Never Too Late

No matter how many times you’ve failed before.  No matter how many times you’ve talked yourself out of your own success.  No matter how many times others have tried to block or hinder your progress.    It’s never too late to turn your life around.

Let us be like a waterfall constantly moving and flowing never stagnant.  Only in this motion would we continue to grow.

Fear, self-doubt and negativity can have us feeling like there is no hope for a brighter tomorrow.   Don’t sit by any longer accepting that is just how it is or how it is going to be.  Reject those feelings and thoughts.

  • Look around you, see and BELIEVE that you CAN be MORE than who you SEE in the mirror.
  • You ARE more than what people SAY about you.
  • If you look deep within yourself, I am sure you CAN almost FEEL in your CORE that you ARE so much more.

Aren’t you curious to find out just how special and amazing you are? 🙂   The contribution YOU have to make in this world is important! Stop denying yourself the opportunity to uncover the real you or your purpose.  Don’t deny the world of your giftIt’s never too late.

Get up and go after your passion or your dream.  Marching in one place will get us nowhere.  Step by step, one day at a time we WILL overcome our challenges and discover who we ARE meant to BE and what we are here to DO.

Some people leave this world never learning what their purpose was in life, never achieving or pursuing their passion.  I don’t want to leave this world without positively impacting the lives of those I’m fortunate to reach.  I don’t want to pass through this world like a flash of light but rather leave behind memories and words that shine brighter than the sun.

Existing in this world is not enough, it is time to start living in it.  It’s never too late.

As always, thank you for making this blog one of your stops in this journey called life. 🙂

Health and Wellness Fridays – Create a Happier and Healthier US

Welcome back to Health and Wellness Fridays!  Today I’m keeping it really simple.  With the upcoming closure of one chapter of our lives to hopefully start another I thought it fitting to write something a little different.

This Health and Wellness Fridays segment was created out of a desire to be a healthier and happier me while sharing the knowledge and information gathered with others in the process.  “Knowledge is power”.  However, what we choose to do with that knowledge is where the real power comes from.

This segment has brought me so much joy and knowledge.  I know from the feedback that I get that it is also appreciated by so many of you and I am truly grateful that you take time to read it.

As we move closer to 2018, I have big plans for my life as do so many of you.   The thing is guys, if we don’t start taking better care of ourselves that is, mental health, physical health and emotional health – how good would any of our plans, hopes and dreams be to us or our families?

Make a proactive decision today starting in 2017 to DO RIGHT by YOURSELF!  Start with small changes or improvements but START.

I don’t have all the answers.  I don’t live a life free from challenges and obstacles.  I’m like many of you, wanting and desiring better but sometimes we let our comfort get in the way – making taking ACTION seem like a lot of work.  Aren’t we worth that investment of effort, time and money?  I believe we ARE worth it and it is time we do more about it.

We don’t need to be anybody’s vision of perfect. We just need to develop and foster within ourselves a passion and love for self that drives us to want and actively pursue a better, stronger and healthier version of ourselves.

From today onward, NO LONGER will we allow self-doubt, fear, negative people, negative thinking, lack of finances and excuses to hold us back from improving various aspects of our health and ultimately our lives.  It’s time to get creative and resourceful to think and work ourselves into a better way of living. 🙂

Make that decision with me today to seriously go after that better and healthier life that we deserve and I have no doubt that happiness will follow.

I wish us all good health, happiness, prosperity and clarity of mind and spirit.

Best wishes to you and your families today, tomorrow and for the New Year 2018. 🙂

As always, thank you for your continued support.

It’s Time…

hourglass-1875812__340

It’s time and you know it!

You know the feeling but you can’t quite explain it

That feeling you get when you’ve reached your limit

That feeling that empowers you

But you let your second thoughts crowd out what you should do

Don’t look at me like that, you know I’m talking to YOU 🙂

It’s time so NO more delaying

We’ve been going round and round doing the same things

Then wondering why we can’t see any change

Constantly turning the same pages in our lives over and over

Haven’t you noticed we’re getting older?

old-man-2803645__340

It’s time to make our move

We’re done procrastinating about what we’re going to do

It’s time to get ACTIVE and be PROACTIVE

In the things that we want and need to do

We have to stand up and start truly walking in our own shoes

We don’t have time to sit singing the blues

It’s time so you choose

Standing still we have so much to lose

So make this promise to yourself

No more sitting idly by on the shelf

If you don’t start now you’ll never forgive yourself.

human-2829510__340

If not now, then when?

Who knows how or when it will all end?

To pursue your dream – you don’t have to be a king or queen

Besides, only in trying would you have seen

How possibly different your life could have been.

Think about it, maybe it’s time!

Tired of all the ‘would have’ and ‘could have’ thoughts. The reality is, in life there comes a time when we just have to stop making excuses for ourselves and others and just meaningfully go after what we claim to want and desire.

Anything worth getting requires effort and hard work.

Thank you for stopping by.  Make today a great one. 🙂

Expectation

dream-2063053_960_720

Expectation without action is just a desire or a dream.

For expectations to become reality – effort, persistence and hard work MUST step forward.

