What’s Up Wednesdays #8

Happy Wednesday to you all!  How has your day or week been thus far?  I’ve been running errands all day and I’m now getting some time for myself.  I’m feeling physically exhausted but I have refreshed myself and felt the need to get into my blog as it helps me relax after a long day sometimes.

You’re probably wondering what’s new? What’s up and what’s hot? 🙂 So I won’t keep you waiting let’s get to it.

What I’m eating this week:

You probably would not believe me if I told you but I had Pizza Hut again.  No it’s not a Wednesday thing but that’s what was ordered.   Today, I had Cheesy Bread sticks, Tuscani Chicken Alfredo Pasta and a large Super Supreme (ham, pepperoni, Italian sausage, beef, onions, mushrooms, green peppers, black olives and pork). No BBQ wings this time.  Thankfully, it was not stuffed crust because the pizza itself was already stuffed. 🙂

What I’m reminiscing about:

Lately, I find myself reflecting on the days when my car was in better shape when I bought it so many years ago.  I own a Toyota Corolla and I was so proud to have purchased my first car.  It was previously owned but it was in good condition.  I loved the grey leather interior and navy blue paint job with wood grain finishes on the inside.

These days “Betsy” my car (yes, I refer to it as Betsy from time to time) is not as young and fresh as it used to be.  It needs some work done more than I care to invest at this time.  I think it maybe it’s time for an upgrade or maybe if I can find someone reliable, honest and skilled at their profession it can get a much-needed makeover.  We’ll see how it goes.

What I’m loving:

Craft, craft, craft.  We are getting good reviews from the kids and the parents about the stuff we’ve worked on so far.  Every week we’re trying to bring something new and beautiful that the kids enjoy and can also feel proud of.

Making new items out of simple everyday materials feels so rewarding. We’ve never made any of these items before so we’re all very proud. I’ve taken more pictures to share with you below.  Hope you like them as much as we do.  🙂

What I’ve been up to:

Paper butterfly – made using coloured paper which we folded and then painted the outer portions of her wings. (Her friends are incomplete but they should be joining her soon.)

6 unit Stationery holder #1 – made using toilet paper rolls which we covered in colourful paper and an empty CD case for the base.  This still has to be decorated but you get the main idea.

Front                                                             Back

Single unit Stationery holder #2 – same toilet paper rolls used but this time we added a little design to the front.

What I’m dreading:

All of my fears, ok not all, but most of my fears were realised this week with tons of running around to do and meetings to attend.  I’m hoping that the rest of the week is not as fast paced.

Truth be told although my week has been very hectic it has been very productive.   I guess that is the price we pay for progress.

What I’m working on:

Finances!  Don’t you hate how some if not most of these financial institutions have high interest rates on the money you owe them but small interest pay outs on the money you invest with them. They are winning at every turn.

I plan on getting more involved in how my resources work for me no matter how big or small.  Are you getting maximum returns on your investments?  Have you checked lately?  We should not take it for granted that everything is adding up.  Get involved and ask questions, it’s your money.

What I’m excited about:

This remains unchanged.  If anything it should be in bold. 🙂 I’m excited about getting to relax, enjoy a change of scenery and eat delicious food. 🙂

What I’m watching:

This week I’ve been cat napping more than anything else when I can. I’ve been too tired to be honest to really sit down and watch television the way I would like. Hopefully, later this week or this weekend I can pick up where I left off and finally start my Season 2 Orphan Black DVDs.  What are you watching these days? Anything interesting?

Who/ What I’m listening to:

Stand By You  and Fight Song by Rachel Platten.  I love these!

What I’m wearing/ Let’s Go Shopping:

Today, we’re going shoe shopping at Shoedazzle.com .  🙂  Let me remind you guys, I prefer sandals most days but even I have to admit there are events that call for a little more.  Here are some of my favourites.

What I’m doing this weekend:

Hopefully, some browsing and shopping for clothing and shoes for both casual and work.  I’m keeping my fingers crossed. 🙂

What I’m looking forward to the next month:

Catching up on much-needed rest.  I’m looking forward to waking up late but most of all creating some fun memories with the kids.

What else is new?

I’m going into writing territories I’ve never done before by participating in contests and blogging challenges that are not my typical style of writing content wise. I’m taking my advice and investing in myself so let’s see where it takes me. 🙂

If I’m fortunate to win that would be awesome even if I don’t win this time I’ll still take part in challenges that interest me as they push and challenge me to be a better blogger and writer.  You can visit my contributions by clicking on the links below.

