Music Reflections Mondays #23 – Reminiscing

Welcome back to Music Reflection Mondays! Hope your weekend was delightful and that your Monday was a pleasant one.

Over the weekend I stumbled across some music that I used to listen to not so long ago and it just took me back.  It’s been stuck in my head probably because I’m just playing it repeatedly in my car. 🙂

Do we share any favourites? I’ve been extra busy lately so I’ve been spending more time than I would like driving so to relax and not worry about all that I have to do I turn to the music and it truly helps.

Sure music won’t make our issues disappear but music can create some space in our minds that our stress and constant worrying can often dominate finally granting  us some ‘ME’ time.

Music is like the reset or refresh button for life.  When the going gets tough, get the music flowing. 🙂

Music Reflection Mondays #22 – Relaxation Tips

Welcome back to Music Reflection Mondays!  I hope all is well with each of you.

We all know Monday is the start of the work week and for many it could be a very taxing day.  The good news is, at the end of it all we have an opportunity to unwind, clear our minds from the all the stress and issues of the day.  It’s almost like pressing the reset button to refresh your mind. 🙂

Pondering on everything that went wrong during the day would only further stress you out and could even trigger a headache maybe even loss of appetite.  We don’t want that! How we go about releasing that tension and clearing a path in our minds so we can actually de-stress and start tomorrow with fresh eyes and a cool and clear mind is critical.

There are many things you can do but not everything will work for everyone and some techniques are more effective on some people than others.  Some relaxation tips include:

  • Long bath with soothing music
  • Listen to music on your way home
  • Exercise while listening to music
  • Deep tissue massage
  • Art therapy – getting in touch with your creative side can do wonders for relieving stress and increasing your happiness.
  • Dancing
  • Aromatherapy
  • Yoga
  • Deep slow breaths
  • A visit to the spa for some pampering 🙂
  • Getting adequate sleep is crucial
  • Talk about what’s troubling you – it’s healthier for you to share your thoughts and feelings than to have it bottled up inside.  If you don’t the pressure will continue to build until your mind and body can’t take it anymore and negatively releases it. I pity the poor soul who walks into that hurricane.

Try the different options until you find something that works for you.  It is easy to say “leave work at work” but when stuff happens that leaves you emotionally charged long after work it is easier said than done.

I have found that getting my mind and body into the music I’m listening to helps me clear my mind and it works for non-work related issues as well.  I sing along and that takes my mind off whatever is bothering me. A long shower, an occasional spa visit, aromatherapy,  a good night’s sleep and talking to someone can make a big difference in how you feel.

What’s Up Wednesday #14

Hello and welcome back to What’s Up Wednesdays!

Always a pleasure to have you guys drop by, share your thoughts and comments.  This week I have a mouthful but I’ll try to keep it short and sweet because I still have some packing and organizing to do before my flight in the morning.

Let’s get into what I’ve been up to. 🙂

What I’m eating this week:

Today I actually skipped breakfast and as a result I ended up having KFC for lunch. It was finger licking good. 🙂 For dinner I had BBQ chicken with fries and macaroni salad.

What I’m reminiscing about: 


The lovely stay I had at both the Salybia Nature Resort and Spa and the Radisson Hotel here in Trinidad.

What I’m loving:

I’m heading off to my final getaway tomorrow. Where you ask? Miami 🙂 a special treat just for me.

What I’ve been up to:

Cleaning, repacking and lots and lots of cleaning.  The tiling work at home is incomplete but I believe the guys will get it done.  I just want to see this project completed before the start of school next week.  I had no idea that redoing the floor would have been so messy.

What I’m dreading:

Honestly, coming back from my trip and the tiling is not completed. Deep, slow breaths.  I praying and trusting God that everything will work out.

What I’m working on:

I finished packing my suitcase so it’s just to get to bed and spend the last few hours I have left leaving some voice notes for the kids although I plan to call them.  I know my youngest son would love that. 🙂

What I’m excited about:

Getting this me time! I’m really excited because it is actually few and far in between when I get to have an outgoing or a trip just for me without the kids.    Can you believe that I miss them already and I have not even left yet?  🙁  I need this time away though so I’m sure I’ll get over it. 🙂

What I’m watching:

Nothing in particular. Mostly cartoons with the kids this week. Orphan Black probably has been watching me more than I have been watching it. Just too tired these nights.

Tonight I’m in sleep attire shorts and a spaghetti trap top cotton of course. It’s all about comfort.

My birthday and it’s on September 4th! 🙂

What else is new?

The way I see my living space.  Since this tiling project I was forced to empty the space and wow I have a lot of wasted space just hidden by the clutter and junk I convince myself I needed. I look forward to redecorating it.  I’ve already repainted so I excited about that.

Well, it’s time for me to go to bed and get some much needed rest before my flight in the morning. Sorry in advance for my absence guys but this is one opportunity I can’t afford to pass up.  A special thank you to my amazing family for this early birthday gift. Love you all very much. 🙂

What’s Up Wednesdays #11

Pleasant greetings to you all on this Wednesday night.  I’ve been so preoccupied for the last few days that I literally have to stay up and unwind via my blog so that mentally I can get to sleep more peacefully.

This week on What’s Up Wednesdays I’m going to keep it short and sweet. I have just finished packing my suitcase for our relaxation and fun adventure as a family at a resort in Trinidad.  It’s the first time we staying there so we’re all anxious.  I for one I’m tired but I can’t leave you guys without an update.

So please excuse my summarized version.

