Welcome back to Health and Wellness Fridays!

To start the New Year off right I must first thank God for blessing me to see another year.  Thank you Heavenly Father for already equipping me with the strength, patience, wisdom, understanding, knowledge and discipline needed to be successful in all that I’ve set out to do and may it all be pleasing to you.  In Jesus name I pray and give thanks. Amen!  🙂

Today, I would like to set the tone for the next few months as it relates to improving my health and overall well-being.  It is my hope that you will find these points useful as you chart your own course towards a healthier and happier you.

Here are some points that I have decided to pay special attention to as I put 2018 into perspective especially as it relates to the way forward for my overall health and wellness and ultimately my life.

Health and wellness is a process and therefore that means through our actions and decisions – we are living this conscious choice daily.

How do I go about doing that?

  1. Understanding that being a healthier me starts from within and looks at not only how I treat and care for my body but my mind and spirit as well.  It is a holistic approach to living that I never truly understood or appreciated until now.
  2. Health and wellness does not speak to only what’s going on inside of me but in my environment as well.  It includes the people in my life and all the other factors that directly and indirectly have an impact on my well-being.
  3. Taking responsibility for what I’m doing and not doing to make my life better.
  4. Taking immediate action towards improving the areas I’m weak in or struggle with.
  5. Recognizing that I am human and therefore I will not execute every single day without errors, weaknesses or setbacks and that’s okay.
  6. Not giving up on myself or my desire to become a healthier and happier me. 🙂
  7. Accepting and believing that I am truly worth it.

Why would 2018 be any different from any other year?

  1. In God I’ll put my trust and faith and call on Him when I feel weak and praise His name when I feel strong. This point is first for reason.  Start each day by talking and praying to God.  He will give you the strength to do the impossible.
  2. I AM worth the sacrifice, time, effort, love, joy and happiness that this year can bring.  If I open up myself to receive and go after it.
  3. I AM worth the temporary discomfort that changing and breaking old habits would bring.
  4. I understand that MY betterment WILL only come if I work towards it.
  5. I AM mentally preparing my mind, body and spirit to DO the work that only I can do.
  6. I know that I am NOT the only person in the world struggling with something.
  7. It IS my time to get up and do MORE to improve my own life.
  8. My success has always been mine for the taking!

Whatever we desire for our health and overall well-being for 2018 and beyond WE must be prepared to make some changes and some of that change MUST start within us.  If, we are to be successful in achieving our goals for better and happier lives we must do the work that is needed at our very CORE.  There is no escaping it.

For it is our fears, self-doubt, negativity, skepticism, laziness and sometimes our willingness to just settle right where we are that has kept us exactly where we are.  2018 will be different because WE WILL make it different. One day and one step at a time.

Thank you for making this blog one of your stops in this journey called life.

Have a wonderful weekend. 🙂

Top 12 tips for a Successful and Productive 2018

Welcome back!  I trust that your Christmas celebrations went well.  We’ve all opened our gifts, shared a few laughs and got a little time to hopefully reflect on how truly blessed we’ve been in 2017.

As you all know, the approach of the New Year 2018 draws nearer and nearer with each day and this is typically the time when we make ‘promises’ to ourselves and sometimes others about what we’re doing to do differently and what we’re hoping to change.

I propose that we take a different approach to this age-old practice and instead of making promises aka  resolutions let’s make some proactive decisionsThe truth is a promise provides mental comfort but proactive decision-making can provide actual results.

So how are we going to do this?  Let’s take a look.