Thanks so much for stopping by. Have a great night and a blessed week.

See you guys next week. 🙂

What’s Up Wednesday #7

Wednesday greetings to everyone! How was your day? Today was mostly  overcast and rainy here in sweet Trinidad and Tobago.  Hope the weather wherever you are was better.

Let me share what I’ve been up to these days. 🙂

What I’m eating this week:

I had a late lunch today.  We ordered BBQ wings, Cheesy Bread sticks, Tuscani Chicken Alfredo Pasta and a large Santa Fe (Beef and Pineapple) Pizza from Pizza Hut.  I enjoyed each bite and you can believe that I had a little of everything on my plate. 🙂

What I’m reminiscing about:

The days when I did not or rather could not drive myself around.  It was the job of the taxi or maxi driver to get me where I needed to be.  It could be very tiring having to drive yourself and everyone else where they need to be all the time.  I am however, very grateful that I do have my car because it allows me the freedom to go where I want, when I want.  🙂

What I’m loving:

This week in Summer camp we made some really neat craft items with  the kids. We made bookmarks and paper flowers.  We even decorated a glass and re-purposed it as a vase and even made a paper bag hanging decoration.

What I’ve been up to:

Bookmarks                                    Decorated glasses with paper flowers

Before/ After Plain White Paper Bag Hanging Decorations

I’ve been busy assisting with craft activities.  All of these ideas were inspired by some amazing YouTubers but we have added a few elements of our own.  I really liked how they all turned out.    We have two more weeks of camp and both the kids and I look forward to doing more activities. 🙂

What I’m dreading:

Errands, errands and more errands.  The next few weeks aside from making craft with the kids and entertaining them every so often I have my own personal checklist of things to get done over the next few weeks.

Right now, I’m trying not to look directly at it – because it is so intimidating at the moment.  That by the way, is not working because my brain is still trying to play out how best to get it all done. 🙁

What I’m working on:

Getting my finances in order!  Have you ever been so comfortable with everything that you just take it for granted that things would always be like that.  I did and I paid big time. Thankfully, after what seemed like forever things are starting to look up. 🙂

What I’m excited about:

I’m excited about getting to relax, enjoy a change of scenery and eat delicious food (not prepared by me). 🙂

What I’m watching:

It’s more like what have I watched recently.  I’ve recently seen Transformers – The Last Knight (interesting story line), Cars 3, The Mummy with Tom Cruise (definitely different from all the other Mummy movies done before) and Despicable Me 3 (interesting spin).

Overall, I enjoyed all four movies. If you have seen any of these movies you can feel free to share your thoughts on it without giving away too much to spoil it for the others who have not seen them yet.

Who/ What I’m listening to:

I’ll be honest with you, I have a mild headache so I’m here sipping some tea and trying to keep things as quiet as can be.  The only noise I am hearing is that from my fingers on the keyboard.

What I’m wearing/ Let’s Go Shopping:

Today I visited Macy’s website and here are a few things that caught my eye. 🙂

a.                b.

c.                   d.

a. Nine West Striped Pleated Halter Dress

b. Jessica Howard Medallion Lace Sheath Dress

c. Le Suit Shawl-Collar Tweed Skirt Suit

d. Tahari ASL Lace-Trim Skirt Suit

What I’m doing this weekend:

I’m not sure yet what or where I’ll end up but I’m sure my family has a lot planned for me. I’ll just prepare my mind and body to go with the flow.

What I’m looking forward to the next month:

I’m looking forward to a much slower and definitely less hectic month.  A month filled with fun, laughter, good food and wonderful memories.  🙂

What else is new?

Unfortunately, not much right now but who knows what amazing revelations the future has in store for me.  🙂

That’s a wrap for now until next week.  Make the most of each day even when it may not be going the way you like.  A simple change in your attitude or perspective can make a big difference.

Thanks for stopping by.

What’s Up Wednesday #6

It is good to be alive this Wednesday morning. Who knows how many others were not able to wake up and see their loved ones. Let us always be grateful for each day we get. Happy Wednesday greetings to you all!

The sun came out to play earlier but the clouds have move in and pushed him out-of-the-way.  The rains have come and it looks like they are here to stay. I won’t let them steal my joy because we can still have fun inside. 🙂

Let’s get into it my past, present and future. 🙂

What I’m eating this week:

I had a late breakfast today so for lunch, I’ll probably order Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) and have them deliver.   What are you having for lunch today?

What I’m reminiscing about:

This morning, I’m not really reminiscing about anything.  I’m just enjoying my few days off before we start our school camp next week.