What I’m eating this week:

For dinner, I kept it really simple and had Chinese food – noodles, chunky vegetables and Chinese style chicken.   Unfortunately, this chef did not prepare my dinner.  I wonder if it would have tasted better if he did. 🙂

What I’m reminiscing about: 

At the moment, nothing!  I’m too focused on the future. 🙂

What I’m loving:

I’m happy to say that roughly 60% of my home improvement projects have been completed thus far. The contractors we hired came highly recommended and I’m pleased to say they did not disappoint and were worth every penny. I’m praying for similar results from the next contractor who should hopefully be starting when I get back.  Keeping my fingers crossed and saying my prayers. 🙂

What I’ve been up to:

Being the appointed Project Manager of my home improvement project I’ve been busy liaising, negotiating and supervising contractors to make sure the different projects got completed on time and to a high standard.  It had some challenging moments like cleaning up, reorganizing and the noise but that was the extra price we paid for progress. 🙂

What I’m dreading:

This stress induced acne.  Yes, since all of talk of the impending projects I noticed my skin started flaring up which is not the norm for me.  I’m taking care of my skin (cleanse, tone and moisturize) and trusting that it would calm down as soon as I do so say a prayer for me.  Thanks in advance. 🙂

What I’m working on:

Seriously, packing my bags and getting out of here. 🙂

What I’m excited about:

Getting to mentally and physically unwind. 🙂

What I’m watching:

I’ll be honest with you, the Koala has not moved from the sleeping position in the tree since you saw it last week.  Don’t worry it’s not dead just very tired.  Sorry to report that my television viewing days is at a stand still at the moment.  I literally just run errands, supervise the workmen, tidy my house, eat, bathe and sleep after trying to squeeze in a few posts when I can.

Health and Wellness Fridays: Lifestyle

Welcome back dear friends to Health and Wellness Fridays! 🙂 Thank God we persevered and made it.  After a long, hectic week Fridays just seem to make everything easier.

This week my post is a little different to what I would normally do.  Why you ask?  Well, health and wellness is not just about what we eat but also how we care for and treat our bodies as well.

It is important that we not only nourish our bodies with food but also do things that help care for our bodies.  I’m a firm believer in “prevention is better than cure.”

Here are some things we can do to help care for our bodies outside of eating properly.

Getting a proper night’s rest – did you know that the average adult between the ages of 18 -60 years needs about 7 or more hours of sleep per night?

Get active – it is important to get your body moving so running, dancing, swimming, walking, cardio exercise, cycling, tennis whatever form you choose it is a step in the right direction.

Knowing when to stop and rest – this is sometimes easier said than done at times but the body gives us signs when it is tired and sometimes we ignore them.  It is important that we get proper rest to ensure that we are able to function at our best both mentally and physically.

Get regular check-ups.  We don’t have to wait to become ill to visit our healthcare provider.  Schedule a check-up to make sure that you are truly performing at your best.

Maintain proper oral hygiene. Visit your dentist. Taking care of our teeth would be cheaper that ordering new ones. 🙂

Have your eyes tested to ensure that they are healthy and functioning properly.

Read and research the ingredients of the products you use.   Some of those ingredients found in everyday products research has shown can do more damage than good.  Click here to learn more.

Find healthy forms of relaxation for both the mind and body.  Some people use yoga, meditation, music, others even have a spa day while some take up sports.  Whatever helps you relax and find peace of mind, body and spirit do it.  We all face stressful situations in life some have more than others but not having a healthy way to cope can result in you becoming ill or worse resulting in a nervous breakdown if not addressed and handled properly.

Reduce and end negativity – we sometimes underestimate how toxic negative people and negative thinking can be on our overall well-being.  Take control of your life. Be the pencil and eraser, add what you want and remove what you don’t.

Last but by no means least believe that YOU are worth the investment.

These are just a few of my suggestions.  I know life can be hectic and it is difficult to keep track of everything all the time.  I fall short sometimes but I don’t let it get me down I just get back on the path and keep moving forward and that’s what you should do as well.  Beating ourselves up about what we didn’t do does not make it better.  Instead focus on what you are going to do to make it right.

Our bodies can only give back what we put into it.   If we give it 20% it would give back 20%, if we give it 60% then we get back 60% and so on. Create a balance between what you put into your body and how you care for it externally as well.    The time, effort and resources we invest now may help us in the future by reducing our risks for various types of diseases and illnesses.

Health and Wellness is therefore a lifestyle.  What we choose to do and not do in regards to our health and overall well-being has consequences in both the short-term and the long-term which consequences are you prepared to live with?

It’s Friday!!!!

Friday greetings to you all!

Fridays have special meaning for many of us.  After all, it marks the end of the work week and the start of the weekend unless you’re someone who works on weekends. 🙁

The thing about Fridays is that whether or not you had a productive week, a hectic week, a good week or even procrastinated through the entire week it still brings a sense of joy and closure to the week.

This joy transcends occupation, gender, age, religion, income and even ethnicity.  On a Friday, getting dressed for the last day of the work week brings with it a pep in your step.  Maybe it’s the thought of the after work get together or thoughts of your plans for the weekend or just the thought of walking through those office doors at the end of the day knowing that you have two days for yourself that just put a smile on your face.

Sure we get to come back next week and do it all over again. That’s what makes Fridays so special.  Let’s try not to steer at the clock too much you know this seems to slow it down some how.  I notice when I stop looking at the time it goes much faster.  🙂 We still have our jobs to do and various task to complete but wrapping up at the end of the day would feel so sweet.

Whether you’re going to the club, relaxing with friends and family, getting close to that special someone just knowing that it’s Friday will make everything better.  Whatever you have planned or are planning for later and this weekend have fun and be safe.
