Success Starts with YOU

“Start With You” – every day we wake up let those three words be a reminder to us, that we are the main obstacles standing in our own way.  Of course, there are things outside of us that can hinder our progress but there are often bigger things going on inside of us that keeps pushing us ten steps backwards and they will continue until we address them.

The good news is, we’ve documented our proposed goals and aspirations and safely secured them for quick review from time to time.

However, making the list believe it or not was the easy part.  The changes we want and need in our lives ultimately start with usI’ve learnt over the years that many times when we fall short sometimes it is often due to some type of action or inaction on our part.

The words we’ve written will remain only words until we take action to change and improve the aspects of our lives that have been holding us back.   We have to give meaning and significance to what we say we want and be willing to do the work to see it achieved.

I’ve been standing in my own way for many years and it was only when I addressed certain aspects of my thinking, attitude and the words I spoke over my life did I experience the breakthrough I was praying for.

The saying, “what you put in is what you get out” is very true. We have to align our attitudes, words, thoughts and actions with the pictures we have envisioned for ourselves.

So check yourself each day and ask yourself, “Am I thinking, saying and doing what is needed for me to get the results I claim to want?”  If your answer, is “No or Not really” don’t get discouraged take immediate steps to align those areas that may be holding you back.

For 2018 to be everything we need and more, we need to accept responsibility for ourselves and more importantly be accountable.  Our successes and failures ultimately – start with us!

In closing, I want to declare that 2018 is going to be a year of prosperity, growth, healing and transformation in our lives.  It’s time for us to step up and actively pursue those goals and dreams that we have allowed to elude us for so long.

My question to you is, how bad do you want it?

As always, thank you for making this blog one of your stops in this journey called life. 🙂

The enemy is closer than you think!

Yes, the enemy is closer than you think!

When we use the term enemy, we are generally referring to anyone who is hostile, aggressive or violent to us.  They do not have our well-being at heart.

The enemy however,  is not always external but sometimes the enemy can be found within.  Yes, in our thinking and our words.  The things we tell ourselves in the quiet moments when we’re alone and when no one is listening.  Is no one listening?   Someone is listening.  Someone is always listening to your words and thoughts.  That someone is YOU.

When you sit or stand there steering into your thoughts no one hears more clearly than YOU.  Those positive self-talks do wonders to motivate and cheer you up.  However, it those dark thoughts, those negative thoughts about yourself that I’m here to talk about today.

What we tell ourselves and how we see ourselves is just as powerful if not more powerful than the external person speaking ill things of you.  How so?  Based on what you already believe about yourself, you would be able to write off that person’s negativity without a second thought.

If however, you have already planted seeds of doubt or unworthiness about yourself then what that person says would just be the icing on the cake before you box it up to eat at the self-pity party.

Don’t be your our own worse enemy!  Who knows more about you than YOU.  Who knows your weaknesses, your failures and your insecurities better than YOU.

NOBODY is perfect, nobody.  We all have made and will make mistakes that is just part of life.  It is part of the learning and growing process.  We’re different, I get that and I accept that.  You should too!  The colour of our skin, the colour of our eyes, our body shapes, our hair, our walk even the way we talk is different and that is what makes the world such a beautiful and interesting place.

Some of us are great listeners, some of us are easy on the eyes, some of us know how to command a room with our presence, some of us bring innovation and creativity to the world, some of us are great with people, some of us make great friends, and so on.  Whatever our talents are we all have a place in this world and a contribution to make.

The point is, we all have something to give, something offer, something that makes us special that no one else has.  Let us celebrate WHO we are  and not focus on WHO we’re not.

So going forward, be mindful of the conversations that you have with yourself.  It’s time to go from being your own worse enemy to your biggest cheerleader.

Have a great day and thanks for stopping by.

Breakthrough

Can you feel the tightness in your chest?

It’s so intense it won’t let you rest

The hurt, the pain, the guilt and shame

Enough to drive anyone in insane

……………………………………………………………………

You’ve been through a lot

Most of your life a melting pot

With different contributors along the way

You believed most of what they had to say

And now your happiness seems to just fade away

………………………………………………………………………..

Today is a new day and you’ll listen to what I have to say

This type of existence is diminishing your significance

That self-defeating attitude is drying up your gratitude

Blindly you from the truths you seek

That deep down you are FAR from weak

………………………………………………………………………….

Sure things have been rough

But you have survived them

Because you are TOUGH

It’s time for you to transition

So break free from this self-imposed prison

……………………………………………………………….

With this new-found clarity

May you finally have prosperity

Happiness was never an illusion

You just lost sight of it in the confusion

So is today your breakthrough?

We won’t know until you walk through.

Disappointments are blessings in disguise

I believe that every disappointment has a hidden blessing behind it even though we may not see it at the time.

What do I mean byblessing“? I believe that a blessing can refer to a person or an act that can improve or add value, happiness and joy to someone’s life.   It can be anything from getting a new house; getting a promotion; conceiving or receiving a child; spiritual healing, physical healing; meeting the love of your life;  achieving financial deliverance and so much more based on the needs and value placed on it by the person receiving it.

God knows our heart’s desires. He also knows what is best for us and more importantly when to bless us with the things that we need and want.  I’ve come to learn over the years that my timing and God’s timing are different. I want all of my blessings and I want them now – used to be my attitude and thinking. Patience was a virtue I definitely lacked.