  1. For starters, let’s not set unrealistic expectations.  It’s not fair to ourselves when we set unrealistic expectations. Do yourself a favour PUSH yourself but don’t BREAK yourself.
  2. List the areas of our lives we want to improve on  be it our health, finances, relationships, jobs, etc.
  3. Make a plan for each area that actively treats with the areas of our lives we want to see blossom or transform.  List step by step how we will go about this transformation.  Example, for health a plan we may consider reviewing our eating habits, getting active through exercise or starting a sport, getting a medical checkup.  This may require doing some research and implementing real change in how we currently care for our bodies.
  4. We have to be willing to do the work to get the results we want.  Change is never easy but it is often necessary for us to improve and foster greater happiness in our lives.
  5. Be your own cheerleader.  Don’t rely solely on the support of others for your success.  You have to want to succeed for yourself.  It is this burning desire that  will push you to succeed even when things around you change.
  6. Stick with the plan. We may get distracted from time to time and may even fall off the wagon completely.  Don’t waste time feeling guilty.  Make a decision from now not a promise that YOU WILL not accept failure this time.  YOU WILL get back on track and make things right not because of a promise you made but rather because YOU ARE worth it!
  7. Distance yourself from negativity – that includes negative people and negative thinking. These are some common elements to failure. Negativity is not cheering for our success the sooner we can see that and take corrective action our lives can turn around for the better.
  8. Be flexible.  We must be willing to adapt to whatever change may occur.  We may meet and exceed our goal likewise we may have to alter or modify certain aspects of it to get the best outcome.  Be open-minded about the process. Nothing is set in stone.  The only unbreakable aspect of this must be our determination to see this through. 🙂
  9. Believe in yourself and your ability to do this.
  10. Don’t allow your fears to keep you stuck in the past.  In 2018, take those fears and use them as fuel for your success.
  11. Acknowledge your achievements no matter how small and reward yourself for a job well done.
  12. Lastly, never give up! For when we do, we truly fail.

A special thank you to each of you who read and support my blog. May 2018 bring us fresh ideas, clarity of mind and spirit, prosperity, joy, love, good health and happiness. May wisdom and understanding never be a stranger in our lives.

Fuel Your Fire To Succeed

Do you know what Oprah Winfrey, Stephen King, Richard Branson, Thomas Edison, Jay-Z and Steven Spielberg have in common? Let’s get to know them a little better first.

Oprah Winfrey – was repeatedly molested as a child. She ran away from home. She in her early teenage years gave birth to a baby boy who unfortunately died.  Although forced to endure unimaginable circumstances in her early childhood, Winfrey persevered.   She excelled as an honour student and eventually secured a full scholarship to college.  She is now one of the most successful and richest people in the world today.  According the Forbes, Winfrey is worth an estimated $3 billion.

Stephen King – had his first novel “Carrie” rejected 30 times by publishing houses. His wife encouraged him to try one more time and he was eventually able to get it published.   King sold over 350 million copies and even had it made into motion pictures.  According the The Richest, he is worth an estimated $400 million.

Richard Branson – despite the difficulties and challenges posed by his acknowledged dyslexia, Branson used his personality and business talents to become the success he is today. According to Forbes, Branson is worth an estimated $5.1 billion.

Thomas Edison – failed a number of times before successfully creating the lightbulb.  The exact number of tries has been debated but some say as much as 10,000 attempts. Can you imagine? His perseverance paid off and bought us not only the lightbulb but the phonograph as well.

Jay-Z -had big dreams to make it big as a rapper. Unfortunately, he had difficulty convincing record labels to sign him. This however, did not deter him in fact, he persevered and now owns his own record label.  Jay-Z is not just a rapper but a businessman who has investments in clothing lines, real estate, sports teams, record labels, and more.  According to Forbes, his estimated worth was $610 million in 2016.

Steven Spielberg – was rejected twice from the University of Southern California (USC).  Spielberg did not allow this rejection to crush his dreams. He went on to attend California State University in Long Beach.  USC eventually awarded him a honorary degree in 1994 and he even became a trustee of the university in 1996.  According to Forbes, Spielberg is worth an estimated $3.7 billion.

The commonality among these people was a burning desire to move pass the obstacles in their lives.  They did not allow a scarred childhood, disappointment or repeated rejection to prevent them from achieving the success they wanted for themselves.  They all chose to look beyond their circumstances and worked hard to secure a better life for themselves.

They are just a small number of successful people who overcame obstacles in their lives to be where they are today.  Some other people who persevered and came out on top are: Bill Gates, Albert Einstein, Jim Carrey, Benjamin Franklin, Henry Ford, Walt Disney and Sir James Dyson just to name a few.

They are proof that no matter how bad things might look in the moment; no matter how many attempts we might have to make to get it right – we can overcome the obstacles.  We just have to want it bad enough and we must work for it.

Our past will always remind us where we came from.  Some people however, choose to use their past as an excuse; while others may try to use your past against you or  as a means to discourage you.  Let us instead choose to be the exception – let us use our past as a motivator to propel us into greatness.

Don’t allow any negativity from the past or current situations to keep you from achieving your dreams.  Although our past may influence some aspects of our future it does not control it. We do!

Whenever, you feel like giving up or you feel defeated remember some of these people we looked at today and all the obstacles and failures they had to overcome to make it. Never give up on yourself! Let their stories give you hope and fuel your fire to succeed.

Thanks for stopping by.  🙂
