose to see the beauty and opportunity in it rather than the obstacles.

9. Learn to ignore and distance ourselves from negative people. Don’t allow their noise to distract or discourage you.

10. Lastly, recognizing that falling from time to time is part of the process and is therefore normal.  Remember, the real winners at the end of the race would be those individuals who got back up and kept running till the very end.

No matter what your race track in life looks like, trust that God is in control. Understand that all you need to do is tap into His strength and not your own to finish the race.

Like a race car on the track when it stops for the pit crew to make sure everything is in order.   We have a pit crew there for us also. God the Father, Jesus Christ His Son and the Holy Spirit. We’re not alone in our race although it may sometimes feel like that.

God is always there cheering us on every step of the way. We have to merely ask for His intervention and hand control of the steering wheel of our lives over to Him.

We want God to just get us to the finish line without having to stop, learn, fight or overcome anything.  God loves us far too much for that.  He wants us to grow and overcome our weaknesses.  He will hold our hand while we learn, lift us up when we fall but we have to still do some of the work.

So run your own race and don’t focus on anyone else. Trust your heavenly pit crew to see you through.  God wants to help us in every area of our lives but we have to ask for His help which is the easy part.   The challenge comes when we have to let go of the steering wheel of our lives and sit back.  When we learn this, something amazing happens – we see life in a whole new way.

So trust Him to see you through to the end. As you run your race and I run mine let us make every effort to learn, grow and enjoy the good that is in our lives. When the challenges come just say,” Lord, I know you got this!

Thank you for making this blog one of your stops in this journey called life.

Have an amazing weekend! 🙂

Never Too Late

No matter how many times you’ve failed before.  No matter how many times you’ve talked yourself out of your own success.  No matter how many times others have tried to block or hinder your progress.    It’s never too late to turn your life around.

Let us be like a waterfall constantly moving and flowing never stagnant.  Only in this motion would we continue to grow.

Fear, self-doubt and negativity can have us feeling like there is no hope for a brighter tomorrow.   Don’t sit by any longer accepting that is just how it is or how it is going to be.  Reject those feelings and thoughts.

  • Look around you, see and BELIEVE that you CAN be MORE than who you SEE in the mirror.
  • You ARE more than what people SAY about you.
  • If you look deep within yourself, I am sure you CAN almost FEEL in your CORE that you ARE so much more.

Aren’t you curious to find out just how special and amazing you are? 🙂   The contribution YOU have to make in this world is important! Stop denying yourself the opportunity to uncover the real you or your purpose.  Don’t deny the world of your giftIt’s never too late.

Get up and go after your passion or your dream.  Marching in one place will get us nowhere.  Step by step, one day at a time we WILL overcome our challenges and discover who we ARE meant to BE and what we are here to DO.

Some people leave this world never learning what their purpose was in life, never achieving or pursuing their passion.  I don’t want to leave this world without positively impacting the lives of those I’m fortunate to reach.  I don’t want to pass through this world like a flash of light but rather leave behind memories and words that shine brighter than the sun.

Existing in this world is not enough, it is time to start living in it.  It’s never too late.

As always, thank you for making this blog one of your stops in this journey called life. 🙂

Farewell and Thank You 2017

design-2711676__340

Today is the 31st of December, officially the last day of 2017 and I just wanted to give thanks for the ALL that I endured, learned and achieved over the last few months.

2017 without a doubt had its challenging moments for the majority of the year right up to June to be exact.  However, I refused to lose faith and hope and believed with all my being that things just had to get better.

Giving up was just not an option I could afford. My efforts to improve my situation just seemed to never be enough so I turned to God.  I got to a point where I believed only a miracle could resolve all of my problems.  I prayed and prayed and declared over my life that this year was going to be the beginning of a new chapter, a better and brighter chapter of my life and ALL that was holding me back would be no more.

And you know what, God delivered me and my family from the constraints, obstacles and limitations that seemed to plague us for years.  He gave us a clean and fresh slate. No we didn’t win the lottery but honestly I prayed that we would but God had different  plans for us.  I’m just as satisfied with the alternative.

2017 has given me so much to be grateful for.

  1. I started my very own blog on January 31st 2017 titled livingvsexisting.com.  This has given me much joy and greater purpose in my life.
  2. God created a way out of financial debt when I could not see any.   With God nothing is impossible.  No problem is too big or too small for Him. Trust me. 🙂
  3. God through his grace has blessed my family with a new vehicle.
  4. God brought me to this blogging community and gifted me with the pleasure of meeting and learning from some very amazing, talented and special people who I would probably not have met if I had not taken that step on January 31st 2017 to join.
  5. God has blessed my family with so much this year after years and years of obstacles, challenges and limitations that at some points I thought he had forgotten about us.  I realize now that he needed us to endure and work through the pain and not lose faith and hope.  He was testing our commitment to the process and ultimately to Him.
  6. The strength and power that comes from having a strong support system encouraging and cheering for your success.  My family has definitely been that force in my life and for them I am forever grateful.
  7. God’s protection throughout the year not only over myself but each and every member of my family and our dwellings.  His precious blood, favour and mercy has kept the enemy at bay and we are truly grateful for this.
  8. The woman who I am becoming. 🙂
  9. My writing skills and material has improved and grown so much in this time.
  10. The wisdom and knowledge that I have acquired that has helped to not only improve my life but the lives of those who read my posts.
  11. The support and encouragement I have received from this blogging community as well as other supporters of my blog.  I am genuinely thankful for each of you. May God continue to bless you all.
  12. Seeing God’s favour at work in my life.

You see my friends no matter how challenging 2017 was I’ve learnt that we have to trust in the bigger picture.  The challenging moments are meant to prepare us for what is to come.  You need to persevere!  Sometimes in order to do that we need to look past the difficulty and look towards a brighter and better future. Don’t see yourself as stuck but rather as passing through.

As we leave 2017 behind let us leave the negative experiences behind choosing to take with us the lessons learnt along the way and the happy moments we’ve had.

May 2018 be everything God wants for you and more. God has not forgotten about you.  Trust in Him and He WILL see you through.

Have a wonderful day. Happy New Year in advance from my family to yours.
