What is true wealth?

“I wish my house was bigger.  It is just too small.” said Sam.

“Well, I wish I had a bigger swimming pool.” said Brian.

“I wish we had more money.” said Adam.

“You rich kids have life so easy.  You live in the best part of town.  You go to the best private school money can buy.  You’ll probably never have to work for your bread and butter as long as you live and yet you sit and complain.” said George.

George had only lived in the town a few months. He was a new member of the elite group he was criticizing.  He was disgusted by their greed and lack of humility.   George’s family was not always wealthy and they worked very hard to acquire the wealth they now enjoy.

George was humble, kind, thoughtful and more than anything he was grateful for the blessings his family now enjoyed.  He remembers when they did not have food to eat.  When his parents could not pay the bills and how difficult things were.  He is glad that he had those experiences because they remind him not to be wasteful and ungrateful.

Adam, Brian and Sam had never had anyone speak to them like that before.  George hit a nerve, so much so that Sam and Brian made efforts to correct their attitude and behaviour.  The three boys became very good friends.

Adam however, was set in his ways and distanced himself from the group. As years went by, the three boys grew into men and joined their family businesses into successful enterprises that not only benefited themselves but others.  They were all happy and had beautiful families to share their success with.

Adam also grew up to be successful as well. However, unlike the others he did not have a family to share his success with.   He had acquired all the wealth he had dreamed of.  Unfortunately, he could not find love because he was convinced that everyone was after his money so he did not get close to anyone.

He eventually died of a heart attack.  All the riches he had acquired could not be taken with him in death.  His only legacy would be the enormous mansion he built for himself.

George, Sam and Brian to this day would always tell their kids,

“Money is just a medium you use to buy things.  Never let it define you.  Always let your words and actions define who you are.  When the money is gone all we have is each other. ”

This is only temporary

via Daily Prompt: Temporary

“This is only temporary”, said the unemployed mother

To her hungry son and frail daughter

As she gives them the last of the bread

And a half cup of water

…………………………………………………………………..

“This is only temporary”, she says to the landlord

Who after much consideration

Decided not to add to the frustration

And now provides free accommodation

……………………………………………………….

“I have an interview tomorrow,”  says the mother with a smile

As she tries to mask her sorrow inside

She was a woman once filled with pride

Replaying her situation sometimes

Give her thoughts of suicide

……………………………………………………………………………………

As the landlord leaves, the mother rolls up her sleeves

Fighting the urge to quit

She decides to bruise her knees a bit

Holding back her tears, she kneels to pray about her fears

……………………………………………………………………..

“Dear Lord, do not leave me

Please deliver me from this misery

I understand that this is only temporary.”

……………………………………………………………………………

She woke up the next day

All her fears had been taken away

Now filled with purpose,

She was focused

She aced the interview

And learned to humble herself too

Within no time she was back on her feet

And oh how the victory was sweet.

Don’t let your PAIN hinder your GROWTH

Everything happens for a reason both the good and the bad. Some people come into your life to build you up while others try to break you down.  Every encounter has a purpose ultimately it is up to you to use it to make you better, stronger and wiser.

How many of you can say that you’ve never been hurt emotionally, physically or psychologically by another human being?  I’ve been hurt and I don’t feel bad acknowledging this because even Jesus had his share of hurt, pain and disappointments.

How many of you can say that when you were hurt that it did not negatively affect you?   Whenever, I feel hurt sometimes it affects my mood, my appetite and even my interactions with others. The fact is, we all react to pain differently but we all react nonetheless.

PAIN is a part of life.  There is no way we would be able to go through this life and have everything and everyone in our lives be perfect 24/7.  It is unrealistic because life itself is unpredictable.  We have to learn to handle our pain and emotions in a manner that does not leave us feeling defeated, helpless and broken.

The circumstance may have labelled you the “victim” but you can determine if you accept or reject that label. Take a note of the following, DON’T LET YOUR PAIN…

  1. STEAL YOUR FUTURE.
  2. HOLD YOU BACK IN LIFE.
  3. PARALYZE YOU.
  4. KEEP YOU STUCK.
  5. FEED YOU EXCUSES FOR STAYING WHERE YOU ARE.
  6. BLIND YOU FROM YOUR TRUTH.
  7. DENY YOU JOY AND HAPPINESS.
  8. SHUT THE PEOPLE OUT WHO REALLY LOVE AND CARE FOR YOU.
  9. SMOTHER YOU ANYMORE.
  10. CONTROL YOUR LIFE.

Some facts I thought you should know:

  1. YOU ARE NOT PERFECT AND THAT’S OKAY. NO ONE IS!
  2. YOU ARE MORE THAN YOUR CIRCUMSTANCE – SO DON’T JUST SIT BACK AND ACCEPT THAT’S HOW IT IS.
  3. YOUR FUTURE IS ULTIMATELY UP TO YOU.
  4. USE THE PAIN TO YOUR ADVANTAGE – LEARN FROM IT – GROW WISER AND STRONGER.
  5. PAIN IS NOT OUR WEAKNESS. IT JUST MEANS WE ARE HUMAN.
  6. DON’T GIVE UP.

Time for the healing to begin. Find your purpose.  You were not put on this earth to be mediocre and unhappy.  You have a purpose and you have to find it.  Don’t let your pain stop your growth or keep you stuck in a rot.

Over the years with every situation I realized there was a lesson to be learnt. Not only about the people involved in it but about myself as well.  Ask yourself what is the ‘lesson’ to be learnt from this experience?  What good can you take from these lessons? Find it, so you can move forward.

You’ve made it this far!
