Will You Trust God?

Pleasant greetings to each of you.  Heavenly Father, as I prepare to write this post give me the right words to deliver this so that it impacts all those You intend it for. May it open our eyes, minds, hearts and spirits as to what is needed of and from us so that we may experience the changes we’ve been praying for. In Jesus name, amen.

We often hear believers in Jesus Christ say, “You just have to trust God.” I say it all the time on my blog and even in my everyday life.  However, it occurred to me just now, that this word “trust” is often easier said than done.  Just look at how difficult it is for some of us to apply it to our everyday lives and relationships. It’s no wonder so many people find it hard to trust in someone or something they cannot see.

Thankfully, I have learnt to trust God more and more over the years but it was not easy.  After many life lessons, stumbles, prayers and perseverance my breakthroughs eventually came one by one.  These experiences both the good and bad have helped increase my faith and belief in God.

As I look back, I can say now that those seasons in my life were not meant to be the end of me but rather were there to hopefully push and pull me into my own awareness and relationship with God.  I am thankful that I endured and that God gave me the strength to persevere so that I could overcome them.

My friends, you can learn to do this too. You can develop and strengthen your relationship with God.  You can learn to trust God as you exercise your faith in Him daily. When you do, He will show up in your life and do things that you would have no doubt that ONLY God could have done for you. 🙂

Here are some things that can hinder our development of trust and faith in God:

  • Many of us know of God but have no real relationship with Him.   To develop a relationship with God we need to seek Him daily.  We need to ask Him to intervene in our life and work on our behalf for the things we so tirelessly try to fix and go after ourselves.  Then, allow Him to do His thing.
  • Many of us are caught up in religion when our PRIMARY FOCUS should be solely on GODWho He is? What He stands for?  What are His expectations of us? How can we become what He needs us to be? All of these are the questions we should be asking and seeking the answers for.
  • Many of us are walking around not receiving the breakthroughs we need in our lives because we are ignorant to what we truly need to be successful.  We need Jesus Christ.  We need to read and meditate on the Word of God.  We need the wisdom that the word of God provides if we want to be truly successful in life.
  • Many of us want more out of life but are not willing to give up some things or some negative people to grow into who we are meant to be.
  • Many of us want to be successful but are not willing to do the work. Hence some of us sit, complain and constantly compare rather than aggressively going after what we claim to want.
  • Many of us lack patience. God’s timing and our ‘right now attitude’ will always clash. As a result, we feel frustrated and at times angry with ourselves and sometimes God.
  • Many of us have grown dependent on the church or a particular individual (religious leader) for our deliverance when the truth and the fact is ALL we need Jesus Christ.  The purpose of the church and a religious leader is to educate us about the word of God.  It is our responsibility to build and nurture our own individual relationships with God. It is not the responsibility of the church or the pastor.  We need to take control of our own relationships with God through Jesus Christ and not rely on any institution or individual. Their role is to guide but we have to do the work.

God wants us to diligently seek Him.  God wants us to desire Him more than the things of this world. God wants to help us in our everyday affairs be it our finances, relationships, marriages, parenting, workplace or our health concerns but he won’t force Himself into them. We must invite Him to take control and let Him do it His way.

If we have no expectation of God then we have no reason to trust Him.  Expectation will build our faith, faith will develop our trust and all three can deliver our miracle.

Our faith and trust in God will grow as:

We choose to trust Him even when everyone else has walked away.

We choose to trust Him even when we are unclear or uncertain of our next step.

We choose to trust Him even when people think we are crazy.

We choose to trust Him even when we don’t understand.

We choose to trust Him even when things look a mess?

We choose to trust Him even when it hurts?

Friends, if we can do this, God will DO for us what we could not do for ourselves.  He would show us and all the doubters that He is Lord.  He would show us that no matter what our situations may look like He is in control.

Keep God at the center of your life and everything else will fall into place.

FAITH is like a muscle

Thank you Lord for this new day.  Thank you for another opportunity to share, encourage and enlighten someone today.  Help me deliver this message in a way that reaches the person or people You need it to reach.  May it bless me and ALL who read it. In Jesus name, amen!