What I’m loving:

These days I’ve been feeling the urge to create beautiful things so I’m going to act on it over the next few months.  I love creating not only for my blog but in the physical sense as well.  It brings me great joy to see the ideas come alive.  I will keep you guys posted as I develop them.

What I’ve been up to:

I’ve been busy researching, sourcing, planning, designing and blogging.  A lot of changes will be taking place in my life over the next few months.  I am uncertain about how it would all turn out but I know things can’t stay as they are so forward I go embracing the possibilities and making the decision upfront to make the most out of whatever comes.

What I’m dreading:

I was dreading the rainy season because of the uncertainty of it all and how it could affect what we would like to do at home.  These days I’m not dreading it as much.

I’ve decided to trust in the powers that BE that things will work out in the end.  After all, there is no use worrying over something I have no control over but if I did, hello! It would be sunny but not too hot because I want my workmen happy. 🙂

What I’m working on:

This remains unchanged at the moment!  I can’t go into too much now but as I line things up you will definitely be brought up to speed.  Am I still feeling overwhelmed?  A little, but it is mixed with excitement and anxiousness.  Sometimes in life we just have to stop letting our fears keep us back and just take a chance on ourselves. So forward I go.  🙂

What I’m excited about:

My 1 month vacation. 🙂

What I’m watching:

Orphan Black is on pause at the moment because I have not gotten the other Seasons yet.  I did stumble unto another series called “The Shannara Chronicles”.  It is based on the best-selling fantasy book series by Terry Brooks.

It’s basically about three heroes (Elvin Princess Amberle, Human Rover Eretria and half-elf Wil) on a quest to stop an evil Demon army from destroying the universe. I’m actually enjoying the show. I’ll definitely continue following.

Who/ What I’m listening to:

http://www.gettyimages.com

Lauren Hill – Doo –Wop (That Thing) .  I love her music! She is an amazing singer with a unique sound.

What I’m wearing/ Let’s Go Shopping:

Today, here are my favourites from Papaya Clothing.

a.                     b.

c.                     d.

What I’m doing this weekend:

The kids have asked to go to the beach so once the weather permits we’ll do that.

What I’m looking forward to the next month:

August will be the start of my vacation. You all know that’s what I’ve been anxiously waiting for. 🙂  No rushing early in the morning, no traffic to drop off and pick up the kids from school and of course, no school.  Just chilling! I look forward to it.

What else is new?

My logo! The lovely Yellowfuzzyduck over at Turtledeck offered to design a logo for my site for FREE and of course I took her up on the offer.  I love my new logo.  It was a pleasure working with her.

That’s a wrap until next week.  Make the rest of the week a great one!

Thanks for stopping by.

What’s Up Wednesdays? #5

We’ve made it to Wednesday folks, we are now halfway through the week.  Today is a very rainy day here in Trinidad but the sun still wants to come out and play.  I hope you’re all having a good week so far and that it keeps getting better.

Are you ready to get into my past, present and future? 🙂  Let’s get into it.

What I’m eating this week:

Today for lunch, I really have no plans or favourites in mind.  You ever have days like that when you just don’t know what you want to eat.  All you know is you have to get food.

I have not eaten from Subway in a really long time so maybe I’ll have a salad with Teriyaki chicken and some extras like pineapple chunks and a Thousand Island dressing on the side.  Cookies, no thanks. What yummy meal are you having for lunch?

What I’m reminiscing about:

Music from back in the day that would put a smile on face and kept me going no matter what.  Singers like Monica, TLC, Mary J. Blige, Buju Banton, Beres Hammond, Tarrus Riley and so many other amazing people.

What I’m loving:

The music.  These days I’ve been going back into the archives and just really appreciating the music that made up a lot of my life.

 What I’ve been up to:

I’ve been researching my vacation options for the kids and I.    A guesthouse, hotel or villa it doesn’t really matter once we have access to good food, a pool or beach, air condition, TV, clean and safe accommodations, we’ll be happy.

This has been a little stressful because of the late planning either the dates aren’t available or the places are fully booked.  I’m not giving up though the search for the ideal getaway continues.

 What I’m dreading:

I have my fingers and toes crossed that some house renovations we want to do don’t get thrown off because of the rainy season. I’m trusting the Lord for good, reliable workmen and great weather when that time comes.

