Music Reflection Mondays #14

Hello and welcome back to Music Reflection Mondays!

How was your day?  I know some of us are currently trying to forget and just unwind hoping for a better day tomorrow.  That’s cool too!

Tonight, I feel like doing a poem.  Hope you like it.

Can you hear the beat?

Can you feel the rhythm pulsing through your feet?

What a tantalizing treat!

No control, as the music makes you move your feet

Like sugar it can be sweet

Can you hear the beat?

Do you see how your arms and hips move from left to right?

No more resisting, the music is too tempting

So what if everyone is looking?

It doesn’t matter, we’re doing our own thing 🙂

Music is there for our enjoyment

So if you’re feeling sad and blue

A little music might get you through

I hope by now, you know what you have to do

Can you hear the beat?

Listen closely,

As you close your eyes

And settle your fears

Let the music temporarily melts away your cares

Thanks for stopping by.  Have a great night and a wonderful week.

Music Reflection Mondays #8

Monday night greetings to you all! 🙂 I came back from my 3 nights getaway late yesterday afternoon.  We stayed at the Salybia Nature Resort & Spa which is on the island situated in Salybia Village.

It was the first time for most of my family. They had a great time.  My sister and I got some much-needed rest.  We took the all-inclusive package so all we had to do was show up. 🙂  I feel rested and revived. It’s good to take time out from it all and just relax.  I’ll  share some pictures from that getaway in a later post so look out for that.

Tonight, on Music Reflection Mondays I’m going to be sharing with you some Latin artistes who through their music have seduced us with the rhythm and beat of their music.   Here are a few of my favourites below.

  • Gipsy Kings
  • Carlos Santana
  • Enrique Iglesias – Bailando featuring Descemer Bueno & Gente de Zona
  • Los Del Rio – La Macarena

I would love to know.  Thanks for stopping by. 🙂

Music Reflection Mondays

Come Travel With Me was a new segment I wanted to introduce to you guys today but I was inspired to do something else.  I call it, Music Reflection Mondays since music was the inspiration for this piece.

In some of my less than terrific moments in my life there were various singers who through their music helped me cope during some difficult times, gave me clarity, joy, peace of mind even helped me release some of the anger I felt in a healthy way. They made me feel better.

Natalie Imbruglia

Natalie Imbruglia is one of those singers. She was there at a time in my early teenage years when I was very angry and depressed.  Her song Torn touched me in a special way.  I felt as though she had heard me and was singing exactly how I felt. I played and replayed that song over and over until I got what I needed from it.  What did I get?

I eventually realized that I did not want to be “torn” anymore I wanted to be whole and happy. I chose to forgive because it was the only way I could move forward.  It took tremendous courage and strength but I did it.

From my teenage years to present, I can honestly say that the healing power of music to the mind is powerful and should definitely be explored. Of course, I’m just suggesting it as a form of therapy, to relax and unwind and clear your mind.  It is definitely a pick me upper and can be a stress reliever if you choose the right type of music and artiste that appeals to you.

Music Reflection Mondays is not going to be about me bringing my personal preferences to you but rather about us sharing with each other – music and artistes that we love.  I am open to discovering someone new.  Are you? 🙂

There are so many to choose from.  We should never limit ourselves to just one thing. It hinders our growth and limits our learning.  My taste in music is wide from different periods both past and present. I’ve found that variety is good and it works for me.

Music preferences vary and that’s cool that we all have different taste. Thankfully, because of that we get amazing artistes creating music and songs that will be forever etched in our minds and hearts.

I think that no matter our preferences we all can agree that music has the power to provoke feelings and emotions some good and some bad.   How we choose to use this often overlooked medium can make a big difference in how we feel, heal and cope with various things in our lives.

John Legend

John Legend is amazing!  Let’s just say, that when he came out with his music it was perfect timing for all I was dealing with in my life. He has been there for me both in the good and bad times.   I had his CD in my car for months just playing it over and over. The kids even learned a few songs. 🙂 I have more than one favourite when it comes to him but some that stand out are All of me, Stay with You, Used to Love You, Love Me Now and When It’s Cold Outside.  Do you have any favourites from him?

From oldies to present day the appeal of music remains.   There are some singers and bands that have songs that still make you tear up, dance your socks off when you hear it or just take you back to a different time in your life almost like a time machine. Do you agree?

Do you have a singer, musician or band that provided you with comfort when you needed it most?  Please share. 🙂

Who are your three all-time favourites singers or groups?

I look forward to seeing some of your favourites below.  Have a great week. See you guys next week as we continue Music Reflection Mondays.

Hope you enjoyed it.