What is faith?

Faith is a gift from God.  It is that unseen feeling that can be classified as trust or confidence that allows the impossible to become possible.  Faith forces you to look beyond your circumstance and into your possibility.

clouds-2709662__340

Is faith just for a chosen few?

No! In the Bible (Romans 12:3) to be exact, it is written, “God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith.”    You see, according to the Word, we’ve ALL been given faith as a gift from God.  However, although we all have faith not all of us choose to activate it.

How do we activate and strengthen our faith?

Here are some tips on how to activate and strengthen our faith:

1. We activate our faith through prayer.

2. We activate our faith by reading the Word daily.

3. We activate our faith through worship.

4. We activate our faith when we refuse to be guided and locked into our own understanding.

5. We activate our faith by looking not at our circumstances but to God.

6. We activate our faith by speaking positivity into a negative situation.

6. We activate our faith when we let go of our fears.

7. We activate our faith when we place our trust in God.

8. We activate our faith when we don’t limit or base our victory solely on what our eyes can see or what we hear with our ears.

9. We activate our faith by believing in God’s ability and His word with all our hearts and minds that He can do ALL for us that we cannot do for ourselves.

10. We activate our faith by starving our doubts.

11. We activate our faith by not allowing negative people to influence our thoughts.

12. We activate our faith by just believing.

I heard a pastor on television this morning say, “Faith is like a muscle.”  I agree totally with him on that statement, the reality is, if we don’t use or strengthen our muscles they won’t work the way they’re supposed to.  It’s the same principle with our faith, if we don’t exercise it or use it we won’t strengthen it or develop it.

In the bible, it is also written, Because of your unbelief; for assuredly, I say to you, if you have faith as a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you.” (Matthew 12:20) NKJV

If we desire great faith and things in our lives to change or improve then we need to activate our faith, develop our faith and sustain our faith.   We have to do the work!  We have to believe and trust God like never before.  We have to read the Word and ask God to guide us and strengthen us.

As you go out into the world, what are you going to challenging your faith for today?  Healing for your mind, body and spirit; restoration of your finances; healing for a loved one; promotion on the job; maybe it’s employment; or a home. Whatever the desire is on your heart use your faith to bring it to reality.

Activate your faith muscle, feed it and nurture it and it will take you to a whole other level in your life. 🙂

Be blessed.

Run Your Own Race

start-1590051__340

Life is often viewed as a race and I think that’s because we’re always looking at how well those around us seem to be doing when compared to us.  When we do this, we often neglect the beauty and the blessings going on within our own lives that we should be grateful for.

The truth is, how well we do in our own race called life is dependent on how well we handle the challenges and the lessons along the way.

Now ask yourself this:

  • How high am I prepared to jump over my hurdles to get to my destination?
  • How badly do I want to see my dreams come through?
  • What or who am I prepared to let go of to move forward into my destiny?

Based on your answers to those questions.  Here are some things we would need to do to start running our own races more effectively.

1. Seek to align our lives with the word of God. When we seek God’s word and try to apply it to our lives amazing things happen. We experience improvement in our relationships, business, workplace, our kids, our health, our thinking and behaviour as well as our finances.  God’s word provides guidance, understanding, breakthroughs, wisdom and peace.

2. Take control of our thoughts. We can do this if we stop worrying about the race ahead of us and just tackle it one hurdle at a time.

3. Focus on the race in front of you. Stop focusing on the race the other runners are running.

4. Magnify our strengths and work on our weaknesses. Stop comparing our race to the race other runners are in.

5. Stop complaining. Recognize that each race is different just as each runner is different. Each runner and race has its own challenges so count your blessings.

6. Recognize and understand that our success or failure in our race is based on the reconditioning of our mind. We have to set a right attitude, build and use a vocabulary that is full of positivity.

7. Recognize that what we choose to put our trust and faith in affects our outcome.

8. Choose to see the beauty and opportunity in it rather than the obstacles.

9. Learn to ignore and distance ourselves from negative people. Don’t allow their noise to distract or discourage you.

10. Lastly, recognizing that falling from time to time is part of the process and is therefore normal.  Remember, the real winners at the end of the race would be those individuals who got back up and kept running till the very end.