What I’m working on:

Too many things at the moment!  I’m feeling a little overwhelmed to be honest by all that I have going on and what is to come.  All good stuff thank God so I won’t complain.  Deep breath, chin up and forward I go. 🙂

 What I’m excited about:

I won’t rub it in so I’ll use one word – VACATION!!!!!!!!! 🙂

 What I’m watching:

I recently finished Orphan Black Season 1 and they have me hooked.  I have to go and get the other seasons if not today definitely before the week is out.  The show is going really well. What are you watching these days?  I would love to add a couple more series to my list of must watch shows. Leave in comments below. 🙂

 Who/ What I’m listening to:

Right now, Justin Timberlake Can’t Stop The Feeling.  I just love that song!

 What I’m wearing/ Let’s Go Shopping:

Today, here are my favourites from NecessaryClothing.com NYC.  I found these pieces to be fun, relaxed, pretty and sexy. Hope you enjoy them as much as I do.

1.            2.

3.            4.

  1. Flower Hour Halter Romper
  2. Striped Up Cropped Jumpsuit
  3. Palm of My Hand Maxi Dress
  4. Drop the Line Pants

 What I’m doing this weekend:

We did not make it to Chuckecheese last weekend too much to do.  This weekend anything is possible.  School is closing off this week and I know they need to de-stress after exams so I’ll do my best to bring some fun their way. 🙂 I’ll be sure to have some fun myself.

What I’m looking forward to the next month:

We usually have camp for the kids every year we do craft activities and carry the kids on outings and try to create an atmosphere full of fun and creativity.  I’ll be sure to take pictures of the various craft activities.

 What else is new?

I’m not sharing this to brag but these really mean a lot to me. I was nominated for two new awards this week Sunshine Blogger Award and the Unique Blogger Award.   It was my first time receiving them and I still feel so humbled and honoured to be nominated for these.  It really means a lot. Thank you.

Thanks for taking time to read and visit my blog.  That’s a wrap until next Wednesday.  Make the rest of the week a great one! 🙂

What’s Up Wednesdays? #4

Wednesday greetings to you all!  I hope you’re all having a good week so far.  Trinidad and Tobago was on a storm watch for the last few days and the tropical storm “Bret” finally hit us yesterday.

Unfortunately, we did have some reports of persons losing their homes due to landslides.  We had heavy rains and various reports of flooding that caused a lot of families to distress.  There were also reports of no electricity in some parts of the island.

Today for the most part most of the country sunny.  Most of us have returned to work and some of the children returned to schools.   My heart goes out to the families who have been affected by the flooding. I hope that the relevant authorities give them the necessary help they need in the fastest possible time.

So it’s time for me to share what’s been going on so let’s get into it.

What I’m eating this week:

Today for lunch, I had homemade beef lasagna with callaloo and green salad enriched with a few slices of avocado.  Sorry no pictures, I ate all my lunch already.  I’m bowing my head in shame.  I love avocados.  They taste so good and they’re also good for you.  For dinner, we might make some beef empanadas. What are you having for lunch today?

What I’m reminiscing about:

Nothing much today. I am at peace with myself at the moment. Thank God for that.   🙂

What I’m loving:

My friend Cheila over at Pink for Days did a piece on me last week Thursday that totally made my day. It was part of her Perfect Party Series and I was featured.  She is really a sweet and kind person and I’m glad I met her.  If you like you can check it out Perfect Party Series #10 Cherylene.  Thank you, Cheila!

 What I’ve been up to:

I’ve been posting more than usual for the past few days sometimes two or three posts for the day.  It feels like I have so much to say sometimes then there are days when I can only do one piece.

Writing and blogging are definitely a passion and the more I get into it the more I enjoy it.  I’m glad I took the leap and did it.  The support and encouragement I have received from my family and the blogging community especially has been more than I expected.  Thank you! 🙂

What I’m dreading:

Rainy Season! It’s the start of the rainy season here.  I love the rain don’t get me wrong but when you have things to do and places to go it could be a bit of a bother. I have some painting in and around the house that I hope to start in the next few weeks so we’ll see how that goes.

What I’m working on:

My family and I are overdue for a change of scenery so I’m working on planning a vacation getaway for us.  Will let you guys know what I come up with.  I’ll definitely be taking pictures of that adventure to share with you. 🙂

What I’m excited about:

Vacation, vacation, vacation!!!!  Did someone say vacation? I love packing my suitcase to leave for my new destination.  The kids love it too and nothing gets them more excited than the thought of going on an aeroplane.  🙂

What I’m watching:

So I finally started Orphan Black Season 1.  The show grips you from the beginning and doesn’t take long to get into the drama as the plot thickens. There is a lot going on so you need to stay seated or pause the show because you could miss something. Will I continue watching the series?  Definitely, I need to see where this goes.  Thank you Angela. 🙂

Who/ What I’m listening to:

Shawn Mendez – Stitches and Treat You Better . I love those songs!!!