So let’s try PUSHING the door and if that does not work we’ll try PULLING it!  Either way standing still will get us NOTHING.

Boldly pursue your dream if that will make you truly happy.  Whatever you choose to do,  don’t waste time standing by the door hoping and waiting for someone else to allow you entry.  They would probably be too busy chasing their own dreams to help you find YOURS.

The good news is, you have a DREAM and that is more than some people can say. All you need to do now is actively see where this desire or passion will take YOU. 🙂 So be proactive rather than reactive.

Make this weekend a great one! Thank you for stopping by. 🙂

Be Careful What You Ask For!

Be careful what you ask for, you just might get.

Life has a funny way of giving us what we want just not always in the way we want it.

  • Sometimes we experience love through loss.  In other moments through loss we find love.
  • Sometimes only through overcoming our failure can acquire success.  Other times when we acquire success this can result in our failure.

Over the years I’ve learnt that life is something that we cannot control. However, we do have the power to determine how life events affect and impact our lives.

We can choose to learn from them gaining wisdom, knowledge and strength to move forward or we can allow ourselves to be swallowed up by the experience becoming lost but not forgotten.

Life can be complicated at times but there are times when it can be really simple. Let us choose us to make the most and best use of it.

Thanks for stopping by. Make today a great one!

Fuel Your Fire To Succeed

Do you know what Oprah Winfrey, Stephen King, Richard Branson, Thomas Edison, Jay-Z and Steven Spielberg have in common? Let’s get to know them a little better first.

Oprah Winfrey – was repeatedly molested as a child. She ran away from home. She in her early teenage years gave birth to a baby boy who unfortunately died.  Although forced to endure unimaginable circumstances in her early childhood, Winfrey persevered.   She excelled as an honour student and eventually secured a full scholarship to college.  She is now one of the most successful and richest people in the world today.  According the Forbes, Winfrey is worth an estimated $3 billion.

Stephen King – had his first novel “Carrie” rejected 30 times by publishing houses. His wife encouraged him to try one more time and he was eventually able to get it published.   King sold over 350 million copies and even had it made into motion pictures.  According the The Richest, he is worth an estimated $400 million.

Richard Branson – despite the difficulties and challenges posed by his acknowledged dyslexia, Branson used his personality and business talents to become the success he is today. According to Forbes, Branson is worth an estimated $5.1 billion.

Thomas Edison – failed a number of times before successfully creating the lightbulb.  The exact number of tries has been debated but some say as much as 10,000 attempts. Can you imagine? His perseverance paid off and bought us not only the lightbulb but the phonograph as well.

Jay-Z -had big dreams to make it big as a rapper. Unfortunately, he had difficulty convincing record labels to sign him. This however, did not deter him in fact, he persevered and now owns his own record label.  Jay-Z is not just a rapper but a businessman who has investments in clothing lines, real estate, sports teams, record labels, and more.  According to Forbes, his estimated worth was $610 million in 2016.

Steven Spielberg – was rejected twice from the University of Southern California (USC).  Spielberg did not allow this rejection to crush his dreams. He went on to attend California State University in Long Beach.  USC eventually awarded him a honorary degree in 1994 and he even became a trustee of the university in 1996.  According to Forbes, Spielberg is worth an estimated $3.7 billion.

The commonality among these people was a burning desire to move pass the obstacles in their lives.  They did not allow a scarred childhood, disappointment or repeated rejection to prevent them from achieving the success they wanted for themselves.  They all chose to look beyond their circumstances and worked hard to secure a better life for themselves.

They are just a small number of successful people who overcame obstacles in their lives to be where they are today.  Some other people who persevered and came out on top are: Bill Gates, Albert Einstein, Jim Carrey, Benjamin Franklin, Henry Ford, Walt Disney and Sir James Dyson just to name a few.

They are proof that no matter how bad things might look in the moment; no matter how many attempts we might have to make to get it right – we can overcome the obstacles.  We just have to want it bad enough and we must work for it.

Our past will always remind us where we came from.  Some people however, choose to use their past as an excuse; while others may try to use your past against you or  as a means to discourage you.  Let us instead choose to be the exception – let us use our past as a motivator to propel us into greatness.

Don’t allow any negativity from the past or current situations to keep you from achieving your dreams.  Although our past may influence some aspects of our future it does not control it. We do!

Whenever, you feel like giving up or you feel defeated remember some of these people we looked at today and all the obstacles and failures they had to overcome to make it. Never give up on yourself! Let their stories give you hope and fuel your fire to succeed.

Thanks for stopping by.  🙂

How to find your gift?

For as long as I could remember, I have always heard the term “gift” in relation to someone’s special talent or ability and wondered, what was my special gift?  What is that one thing outside of my physical attributes and personality that made me truly unique?  I never knew for sure what that special ‘thing’ was or how to find it and that sometimes left me feeling unfulfilled.

You see, despite holding various positions in different organizations over the years I could never shake the feeling that I was supposed to be doing something more with my life.  If you have ever been there or you are still trying to find yourself then you know how frustrating that can be.   I will share with you how I found my gift; some of the challenges I faced along the way and how I overcame them.