God has a bigger plan for our lives. We all have a special and unique purpose and contribution to make in this world even though we can’t see it now.

However, in order for us to receive the blessings God has for us –  I believe that we have to first undergo some test and learn some lessons along the way, all designed to develop and strengthen us.  Some of the test and lessons are more difficult than others and can come in the form of hardship, disappointments and even tragedy.

In my test, I would admit I was sometimes confused, angry and even disappointed when things didn’t go my way or when relationships failed.

Here are (10) ten lessons that I learnt:

  1. When God puts it in your heart to do something – do it!  Don’t delay and keep putting it off.  You don’t want him to up the antics to get your attention.
  2. Some test and lessons require us to walk away from certain people and things in our lives for us to achieve the things we are destined for.  When God says it’s time to wrap it up you better wrap it up.
  3. Every disappointment, every failure and every heart-break was designed to make us stronger, wiser and more resilient.
  4. Disappointment hurts and it can even leave us feeling a little crushed. It is not however, meant to destroy our hope or wreck our lives.  It is how we respond to these events that can bring us the break-through that we’ve hoped for.
  5. Crying can help bring emotional release but it does not help with the mental turmoil.  Those feelings of unworthiness, self-doubt, self-pity, anger, resentment and frustration can eat you alive. I had to find ways to overcome those feelings in order for me to move forward with my life and that in itself was a test and a lesson.
  6. God knows the things we struggle with even before we do.    He will even create situations to help us overcome them but we have to trust him and persevere.  We must do our part or there will be no growth and I believe we remain stuck in our test until we learn the lesson.
  7. God is a merciful God and he will never give us more than we can bear.   Our test are different and some might even say unfair at times as we compare our lives to others but let’s not compare but instead choose to persevere so our blessings can flow as we continue to grow in mind, body and spirit.
  8. It takes a lot of self talk, prayer, faith, trust and perseverance to go through life in your present existence knowing that although everything is not perfect right now things will get better.
  9. Use disappointment as a stepping stone to propel you into the next level of your journey.
  10. We all have our own test to complete and our own lessons to learn.

What lesson is God trying to teach you in your life now?     What or who is holding you back from becoming who you are meant to be?

I believe we all have the potential to not only overcome the disappointments that we are faced with but also get the hidden blessings that can come out of them – if we choose to view them differently and persevere.

If you are going through a tough period in your life now, know that you are not alone.   Life can be a struggle but not everything in it has to be.  Trust that this too shall pass, look for the lesson, learn from it and God will deliver your blessing.

Time to Heal

I see no heart within your chest

Only pain and the hurt now fill your vest

Your eyes are dark because you cannot rest

Your heart is broken so you are not your best

………………………………………………………..

So angry with the world you slowly lose your soul

So much heart-break and pain

You feel nothing but shame

As you accept all the blame

………………………………………………………………..

Maybe you loved them too much

Maybe your love was not enough

What is clear is that they are no longer here

It gets better with time I swear

……………………………………………………………………….

One day you’ll see the reason

Why they could not last the season

Don’t let real love pass you by

Because you’re too busy asking why

……………………………………………………………………………..

Time for you to heal so you can truly feel

As you peel away the hurt and pain

So light and love could breathe again.

What’s holding you back?

Have you ever felt as though you were destined do more with your life but could never put your finger on it?  I have been there and I know how frustrating and depressing that can be.

Do not be discouraged. I have highlighted eleven things that I believe play a huge role in keeping us stuck in life.

  1. Distractions – refer to all of those things in life that prevent you from seeing and being everything you’re meant to be.
  2. Negativity – will only break you down. This can be internal or external.
  3. Stuck in your comfort zone – take small steps to overcome your fears. Don’t  let fear keep you from learning new things.
  4. Poor Attitude –  our attitudes both positive and negative play an important role in developing and shaping who we are and the quality of our life experiences.  Be mindful of the messages you are sending.
  5. Lacking Gratitude – showing our gratitude to others for all they have done and do for us is good, not only for the soul but our relationships with them.
  6. Lacking Perseverance – perseverance is that drive to see things through no matter what. It is critical to our success without it we tend to give up easily.  We only fail when we stop trying.
  7. Lacking Guidance –  there is no shame in asking for help.  No one has all the answers, when in doubt I suggest prayer.   Ask God to guide you as you look for answers and I believe that he will give you the answers in a way that you will understand.
  8. Unforgiveness – is toxic and unhealthy.  When you choose not to forgive, you are choosing to keep yourself a prisoner to that negative experience.  Forgive that person and set yourself free. It’s not for them but for YOU.
  9. Not knowing your WORTH and LOVING yourself –  If this is broken you have to fix it.  Repair this relationship with yourself.  You are worthy!  You are an amazing person with so much to offer.  You CAN do anything you put your mind to.
  10. Denial – gives us a false picture of what’s really going on.  Take a step back and try to view  your situation as a ‘bystander’ and not a ‘participant’,  the aim here is objectivity. Once you have done this, take the necessary corrective action.
  11. Self-pity – this is a state of mind. This is when we choose to allow negative experiences to lock us into emotions that keep us prisoners of those experiences.  STOP BEING THE VICTIM AND BE THE VICTOR!

The common element in each scenario is YOU.  YOU are ultimately in control.  YOU have the power and say in your life as to what goes and what stays. Remember that!!!

Get behind the driver’s seat and take control of your life today! 🙂