No matter what your race track in life looks like, trust that God is in control. Understand that all you need to do is tap into His strength and not your own to finish the race.

Like a race car on the track when it stops for the pit crew to make sure everything is in order.   We have a pit crew there for us also. God the Father, Jesus Christ His Son and the Holy Spirit. We’re not alone in our race although it may sometimes feel like that.

action-1867014__340

God is always there cheering us on every step of the way. We have to merely ask for His intervention and hand control of the steering wheel of our lives over to Him.

We want God to just get us to the finish line without having to stop, learn, fight or overcome anything.  God loves us far too much for that.  He wants us to grow and overcome our weaknesses.  He will hold our hand while we learn, lift us up when we fall but we have to still do some of the work.

So run your own race and don’t focus on anyone else. Trust your heavenly pit crew to see you through.  God wants to help us in every area of our lives but we have to ask for His help which is the easy part.   The challenge comes when we have to let go of the steering wheel of our lives and sit back.  When we learn this, something amazing happens – we see life in a whole new way.

track-meet-79602__340

So trust Him to see you through to the end. As you run your race and I run mine let us make every effort to learn, grow and enjoy the good that is in our lives. When the challenges come just say,” Lord, I know you got this!

Have an amazing weekend! 🙂

Health and Wellness Fridays: Benefits of Forgiveness

Welcome back to Health and Wellness Fridays! Today we’re going to be looking at the health and wellness benefits of forgiveness.

forgiveness-1767432__340

What is forgiveness?

Forgiveness, is the action or process of verbally and emotionally releasing yourself or someone from a wrong that was committed.  It compels us to ‘let go’ of what was and make a conscious decision to move forward.

Why is forgiveness important?

Let’s look at this from a biblical standpoint.  Here are two verses that stress the importance of forgiveness:

  • Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord has forgave you. (Colossians 3:13)
  • For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive you your sins.  (Matthew 6: 14-15)

What can unforgiveness lead to?

From personal experience, unforgiveness can eat you up from the inside out. It can also promote the following side effects:

  • Feelings of anger and agitation especially whenever the guilty party is in your presence.
  • Have you in a state of emotional bitterness.
  • Leave you feeling upset with the world.
  • Steals your joy and your ability to truly enjoy your life.
  • Increase blood pressure.
  • Increase stress levels.
  • Puts a strain on your heart and mind.
  • Shorten your life span. The constant stressing out  and anger has the potential to trigger other aliments in your body which can make you sick.

Some benefits of forgiveness include:

The truth is, the act that brought us to this place of unforgiveness was terrible and unfortunate.  However, the place of existence that it keeps us in if we let it, is much worse.

The message today, is to start the healing process within yourself – no amount of veggie smoothies or lemon water can remove the bitterness trapped in our hearts.  If true health and wellness is what you’re looking for – start from within that secret place.

Once you have done this difficult and yet so simple act, I believe your life will improve. Your health would improve along with the other areas of your life that unforgiveness has placed a barrier of progress on.

My prayer:

Thank you heavenly Father for Your forgiveness and mercy towards our transgressions against You and our fellow man.  Thank you for loving us through our stubbornness and ignorance.  Thank you that we have life today and another opportunity to make things right within ourselves, the person who may have hurt us and the persons whom we may have hurt along the way.  I trust that as we choose to forgive and let go of ALL the hurt and pain that we held close to our hearts that we will see and feel Your healing touch in our mind, body and spirit. We receive this victory over unforgiveness. In Jesus name, amen!

Thank you for making this blog one of your stops on this journey called life.

Have a wonderful weekend.

Never Say Never

Obstacles and challenges come part and parcel with being alive.  I doubt very much that there is anyone on this earth that has great days every single day, free from challenges, obstacles or loss.

never-lost-hope-2636197__340

However, there are a few people out there who have learnt and continue to learn the importance of not magnifying their problems by the words they use to describe them.  The key this lies not only our attitudes to our problems but our choice of words.