Definition – What is a gift?

When I use the term ‘gift’ here, I am referring to that unique ability or talent embedded within you that no one else can do the way you do It is what makes you – YOU! 🙂  It’s like a finger print – no one else in the world has your unique prints.  Whether that gift is singing, dancing, cooking, teaching, story telling, poetry, interior design, hair dressing or photography just to name a few – no one can execute it the way you do, no matter how hard they try.

Where does your gift come from?

Some say, that we’re born with it.  Others say that it is something you develop over time.  There is also the belief that, a ‘gift’ is a blessing from God.  I believe ALL of the above is true.

I believe that from as early as the womb we are blessed with  unique and special talents and abilities from God.  If we develop  them correctly can make us great and successful in this life.  Likewise, if the ‘gift’ is left undeveloped it could result in us feeling lost and unfulfilled in life.

This was something I struggled with for many years.  You see, I was not ready mentally and spiritually for the journey. My life was filled with all sorts of distractions such as negative and unhealthy relationships, poor view of myself and a poor attitude.  I lacked the drive and motivation to go after what I claimed I really wanted and often made a lot of excuses as to why I could not succeed.

The PROCESS –  here are some things I did  to help me through this.

  1. Freed myself from all the negative people in my life. I recognized how their contributions only held me back and decided it was time I moved on.
  2. I decided “enough is enough”.  No more self-doubt and self-pity. It was time to stand up and take an active role in shaping my happiness.
  3. I started to monitor my thoughts.  The saying “words have power” is so true especially when they are coming out of your mouth.  I was sometimes the negative voice in my head, so I told myself to “SHUT UP”.  “Starting from today, if you have nothing good to say about yourself or others just be quiet!”
  4. Improve my attitude.  Many times we often underestimate how important our attitude is to our success – not only in finding our gift but in our everyday lives as well.  To discover your gift, I’ve found that gratitude, humility, patience, positivity, determination and perseverance are key elements that we should foster to not only find our gift but develop it.
  5. I limited and removed any negative distractions.  The distractions I am referring to included: watching too much television, excessive gaming on my devices, excessive partying, hanging out with people who are constantly negative and any addictions. Don’t let your distractions continue to have control over your mind, body or spirit.  Take control of your time and you’ll take control of your life.
  6. I created a list of the things  that I ‘loved’ doing versus what I ‘liked’ doing.  These are the things that made me happiest when I was doing them.  Please note , that nothing is insignificant, trivial or unimportant, if it is something you LOVE doing, be sure to list it.
  7. I confided in someone I trusted and whose opinion I respected. Please note, that this would ideally be someone who has known you at least 5 or more years. This person should be someone who is constructive in their feedback.  If you feel you don’t have anyone, I would suggest keeping a journal.  List your thoughts, aspirations and fears.  Be your own best friend!
  8. I regularly prayed and talked to God.  God is always with you, don’t be afraid to reach out to him through prayer and he will provide the answers you need.  Ask him for guidance, strength, patience or courage whatever you feel you need and he will grant it to you.  Open your mind and don’t limit yourself to only what you can see and imagine for yourself.  THINK BIG!
  9. Don’t let FEAR of the unknown or what people might think paralyze you and keep you stuck.  I used to be concerned about what people might think about my new pursuit but when I weighed who stood to benefit the most when I succeeded – I didn’t care about those people anymore.
  10. I started believing in myself and my abilities.   We ALL have something uniquely specific to us that can ADD VALUE to the lives of others.  Explore and nurture it!
  11. I had to learn to be patient with myself. I found everything was taking too long and wondered if I would ever have my breakthrough.   I had to focus more on improving myself and my thinking and spend  less time worrying about the days that went by. Remember, it’s a process!
  12. No matter what that little ‘voice of doubt’ might chant as it sits in the corner of your brain.  Don’t ever give up!
  13. Don’t focus on what others are doing or saying.  Your success, your happiness and your future should be your primary focus. The focus of this exercise is YOU no one else.  I understand how difficult it could be at times when we look at other people lives and it seems to be so much better than ours but trust me, they have their own crap and issues that they are dealing with too.  Stay focused!
  14. Power of forgiveness.  Unforgiveness has kept me stuck for a long time and it was only through forgiving those people in my life that wronged me that I was able to really grow and find happiness.  Until I released myself from the hurt, pain and anger they caused me, I could not really move forward.  It is time to set yourself FREE, this is not about them.

Many of us go through life without purpose and direction and it does not have to be that way.  If you are tired of doing the same old, same old and you are really ready to shake off fear and go after your passion, then there is no time like the present to take action. I am happy to say that my gift is writing and helping others.  This blog makes me happy.  The feedback from my readers encourage and motivate me.

When I use my gift it does not feel like work because I enjoy doing it so much.  I don’t get tired of doing it because there is a passion and love for what I am doing.  Your gift should  benefit others – always bringing joy, pleasure and happiness when you use it. I believe once your gift meets that criteria you are on the right track.

Stay strong and keep pursuing your dreams.