What I’m wearing:

I’ve made an executive decision to change this heading to “Let’s go shopping!” instead hope that’s okay.  Where should we go? I don’t know where to start. Here are a few pictures of some stuff I liked online.

The first picture is from Lulu Fashion Lounge.  The second and third are from Dress Up.   Please note, that I have not purchased anything from these stores but I love some of the clothes they had on offer.  If you’ve purchased from them let me know your thoughts.  I personally love these looks and would definitely wear all of these.  Do you have an online favourite place to buy your clothes, if you shop online?

What I’m doing this weekend:

This weekend is a lot like last weekend so there will be chores in the forecast. The kids have lessons so maybe to help them relax this weekend we could go and do something fun like go to the beach or maybe take them to Chuckecheese! I know they will love that. We’ll see how the weekend goes.

What I’m looking forward to the next month:

The closure of schools and the start of vacation.

What else is new?

I created a new segment called Music Reflection Mondays where I highlight music from my childhood to date that has helped me through the various periods in my life. Feel free to take a look. I feel very good about this new addition.  Hope you enjoy it too.  Look out for it every Monday.

Thanks for taking time to read and visit my blog.  That’s all for now.  Make the rest of the week a great one.

See you soon.

Stretch Yourself

Thank you Lord for another day.  Thank you for another opportunity to do better and be better. Thank you for all YOU have done, are doing and will do in our lives. Give us the strength and courage to stretch ourselves so that we can become the individuals we were meant to be. Amen!

That was my prayer for us. Many times we go through life and some of us tend to limit ourselves and our experiences because we are afraid.  I know what that is like because it used to keep me stuck.   Afraid of failure, afraid of the unknown, afraid of what others might say and afraid of change.

How many experiences, opportunities, potential relationships and friendships did you allow yourself to miss out on because you were afraid? Being afraid or ‘fearful’ is not all bad because this is our brain’s way of protecting us from anything or anyone it feels threatened by.

However, although the brain means well this emotion ‘fear’ can also paralyze us in moments when we need to act.  It can limit us and cause us to miss out on potentially good and positive experiences because we’ve become stuck in this emotional state where we start seeing everyone and everything as a potential threat.

This type of existence hinders our learning because we would typically avoid trying new things. Learning is a part of ‘living’ and if you choose to avoid new experiences, new opportunities and new things then you deny yourself the opportunity to widen your knowledge and your experiences therefore limiting your learning.

Today I want to encourage you to put your fear aside and stretch yourself.  Let’s look at some of the best case/ worse case scenarios of stretching yourself:

  1. Try something new it could be a new food, new sport, new activity (dancing, cooking class or a defense class) anything you build up the courage to try – either you’ll like it or you won’t and that’s okay.  Don’t be discouraged just try something else.  This is an opportunity for you to grow and learn more about yourself.  You’ll learn some likes and dislikes you didn’t know about – so go into it with an open mind.
  2. Open up to the possibility of sharing your life with others. Maybe you’ll meet someone who will become your best friend, lover, or future spouse only time will tell. Maybe you’ll just be friends or maybe you’ll learn that not everyone that smiles with you is your friend. Either way there is an opportunity to learn something about others as well as yourself.
  3. Change is good and is sometimes necessary for betterment to take place.  It is good to change-up our routine sometimes and create new ones. This could be as simple as taking a different route to work or home; . It could even be eating whole wheat bread instead of white bread, adding a fruit and vegetables to our daily meal plan.  This will help to foster greater flexibility and adaptability in your life.  Change can be good for you so rather than run from it sometimes based on the potential benefits and lessons to be learnt we should embrace it.
  4. The unknown or future is just that because no one knows what the future holds.    Hiding or shutting ourselves away from others and not participating in life does not help prepare us for the future if nothing else it can put us at a disadvantage. We should choose to live, love, learn and grow each and everyday and trust that our plans will workout in our favour when that time comes.

Stretch yourself, stretch your understanding, stretch your experiences, stretch your opportunities, stretch your relationships, stretch your body, mind and spirit. With each day that goes by understand that the only thing keeping you back is YOU.

Don’t let fear limit your possibilities for growth, wisdom and understanding.

Just take it one day at a time. 🙂