Some things we might typically say when all seems lost include:

“This debt is just so huge. It would take forever to get out of this.”

“I will never get well.”

I am such a failure.”

I never do anything right.”

“I will never get out of this.”

The statements above give the challenges we’re facing strength and magnify them even more.  When we speak in the “I’m already defeated” language, yes, I made that up :), we’re telling ourselves there’s nothing else we can do – so give up. Don’t even waste time searching, exploring, investigating or trying.

When we speak those words over our lives, they become a verbal expression of the ‘I surrender’ action.  The “I’m already defeated” language should be removed from our vocabulary immediately.

What should we do instead?

  1. Get our lives in alignment with God’s word.  I have found that as I read His word (the Bible) and apply it to my life that my problems, fears and concerns don’t control my thoughts anymore.
  2. Seek Him daily through prayer and worship. I have seen and continue to experience breakthroughs in my life so long as I keep God at the center of all I do.  This practice has brought me a sense of peace that was lacking. I used to be overwhelmed and stressed out because of fear and worry.
  3.  Learn to let go and let God do His thing.  We can only do this when we learn to trust Him. The way we trust the bank to have our money accessible when we use the ATM.  The way we trust our credit cards to have the funds we need when we pull them out to make a purchase. We must be confident in His ability and power to deliver us out of the strongholds we’re in.
  4. Thank God every day for the work He is doing behind the scenes to resolve our problems.  In spite of the situation before us, praise Him. In the midst of the confusion and chaos, praise Him.  He will step in and do for us what we could not do for ourselves. I can testify to that.  He proved my doubters wrong. He can do the same for you.
  5. Starve our doubts. We do this when we speak positivity in our situations even when rain is falling.  Even when the devil whispers that we can’t do it, we praise God anyway for the victory He is bringing our way.
  6. Grow and strengthen our faith. Our faith won’t grow if we don’t nurture it daily.  We can do this by trusting and believing with our everything that God is ALL we need. He is everything and there’s NO one or NO thing greater or bigger than Him.
  7. Lastly, don’t just read the word.  Don’t just hear the word. Live it, Breathe it and Feed your spirit and soul with it daily!

There are many stories in the bible where because of the faith of believers God blessed them.  Their trust and faith in God brought them supernatural blessings and favour. They chose to see God as greater than their situations and that was all God needed to work miracles in their lives. Just a few include:

  • Abraham and Sarah who were in their ninety’s when God gave them a son. (Genesis 17)
  • Daniel a boy who slayed the giant Goliath. (1 Samuel 17)
  • Joshua and the gates of Jericho. (Joshua 6)
  • Moses and the Red Sea crossing. (Exodus 14)

Dear friends, we are never too old, too young or too messed up to be used by God to do anything.  Once, we believe and trust in Him He would open all doors for us. Before I go, I leave you with this piece of scripture from Isaiah 41:10 (NKJV)

Fear not, for I am with you; Be not dismayed, for I am your God.  I will strengthen you,

Yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.

Physical Presence vs Emotional Presence

Thank you Lord for this new day.  Thank you for another opportunity to share and be a blessing to someone’s life today.  Help me deliver this message effectively. In Jesus name. Amen.

Many times I’ve gone through life being physically present without being emotionally present.

man-2037255__340

You may ask, what can cause a person to want to separate their emotions from their physical self?

Some situations that could cause someone to want some distance between their physical and emotional self are:

  1. Experiencing constant abuse of any kind be it physical, emotional or sexual.
  2. Experiencing domestic violence.
  3. The pain of losing a loved one is just too much.
  4. Constantly witnessing the abuse of a loved one.
  5. Life just seems to be too difficult.
  6. Constantly trying to please others. Therefore, making their happiness priority over your own happiness.
  7. Fear.

Some benefits of this skill include:

  1. The numbness that it provides.
  2. It disconnects you from the moment or experience. Hence, you don’t have to feel anything.
  3. It provides a feeling of security even in the midst of the chaos.
  4. It gives you a sense of control over you.

However, some drawbacks of this skill when it becomes your way of life include:

  1. You lose more and more of yourself over time.
  2. You get so accustomed to running away emotionally it becomes difficult to stay present.
  3. Running does not heal the hurt but rather conceals it momentarily.
  4. The numbness that it creates in us over time hardens the parts of us that were meant to know and experience love and life.
  5. It does not make you happy it just numbs you.

Over the years I found being physically present and emotionally present for every thing in my life was sometimes too painful and found difficulty coping with them. It took many years but I learnt to control when and where I wanted to feel.  However, as the drawbacks highlighted suggests there was a price.

Like everything in life, there are consequences for everything we do.  Thankfully, with prayer and time, I was able to heal and turn this preservation skill into a powerful tool to ensure my own peace of mind and happiness.

How do we use this skill to our benefit rather our demise?

  1. Talk to someone about what you’re going through.
  2. Some situations require you to leave the environment for the healing in your life, mind and body to take place.
  3. Learn to love yourself again.
  4. Forgive yourself, the person or people who hurt you.
  5. Pray and ask God to help you.
  6. Understand that you CAN and WILL get better but it will take a little time so be PATIENT with yourself.
  7. Remember, God loves you and wants to see you whole again.

My Prayer:

Heavenly Father, as I come before You this morning to give You thanks and praise for all that You are doing not only in my life but all those who read and visit my blog.

I thank you for restoring what was lost.  I thank you for healing the broken places within me.  Thank you for loving me even in my brokenness and imperfections.  Thank you for touching my life and making me whole and one with You.  Thank you that the people who are reading this would be blessed by this post and share it with someone who may really need to read it.

I know Heavenly Father that Your desire is for us to be happy not sad. Healed and not sick and broken.  Filled with Your joy, peace and a sense of security that comes from knowing You. Let us feel Your love washed over and through us as we read and agree that You are our Lord and Saviour.  Only You can fix the areas of our lives we have struggled with for so long. Give us the strength, wisdom, understanding and courage to DO what we have to do. We let go of our fears and ask for Your intervention and deliverance today.  As the song says, prove the doubters wrong. You are mighty and strong. In Jesus Name we pray, Amen!

It’s time to stop running and start living.  Make today better than yesterday.

Thank you for making this blog one of your stops in this journey called life.

Be Still

Hello and welcome back! Glory to God for this new day and opportunity to be better than we were yesterday. May this Tuesday morning find you in good health, peace of mind, body and spirit knowing that you are cared for, loved and special to the Almighty God.

Like any good father or parent, He wants only what is best for us. He wants us to not only experience life but to enjoy it. He wants us to live stress free without worry and concern for all the everyday challenges that come our way.

However, we can only truly enjoy life the way He wants us to by putting our trust and faith solely in Him. Not our jobs, our spouses, our pastors, circumstances or ourselves. The way we trusted our parents to provide all that we needed growing up. The way we trust that the medicine the doctor gave us is going to make us feel better.

The way we visit restaurants trusting that what they have prepared for us is clean and safe to eat. Unlike these previous examples, where we blindly trust these institutions and individuals to do what is best for us. I have learnt that with God as my provider, protector and comforter there are NO limitations as to what He can do for and in me.

So, dear friends as we go about our daily routines let us never forget to trust Him and trust in Him to do ALL that He has promised to do in our lives once we are obedient to His word.

Let us NOT allow the worry of yesterday or the concerns of tomorrow to cause us to miss the blessings that God has already provided for us today.

God knows all of our fears and concerns. He does not need us to be walking around with them in the forefront of our minds all the time. When we do this, we’re too distracted to get the blessings and the messages He is trying to leave us. His word helps us be successful in life.

So, today practice the following:

  • Be still.
  • Trust Him.
  • Trust in Him.
  • Seek Him daily.
  • Let go of all the worry and fear.

The fear and the constant worrying is only going to keep us from focusing on His word. Let us devote time to Him daily so that He can equip us with ALL that we need to know to overcome the obstacles in our lives.
